Moving to the toddler bed?

Hi there! My daughter was sleeping in a big bed probably around 1 1/2 because she would sleep with her grandmother when she would go over. I bought her big bed at home when she was 22 months, it was a little tough at first because we had to lie down with her until she fell asleep. I also recommend putting the safety railings on each side of the bed. Now shes 3 and she goes to bed alone( sometimes she tries to manipulate me to sleep with her, but i tell her shes a big girl now and i have to put her little sister to sleep! i sometimes do to cuddle with her cause i miss it but she understands when mommy says its enough. All in all, i tried and it worked and she was ready. Every child is different, maybe u can try and u see how it goes, u will know when its time. Good luck !

We just moved our just 2 year old last week. So far so good. We are expecting another one and we wanted the crib to not be "hers" anymore. She freaked a little the first night, and now she likes that she can get out of bed on her own, but overall it has been a smooth transition. Then again, she has always been a good sleeper. I think as long as you are consistant with the bedtime routine anytime that you are ready is fine.

I moved my oldest around 15 months old for two reasons: 1) He was able to climb out and 2) I needed it for his baby brother.
Then for my middle son we moved him into a toddler bed around the same time. I'll probably be doing the same with my youngest around the same age.
It wasn't much of a problem and they loved it! Good Luck!

If your child is not climbing out don't move him/her. I didn't move any of mine until they were almost 3. They didn't climb out I didn't move them. Once you move them bedtime will never be the same again getting them to stay in a toddler bed is very difficult. It is much easier to reason with a 2 1/2-3yr old. Than a 1 1/2 yr old.
Well our son coslept with us until he was about 9-10 months old. He moved into his toddler bed at 15 months of age after he shimmied his way up the bars of his crib and face planted (onto pillows because I was paranoid he would do this) onto the floor.
We set his bed up and because it used his crib mattress the sheet and blanket were the same as he was used to.
We lucked out and we had no issue from the get go. He was very excited about his new bed. The only problem he has was for the first two weeks he kept trying to climb over the safety rail instead of sliding down to near the bottom where it was open to get out.
At nap time, he only gave me trouble getting up to get toys/books a couple of times.
He loves his bed.
Now he's always slept with his door close and we have a baby monitor with receivers on the main floor and our bedroom. He's only recently discovered at 20.5 months of age how to open his door. We just put the gate up at the top of our stairs and close our office door. We know he's just going to come wake us up anyway :)
And I always wake up when I hear him moving around (he runs everywhere and we have hard wood floors).
So go for it if you think he is ready. Just make sure you've figured out what your strategies are for getting out of bed at nap/bed time are (we would put his books up out of reach and remove the coveted toy if we had to) and what to do if your child does not sleep with the door closed and wandering the house could be an issue.

i think we may try it..if it doesn't work out well, then we can always go back to the crib! I think we waited too long with our first. She had a hard time transitioning...I'm hoping this time will be easier! Thanks for all your comments!

I moved my daughter to a toddler bed when she was 19 months because she started climbing out of the crib. My son was nearly 3 when we moved him, but he never climbed out. From my experience, the older they are the better, simply because they understand staying in bed better. God luck to you.

I'm starting next month and she'll be almost 19 months old.. It really depends on your kid I've heard, if you think they are ready, then go ahead.. There is no age set in stone, i'm mostly doing it because I need the crib for her little sister who is outgrowing her basinet.
