OMG I hated this phase.....just another of many phases!!!!! We immediately put our son in time out or sometimes ignored him (in public the more attention we drew to it the worse it got)...after a few months he stopped....ugh its no fun though! Again its a phase that you have to teach and discipline through! Just don't let her keep doing it or get away with it....in public I would say no then turn away or step back until he was over it.

my 2 year old does that sometimes. just remember she is a toddler and is learning so much new stuff it probably frustrates her. think if you were treated like a toddler, always told no, so much you want to do, but you couldn't. if she is talking try to sympathize with her, say i know your mad because and try to get her to use her words instead of hitting. i simply grab my daughters hand and tell her we don't hit, if you want to tell me why your mad, then i'll talk to you. good luck. just keep your patience and keep enforcing that hitting isn't nice. sometimes i pretend to cry to show her that it hurts me and it hurts my feelings when she hits. i tell her she needs to say sorry and give a hug. its rough. there really is no set in stone way to teach them not to. try time outs.
