What are the best movies for toddlers? do toddlers like movies or is it best to stick to cartoons for toddlers? My 2.5yr old son loves watching cartoons but there always the same ones, i went out and bought him the Finding Nemo movie, he didnt like it?! he just kept asking to watch cartoons. I was wondering if anyone knew of any other movies that might be more suitable for a toddler and something different for a change then the same old cartoons?

My 3 year old loves anything Pixar has produced - of their movies, the Toy Story's still bear the most re-watching. Dreamworks stuff - Shrek, Flushed Away are also favorites. Funny thing is, he also likes some of the old Disney originals: Cinderella, Robin Hood etc. Something about those classic stories & ridiculously catchy tunes, i guess...

My 14 month old daughter doesn't watch a lot of TV, but when she does she'll watch Barney, Sesame Street, In the Night Garden. She likes shows with lots of animals, colours & singing!

okay strictly speaking medical and scientific advice is no TV under two and very limited over. Toddlers like to watch the same thing over and over again, they like the familiarity, so it is often difficult to get them to try something new ( I'm a nana now and I am on the next generation of Thomas Tank engine). You may find the problem with something like Finding Nemo is it is just too long.
Stick with what your child is happy with, he'll progress to something else when he is happy. First time I took my daugter to the cinema ( she had recently been to see a pantomime) she was quite disgusted and told me she hadn't come 'here to watch a video.

I am surprized no one mentioned Land Before Time. My 2.5 (now 3) yr old daughter LOVEs her "Dinosaursies". We get the TV show episodes (didn't even know there was a TV show...) at the library. They are nice because they are 30 min, easier to keep them short. She also loves Wonderpets and Curious George, also 30 minutes each. Pixar movies are the ones whe likes.

My best sugestion is to buy your son the books and movies at the same time and introduce them as a package deal. My daughter loves Miyazaki filkms such as : Princess Monokee, Spirted Away and my personal favorite My Neighbor Totoro. Every child prefersz diffrent things, for instince Mika loves Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Little Einstiens and Ni Hao Ki-lan. I refuse to let her watch spongebob, dora or seasme street. It is all a matter of taste and value. Try musicals such as Annie, Little Shop of Horrors, or my secret fav ( Spice World)!!!

My son loves to watch CARS, Toy Story, Lion King, and Finding Nemo. I have noticed that he didn't like to change up to much, but if I just kept it on and kept trying then he would learn to adapt to a new movie.

My daughter loves Shaun the sheep - a bunch of short claymation episodes - It's mostly just sounds not high pitched like Dora gets, so much nicer for me too. Right now she is very into Madagascar 1 and 2 - too cute to see the 3 year old version of "I like to move it, move it!"

My 3 1/2 yr old son loves Cars, Toy Story 3, all 3 Shrek movies, Finding Nemo (he loves fish), & Monster House. He also loves a lot of the Disney movies like Camp Rock & Star Struck, but he got into them because he has a 10 1/2 yr old sister. Some cartoons that are 1/2 hr episodes also have 1-2 hr movies on DVD that you could also purchase. It's like watching the cartoons he likes, but the last longer & they're not on TV often in movie form. I do have to watch a lot of Phineas & Ferb, though. My son loves that cartoon & could watch it all day. I ask him all the time if he would like to watch a movie & then let him pick one out from the kids' movies I have. I buy a lot of movies for the kids whether they ask for them or not. That is how my son has gotten interested in most of the movies he watches. He would look at the DVDs & grab one that catches his eye & before I know it, Im begging him to pick a different one because he would watch it every day, sometimes 2-3 times a day. I think as your son gets older, he might start finding interest in other cartoons or even movies. Try changing the channel to a different cartoon station & see how that goes. We used to watch QED, but the cartoons were the same everyday, so I changed to Disney. I still think he's a little young for the cartoons on Cartoon Network, but someday.

toy story, dora, pingu, shrek, but also animal channels and music video channels (not more than 1h at time). In the evening she likes lying with us watching movies, so our choices have moved a lot from action to animal featuring style...

At that age my son liked Lady and the Tramp, and Cars. Every kid is different. Some of the movies friends kids love, mine won't watch. Doesn't matter, if he finds one he likes, it will be the only one he wants to watch, just like the cartoons. We switch back and forth between Disney and PBS for variety. I've read that it is normal for them to want to watch the same thing over and over at that age. It's not harmful, just boring for you.

My two and half year old girl likes: Finding Nemo, Monsters, Cars, Tinkerbell, Lilo & Stitch, The Incredibles, Shrek trilogy, Wall-E, Bug's Life, Kung Fu Panda, and probably a bunch more that I'm forgetting.

Don't worry too much. Some kids just don't have the attention span at this age. Soon the kid will only want to watch one movie all the time over and over again every day... sigh. :)

My 3 year old and 22 month old absolutely love the movie Cars. I think my eldest can say all the lines with the characters and sing all the songs by heart...she has loved that movie and will ask for it everytime since we got it for her. Other than that they like The Princess and the Frog, Thomas the Train, Dora the Explorer...pretty much anything with singing and dancing.

My daughter loves Toy Story 1 and 2, still waiting for 3 to come out. She sings and relates to all the songs in Yo Gabba Gabba and adores Elmo's world. Nothing else seems to tickle her fancy right now, besides the Princess and the Frog, she only has a short attention span though and certain Disney Movies still scare her, like the Little Mermaid.

I'm probably a big freak, but I don't allow much TV at all in my house. As a result, my 7-year-old rarely asks to watch. My 15 month-old baby doesn't even know what the TV does.

TV is an imagination killer at best and can cause learning disabilities at worst. Contributes to ADD, agression, etc.

I'd stay away from cartoons AND movies altogether!

anything fast paced works really well with my boys like Cars, toy story, Spongebob,.. mostly animated things because of the characters and they make kids movies with lots of color and action so they keep kids attention better... but I like the idea of when they are asleep taking the few movies they watch over and over and over again away and only giving them a selction of some movies cause as a parent I can only take the spongebob movie so many times in a day before I want to go postale on spongebob and his laugh :) its always good to introduce them to new movies and characters too so they realize there is more out there then just the few they really like and it also helps you get a break from watching the same shows over and over and over again.

just try any movie that suites you child, my son is turning 3 same as yours. when im out of movie for him to watch all i did is download a movie or series like little einsteins, mickey mouse club house wonder pets and he like it so much and he's also learning to sing along with the theme song which is good coz he's learning as the same time. but be careful with some cartoon movies or series that is bad influence for them..
