My 2yr old has a terrible cough, especially at night. Any natural remedies??

You can use ginger root tea and try eucalyptus oil just a few drops in a steaming cup of water let him breathe the steam it should help and it's natural

My 2 yr old has been congested too, i usually give her some warm tea with honey and lemmon for the cough. it also works for congestion, i also usually use the steam in the bathroom method with running the shower with hot water so she can breath in the steam. You can also give your child a warm bath with some johnson and johnson vicks vapor bath, which you can find at walmart or any other store. and you can also use baby vicks. if its not getting any better take the baby to the dr. to be checked for asthma because even a breathing treatment may help relieve the cough. hope this helps.

A teaspoon of honey in his tea. Works wonders. If he won't drink tea then just honey on a spoon.

If they are over the age of one, give them a teaspoon of honey. Local is the best because it has your local pollens in it and helps build immunity. Also rub vicks vaporub on their feet (then put socks on) and on the back . If they are having labored breathing or have asthma don't put it on the chest. It can make things worse because the menthol is very strong

My son has a really bad cough and cold going in three weeks now and more, doctors so far give him enhancin 228.5, benadryl, and predkid.. with this he's getting diarrhea, the cough and cold is still there I'm getting worried now. What to use

They will diagnose asthma at a younger age I was diagnosed at 4. My son had symptoms at a younger age. The doctors wouldn't do anything about it thou until I had to carry him to the hospital one night b/c he almost died. I changed doctors and they were actually disapointed in the other doctor for not listening to me. The first doctor told me it wasn't heriditary and it is heriditary. Keep presuring the doctor and get an inhalor just to have on hand. I don't give my son his unless just resting a bit doesn't work and it is really hard for him to breathe. I don't want him to become dependant opon it.

Claudia, how old was your daughter when they diagnosed her with asthma? I have severe asthma and have had it all my life and I see my son (2 1/2) having the same symptoms but they wont diagnose him. All the doctors I have seen say they won't diagnose asthma until about 10 years.

Get your bathroom full of steam from your hot shower keep the door shut and sit in there as long as you can,It will break up the crap and help alot.

When my son has a chesty cough I squeeze some pure lemon juice and put 3 teaspoons of honey into warm water & giv it 2 him.Works wonders!Good Luck!

Rub medicated VICKS on his chest or use VICKS VAPOROZER for his room, continue to administer cough and cold medications i used TRIAMINIC over the counter childrens medications read label for proper dosage. Keep child warm in bed at night, check make sure he doesnt have a fever. During the day when he's playing he should wear warm clothing long sleeve sweater or sweatshirt and pants cough may last for couple days or weeks continue medication. Drink lots of fluids orange juice, water. The most important is making sure everyone practices good hygiene such as hand washing.

honey. it REALLY works. My daughter, same thing, Dr. told me to give her honey and i thought it was a crazy idea - turns out it works great. that and a humidifier, cool air mist.

Go with the vicks vapor rub my mom used it on me when I was a baby and It works on my children. Someone once told me to rub some on their feet and put socks on but Im not sure what feet have to do with a cough. lol chammoile tea with honey works wonders to.

My 15 months daughter had suffered from a terrible cold and cough as well recently. It is sad to see her suffering every night, coughing and spluttering... I rubbed vicks vaporub on her chest, feet and toes and put socks when she is sleeping to keep her warm. I gave her a table spoon of honey before she went to sleep and lump sugar mixed with water for her to drink every morning. This helped a lot. You may also test your son for asthma as suggested by Yannine just to make sure he is fine. Hope he will get well soon.

try either a teaspoon of honey by itself or a tablespoon of honey mixed with 1/2 a cup of orange juice to stop the cough. Saline nose drops or a neti pot to clean out the sinuses can prevent phlegm from dripping down his throat when he lays down. Try propping him up instead of laying him flat - that will help with the dripping, too.

You can use pillows so he is sleeping in almost a sitting up possition, and you can make a cough syrup with water honey and lemon juice. These help my son the most.

When my two year old son had a cough at night I had heard that a spoon of honey or karo syrup could calm a cough. I tried it and it seemed to help although it took a few minutes so I held him upright for 15 or so minutes. He also has a VERY large stuffed gorilla that I propped him against at night so he would be in a partially upright position. This helped a lot.

My 2 year old does, too. What I do to help her at night is give her a warm bath, and let the bathroom fill up with steam. That helps loosen whats built up in the chest. Also a humidifier in the bedroom at night. There are several types, my favorite is one that has an area to put vicks in. Put some in there, and it will fill the room with moisture that helps break up the flem, and vicks which works the same way. If it's really really bad you can put cooked onions wrapped in a towel on their chest. Probably not the best way to go, since that does the same thing warm air does (IE the vaporizer)

My son has a cough right now and once I put the cool mist vaporizer on in his room and the baby vick's vaporub after his bath on his chest and back he got much better when sleeping. Two nights now with no coughing at night, but still a bit during the day. I am in Canada and you can't use cold/cough medicine for under 6 years either but you can buy herbal remedies for colds/cough that are supposed to work. I've only used the remedies for teething and they worked well so might be worth a try. Hope he gets better soon.

Hi, Just a suggestion, but have you tried to test your son for asthma? that is one symptom of asthma, coughing at night. If nothing else helps try that. I say that because nothing worked with my daughter, it helped for a little bit but then she would start right back up again. She was diagnosed with asthma. Its controlled now, and she is fine. My daughter had the same cough problem and I used the Vicks waterless vaporizer every night (the strips are sold separately). In addition I rubbed vicks vaporub on her chest and feet and put socks on her at bedtime and during the day. That really worked for her. I could notice the difference after just one night on doing that. Hope it helps your son too.
