My son is 18 months old, and hates sitting in his high chair. I let him sit at the table for lunch and dinner today. Lunch went really well, but during dinner he felt out of the chair and was angry because he spilled his milk all over the floor. Is he too young to be out of the high chair? How do I fight the battle?

It does seem like the high chair may have been a bit of a waste. We will keep it for #2 (we would like but no plans yet)! Thank goodness the grandparents bought it! :)

i never used a high chair. booster costs 20 bucks, high chair a hundred. wasn't really an option for me. don't make it a battle to fight. Could just get a booster and say he's a big boy now. they love that. my son just turned 2 and just sits a bit on his knees in a regular chair.

Yep, the booster seat is much more popular here as well. I almost regret bothering to buy a high chair at all it was such a short time that he was in it.
Alternatively you could spread a rug on the floor and have picnics :)

no, it all depends on the child. We have one of those booster seats that straps on a real chair and still has a seatbelt..it cost pennies to buy a new one...ours was a hand me down.

Thank you ladies. Becky, it's nice to know that your child began sitting at the table around this time. I will look into booster seats but haven't yet!

We use a booster seat, one that straps to the chair and has straps to hold him. Our son likes it better then the high chair. Its a simple one from walmart, nothing fancy. When it comes time to eat we ask him to get up at the table and he walks up and we help him into his chair. I think he was around 18 months when we switched seats

How about a booster chair? There are some made now that strap to the chair for added safety.
