My 2 yr old son really needs his hair cut!!! I have taken him 4 times in the past. 2x he did fine and the other 2x he crys and fights it. Last time we tried we came home with half a hair cut. Ive tried myself while trying to distract him. Ive tried in the bath tub and while reading a book. No luck. HELP he REALLY needs it cut. Any suggestions on how I can get him to sit still?

We took our son to a kids salon. The chairs are cars that they sit in and they each have a TV that they can put his favorite TV Show or cartoon on. It does help.

Hi I am a hair stylist, so I have a few ideas for you from major experience. Try to make sure it is after he has had a good nap. TV definately helps we have one at the salon it is a God sent. Other things are if you bring more family members to make him feel more comfortable. even if some one gets theirs done first he can see it. Some salons are different but if you give him a comb or even let him spray something with the water bottle to keep him distracted. I definately agree with the same stylist idea.especially if you find a good one that he is comfortable with. Kids are different sometimes you just need to play it by ear. How he feels. You do not want to force it on him or it will make him not want to go. Hope this helps you in some way.

Is it the same person each time cutting his hair?? If so then I'd try to take him in let him get to know the person and talk to him about what she expects of him and what she needs him to do.  Let him walk in with her and sit in the chair with mom in the waiting area. (If he willl allow that) explaining he is a big boy.  If that doesn't work what about dad taking him to the barber and make it a dads day out.

Thanks. Yep Ive tried the lap and dum dum. No luck :( Well I think I might try when hes sleeping!! Thats a good one Ive never heard of that . LOL I have taken my daughter to a place where they had a TV show going so I may try that with him also.

I just got my son's hair cut. He's 2 1/2. He sat on my lap at the salon and we gave him a dum dum lollipop. I talked about how you lick it and don't bite it and he was so happy licking on the lollipop that he could have cared less that his hair was getting cut. I I couldn't believe how well it worked out because I couldn't get him to sit still for me to cut it at home. They also have salons like Cartoon Cuts that show movies for the kids while they get their hair cut. I was going to give a place like that a try if my regular salon didn't work. I know a lot of people that cut their child's hair while they are asleep!
