Repetitive Repeating

My son is 2 1/2. His verbal skills have blossomed over the summer and he's now very able to communicate is wants and needs. But he tends to repeat himself over and over and over. He's not nagging or whining but he'll ask for something (a show, a snack, a drink, etc) and even though he can see I'm working on getting it for him, he'll continue asking. Are there any other toddlers out there doing the same? Sometimes I worry about the repetitiveness being a sign of some developmental problem or I wonder if it's just normal for this age. Thanks for all the replies. I think my main concern was that there was something developmentally wrong. Like some obsess compulsive issue. He still does it even when I try these techniques to divert his attention or to expand his vocabulary. So I just take it a moment at a time :o)

Challenge your son to add additional words. He says "milk", you say "cup of milk". He repeats "milk" you can say "cold milk". He says "milk" you say "yummy milk!" It will give him something to think about. He will hear new words and start concept development.

I have often had those questions also. My toddler is also 2 1/2. I have even explained to my daughter, hey mommy's working on it, give me just a sec. but it doesn't seem to help.

It is normal - Words are a new experience and they will try them out as much as possible - even repeating what they just said or asked.....

Yes...my son (also 2 1/2) will ask me over and over where we are going even after I've told him 2 seconds ago. And he does it everyday and everywhere we go. I usually turn the question around and ask him where we are going. Then he will answer me and I tell good job for remembering! He'll still ask but not as frequently.

My kids do it too. I think they are just impatient :) Can you try having him help you get whatever he asked for so that he's actively involved in getting it?
