My 2 year old likes to throw things

My son is 25 months. He likes to throw EVERYTHING, and I don't know how to get him to stop. I am consistently taking items away from him. It is really embarassing in a restaurant. Any suggestions on how to counteract this behavior?

My son was doing the same thing. I always did a simple little smack on the hand and a no throwing things isn't nice and then when it was nice outside we would go to the park or the back yard and throw a number of different balls that would stay in the garage . So he learned that he could throw his balls OUTSIDE ONLY and he had he other toys and things that stayed inside.
