This is so tricky. My son is 2.5, and when he was 2 he became fascinated with his (female) cousin potty-training. Even though I felt it was too early, I decided to go with it. I got him a potty chair and underwear and offered him the chance to go. We had 19 straight days of dry diapers and using the potty (and only 2 nights that weren't dry)! I thought I'd hit the Kid Lottery! It was amazing, I tell you!
After those 19 days, however, he was done. Just like that. I'd ask if he wanted to go on the potty, "NO!". If he had to go potty, "NO!" I even asked him if he'd just sit on the potty (before bath/bedtime), again he refused. I backed off, totally dropped it. The potty chair is still in it's spot, next to his bathtub, and every once in a while I'll ask if he wants to sit on the potty before bath. He still says no. One day he'll be ready again, but in the meantime, I definitely don't want to turn him off to the whole concept, so I'm just letting it go...and hoping that when the time really does come, it will be as easy for him as those 19 wonderful days!
Good luck!

My son is 2 and he really did not show any readiness...........I just decided that he was smart enough to get the concept....it took several days, but once he actually peed in the potty and received a treat, it was on. He is doing well.

Honestly I had bought my son a toilet seat for him, placed him on it and hoped for the best. It wasn't until he was almost turning 3, that he got the concept that he can go potty like a big boy. I think that's when they're brain is more developed to understand some things. I taught him to sit and it took some time before he learned boys stand up, but he was the one that told me he was ready to be potty trained (in a matter of action). I think it helped that most of his friends at school weren't in diapers anymore. Being a patient parent always helps, cuz in my opinion toddlers are ready when they're ready.
