Is it a sign of teething if your baby has a runny nose and is a little congested, fussy, drooling? ( there is no fever) Can babies start teething at 4 months old?

Yes your little one could be teething. They can cut their first teeth anytime from birth (some even before) up to 12 months. My daughter cut her first two teeth at almost 5 months old. She got a runny nose with some teeth but not with others. The sure sign is if they chew on lots of things - fingers, toys, anything that fits in their mouths. Try a few different teething options to see what your child prefers - try different hardness, shapes or if your child likes the ones you can put in the fridge. A damp facecloth put in the freezer until it is frozen is another good idea for them to chew on. My daughter liked chewing plastic bath toys rather than the teething rings or toys that you can buy.

The nurse practitioner at my gps said that a lot of children have colds and a cough when they are teething because this happened with my daughter.

Most children do cut a new tooth with a cold. And yes a four month old can be teething, some babies have teeth when they are born. My daughter also used to chew her wrists and have a constant runny nose!

Yes. My son got a runny nose every time he teethed and drooled like crazy. His 2 front bottom teeth came in at 4 months. Sometimes babies will get a low grade fever with teething as well. You can give them infant motrin, advil, or tylenol for the pain.
