My son Damian....who will be two in just a few weeks....has recently started to wake during the night and walk down to our bedroom....he's always loved his sleep but over the last few months has been very restless.

We bought him a night light because we thought it might be night terrors etc but its made no difference, if anything it just gives him a better light to be able to see to get up.

He walks down to our bedroom and i take him straight back to his bed and he usually goes back to sleep but some nights he wont go back at all. I'm trying sooooo hard not to let him sleep in our bed because i'v heard to many stories of people having trouble with their little ones sleeping in their bed and trying to get them out is almost immpossible.

He also wakes at around 5am but is still really tired....we've darkened the room out so the sun doesn't shine in but he still gets up early...weird thing is.....he comes downstairs and has his breakfast and bottle and then falls asleep in front of the tv an hour later...How do i get him into a better sleep pattern where he sleeps through the night and morning and only need 1 nap during the day instead of this strange cat nap in the mornings ????????

my lil girl just turned two and has always just went straight to bed by herself and slept through the night. About a month ago... she started crying when i made her lay down and getting up to come lay with me.... just out of the blue. My niece did the same thing aobut this age... maybe it is a stage. it is a lovely battle though

Awww thanks guys!!!! Its nice to know i'm not alone in this situation :) Thanks for the ideas Roxanne. We're going away over the xmas period so i'm hoping he will be so tired from all the attention and running around that we will all get a good night sleep. Thanks again :)

My 3 yr son started doing that when we moved him into a toddler bed at the age of 2 until we got him a softer bed. As soon we changed mattress he sleeps in there all night unless he bad dreams or fell out of bed (which the mattress is laying on the floor so there is not much of a drop)

I had the same problem with my little girl... one minute they are in a cot which is confined and then they have all this freedom. My little girl did really well in her bed for a week and then started being crafty and walking into our room with her blanket over her shoulder and teddy in her arm which was really sweet but i felt a bit suffocated after a while! Alot of people suggested putting the side of her cot back up but i didnt see the point of going backwards as the promblem wasnt her sleeping in the bed or settling down .. i simply put a safety gate on her bedroom door so her whole room was just in effect a massive cot .. I dont think she was ready for all that freedom. I did try placing her back into her bedroom and avoided the gate but it is alot of hard work although it works in the end i prefered the safety gate option anyway tbh my mum used a safety gate on all her kids doors! If he has a bottle before bed maybe having a bottle in the morning is putting him into the sleep mind set so maybe give him a cup or beaker with milk in it?? or maybe give him lively activities to do after breakfast for an hour like maybe encourage him to go with u to collect his clothes for the day or help out on your morning routine even if its fetching his nappy and wet wipes or taking his breakfast dish out to the kitchen ...

I'm having the same problem with my little girl. She is 21 months and waking up every other night for about 3 or 4 hours. Last night she was up from 2 to 5 am. I put her to bed early 7:30 she still takes a nap which I've cut to 1 1/2. but no matter what she doesn't stay in bed. She walks over to my room and I'm struggling with her to stay in bed. Then she is up at 7:30 every morning. I wish I knew what was going on.
