My son is 13 mos and I am wondering when would be a good time to start transitioning him completely off of a bottle and soley on a sippy. My delema is that we give him a bottle at bed time and I don't know how he will do with not having that for comfort right before bed. Any suggestions would be really helpful :)

I used the cold turkey theory. and it worked a treat :D my son used to have bottles when he woke up and before bed, just before his 2nd birthday. as soon as his birthday came and went he was not having bottles any more. yes ok there was a week of tears and explaining. but he got it, and now he has milk in a cup about an hour before bed and he has a spill-proof cup by his bed with water in. hope i helped :)

i started at 6 months but this is how i did it
start with milk only in bottles and juice only in sippy cups. this works better if your child really likes jucie or doesnt get it as often
if this goes well and your child drinks willing from the sippy after a month take the bottle and replace it with a cup for milk as well
dont use the soft tip sippy cups, essentialy they are the same thing as a bottle

before i started to wean my daughter, i would give her her night time bottle and then keep her up for about half an hour after before rocking her to sleep. after a couple weeks she was used to that, and then i slowly started cutting out her bottles and in about 3 weeks she went from having 5 bottles/day to none! the hardest one for her was the morning one, that we had to deal with a few days of temper tantrums, but once she got over that it was all good. she now loves her sippy cups. she has 2 insulated thermos straw cups that i use during the day because they stay cold for a few hours and she wont drink a full cup at once, and she has a couple regular sippy cups one for morning and one for before bed. good luck, and just dont worry about how old he is, just work at it and he'll be there before you know it! :)

Take it slow. That is what we had to do with my son who is now 2 1/2yrs old. Try not to give it to him one night and see how he reacts. Instead give him a no spill sippy cup. Keep pushing the sippy cup and eventually he won't want the bottle anymore. But the key is to definitely take it slow because you don't want to stress him out. Also choose a sippy cup based around something you know he loves. That is how I chose my son's sippy cup.

when i was getting my son off the bottle i used this sippy cup they have at dollar general its look like a bottle but has a sippy cup nipple it works wonders
