My son will be 3 soon and I was trying to make some decisons on presents. I would like to get him some items more on the educational side. He is not in daycare and I want to make sure he is ready for pre-k. I was looking at the leap pads and such, but there are many brands and not sure which is the best. He knows most of his letters, numbers and colors already.

I definately recommend Leap Frog Letter Factory dvd. It may be hard to find (might try Target), but it is well worth it and many of my teacher friends use clps of it in the classroom. I like the educational workbooks to reinforce the basics and I have a large variety so I can pick what skills my son needs to work on. (I have a teaching background and have tutored at Sylvan Learning Center.) Some of these books you can find at the dollar tree. I also use copies of the pages instead of the actual page in case he needs more practice or his brother will need it soon (the books on colors use tons of colored ink, so maybe buy multiple copies of those.)
