I found this article on Yahoo! today, and I wanted to know what other moms thought. My son is 2.5. His favorite thing to lie about his a dirty diaper.

That's so true. In the last 12 months my 3.5yr son has learned how to lie. Mostly about pooing in his night nappy, or telling one parent the other said yes to something. then justifying it by saying "Oh I said the wrong thing! Sorry!"

My daughter likes to tell you people pushed or hit her, and she just turned 2 last week. For example, we were gardening the other day and she got a scratch, but I didn't see it until later that night when I bathed her. I said "What happened Gabba?" and she tells me "Shawnie hit me." Shawnie is her friend from day care that she hadn't seen in over 4 days lol. Granted, Shawnie probably did hit her at some point since they fight over toys all the time, so I don't know if she was necessarily lying, or coming up with the first thing that popped in her head.

Kids don't totally grasp the concept of lying until they are 5 to 6 years old, and we have to teach them that what they are doing is Lying. They don't understand that they are doing it, unless we teach and show them what Lying is. To them, it is their mind dreaming and they use their imaginations a lot. So if you ask them they are poopy, of course they are going to tell you yes, or no, to play with you. They are doing it on purpose to piss you off. There are more articles on this. I found some a few months ago and emailed the links to a friend who went off on her 4 year old for lying. The kid had no idea what he had done to make his mom so upset. She sat down and talked to him about it, and he had no clue that he had lied.

I'm about to just tell her she can't use diapers anymore and cut her off cold turkey.

Katherine,
I think my son is the same way. I am going to see if dad can potty train him this summer.

My daughter lies about her dirty diaper too. She's 3 and tells me she didn't poop when she did. She should be potty trained but is very very stubborn!
