At over one year my pedi actually said NOT to give anything unless the temp was over 101 because fever is important to fighting off whatever it is the child has. It is a sign the immune system is working hard and it is actually good. Only temps over 103 can be dangerous although temps between 101 & 103 are uncomfortable and therefor should be treated. For temps between 101 & 103 tylonal or motrin are best and my experiance is you have to find what works best for YOUR child. For instance motrin works for my son for a temp, not tylonal. Although I will do the rotating thing if he has additional symptoms like a sore throat or ear ache because the tylonal works on him for pain. LOTS of fluids, but not sugary stuff or carbonated because they pull away nutrients and since thier not getting a lot of nutrients from foods right now they need what they can get. Fruit juices are good & pedelyte works but really isn't necessary unless they are taking nothing else. Light clothing and as much as rest as possibe (that's the hard one with my son). If the temp is under 100, they are not "really" sick or contagious but I always look at it this way, if thier temp is elevated then thier immune system is at work and so they are more sucectble to catching something (temps with teething are NOT caused from the teething, but because when teething thier immune systems kick into overdrive, the extra drool, exertion from pain, etc. makes them succeptle to viruses) and therefor I try to avoid "germy" places for his sake! My son will run a 99.? temp with his allergies and while sometimes it is hard to keep him home but many a time I've sent him to school or a playdate and he winds up catching something which is worse! After 24 hrs I usually put a call into the Dr. and she usually wants to se him if the temp lasts longer then 2 days or if there are other symptoms that could indicate anything other then a virus.

i think motrin works the best and it last longer than tylenol..if the fever doesnt break after another day..take him to the dr's..he will need antiboitics then..

hey stephanie, dont panic, i know a method that may help u. Dont let the fever go past 100 at any cost ok. u can keep rubbing him with wet towels dipped in cold water if u have eu de colon u can add that to the water, if not, use plain cold water ok.

he may not eat thats ok, u can also try a little honey to change the taste in his mouth.

hope this helps

My first thought is - is your baby teething? Mine has run a fever every time a tooth popped thru the gums and sometimes even when the teeth are just "on the move". He's never gotten above 100 tho. If there's no signs of infection, sneezing, coughing, runny nose, then don't worry too much. It's probably teething. If the fever goes up then call the doc again.

u can only use motrin if your little one is older than 6 months there r suppositorys that work really well if u r willing to try they r called fever all try giving him watered down gatorade the flavor is better popcicles r good cool baths work well give your pedi a call and ask what they want u to do or how long u should wait before u take him in.

You really don't need to worry about a fever until it reaches 103 or lasts more than 3 days. Give him plenty of fluids and some tylenol, advil or motrin to make him more comfortable and wait it out.

Also, try pedialyte pops.

give him pedialyte to help keep him hydrated and keep nutrients. they have the liquid or you can get him a popsicle. Rotate between motrin and tylenol and keep a cool wet rag and wipe him down with it. Let him sleep as much as possible but keep a close eye on him and if it stays for another day I say make him an appointment at your doctors office. Hope that helped and good luck!

Paracetamol will reduce the temp, don't worry about food if he isn't interested clear fluids are the most important at this stage eg water, apple juice, if he wont dring then try little bits of ice. Strip him down to just a nappy but put a cotton blanket on him ( he may have the chills) It is clear he has an infection somewhere make an appointment with your family Dr, if he still has the temp in the next 24 hrs. Temperatures should never go longer than 2 days after that you may get some complications. Just FYI it is completely normal for little ones to have a mild sezure when they have a high temperature don't freak out it doesn't mean anything more serious it is just how their bodies react to the high core temperature.

Not sure how old your lil one is but if your child has a tempof anything up to 38.2 it could be due ot teething but if its anything higher then it something else...could be a bug they pick up from somewhere..when babies or even adults get a fever its your body fighting the bug off by "burning" it...im no mp but when i call nurse online or talk to my doctor the most they suggest is to give panandol and wait...the only time ur lil one needs antibiotics is if they have soem sort of ear, throat or urinary infection (of course u have to see your gp in person to get some sort of result)...

its okk if your child doesnt eat soilds as long as they dribnk lots of fluid to keep hydrated so dont worry too much about them starving themselves...also to help with the comfort of your child doctors and helath nurse always suggest to stripe off their clothes and just have alight cotton blanket over them or just a singlet top....

rotate between motrin and tyenol and strip him down to his diaper. This is what i had to do when my son's temp was 102.0. Have you tried pedialite?
