my daughter is 13 months and isnt walking yet, she holds onto things and does the crab walk and can stand alone, shes taken a few steps and then just goes back to crawling and let me tell you shes a super speedy crawler lol. I am wondering if its a want with her, like she knows she can do it but doesn't want to yet.

My son walked at 10 months and crawled at 5 months and it all felt like it was happening so quick!! He was too impatient i think! My nephews didnt walk till they were 15 months and 13 months and only one of them crawled. They are all different, i know some children who were 15 months and more and were not walking confidently on their own. I dont think there is any right age that they are expected to walk by etc, they all do it in their own time when they are ready and each child is ready at different stages! I dont think people should say things like 'ooh they should be walking/crawling/talking (and so on) by such an such a age...' etc etc. It can put lots of stress on us Mums, worrying about your little ones.

Enjoy it while they are still not too busy 'cos once they do get the hang of it.. look out! Dont worry!

Kristin, every baby is different and it just depends on what motivates her. My daughter started walking at 9 months but that's because she has 2 older brothers and I was really sick and unable to carry her everywhere. Just keep playing with her and loving her and she will be fine, every child has their own schedule for things. Keep the faith. Beth

Don't worry, she's not late at all. every child has his own developmental scheme hence you can do somethings like try to have her hold your finger and walk side by side, don't pull her. Also you can put her favorite toy at a distance to encourage her to walk, this is only if she has the ability, don't overwealm her.

my daughter started walking at 8 1/2 months, but my son didnt start til he was closer to 10 months, and even then he prefered to crawl. all depends on the kid. they give guidelines but it's really up to the individual child. bout the time my daughter was walking, my best friend's kid (who is 4 months older) was just getting good at pulling himself up to stand.

lol they are super speedy!!! Well my 1st son was 18months when he started walking really well by his self. We found out he was having trouble with his ears and needed to get tubes put in his ears.So we did before his 1st birthday and WOW!!!! he was walking talking and non stop.LOL!!!! Now with my 2nd son he started walking around 13months and he couldnt talk well so once again we found our self at the ENT and he had to have tubes put in just like his big brother.

Infants can start walking anytime between 8 and 18 months and this is considered normal. The longer they crawl the better within the normal limits. Crawling is excellent for sensory development, eye tracking and head and spine alignment. Good Luck. My daughters walked (twins) at 11 months and 15 and both are fine and normally developing and I am a therapist.

my niece is 15 months and just started walking. Turns out she was just scared... So my sister and I would grab her favorite toy or book and encourage her to get it. She still isn't that great at walking but is getting a lot better

my son started walking at 8 1/2 months, but he loved jumping and i think this had something to do with his legs being so strong. he would spend hours in his johnny jump-up or in his walker following everyone around the house

I have 3 children and they got progressively slower with walking, 12 months, 14 months and then 15 months. Now my youngest is running everywhere so don't worry, she will do it when she wants to.

February 9, 2010, he was 11 months! But I wouldn't worry about it if your child isn't walking yet, she will eventually, no need to rush her, once she gets going you'll never be able to stop her!

It was close to 16 months before my son started walking and he's now 20 months now. He would cruise and crawl everywhere before that. I worried too as all the other babies we knew were walking but he came around when he was ready. However, we are still struggling with eating as he is still learning to chew and is JUST NOW coming around to eating some bits of table food. He's a real picky eater as well. However, he also had acid reflux as a baby, which has been a possible reason for the problems with eating.

My daughter is now 18 months and runs around everywhere. she started to walk just after her 1st birthday with a few tiny steps. it took about six weeks for her to walk well indoors by her self. it proabably was then another 3 weeks before she was efficient enough outside and then it was really slow steps. she wasabout 15 months when she was walking quite quickly , and now i can put her down and she can keep a good pace whilst out now. just now i have to keep a real eye on her. she can move fast.

I have 3 girls 15,5 and almost 2. my 15 and 5 year olds walked when they were about 10-11 months. The youngest still doesn't walk.... she does as you describe.... she will walk holding on things or with someone holding thier finger, she will stand alone but to take steps she does one or two and down she goes to crawl. I don't know what the deal is she has been checked by 2 doctors and nothing wrong. She just seems to do things on her own time... and not my time. :) I say just be patient she will when she is ready. Then you will be saying sit down.

My son started walking this month and he is 15 months now. What I have observed is that the later children start walking, the better they are at it. My son walks like a pro--no bumps or bruises like some other children he knows. So in the end he did it when he was full ready. I hope you around for the moment she walks--its super cool!

my oldest son started walking at 10 months, my second son started at 8 months... what ever his brother is doing he wants to do too! I do not believe weight is an issue, my first son was a super chunker~ until he started walking and then really slimmed down. I am a teacher in Early Head start. and I have seen children walk at many different ages. Any thing before 18 months is considered normal. If it's near 18 months you can talk to your doctor or have an early intervention therapist evaluate your child to see if he/she needs any additional help. Your daughter is already taking steps so I'm sure she's just waiting to feel more confident in her new skills. It will come. And in a couple months you'll be asking her to slow down :o)

My oldest was walking at 11 months so, she just probably isn't wanting to just yet, she will soon :)

My daughter didn't walk until she was 18 months old. We were a little concerned at the time, but as soon as she started she never looked back. She is now 4 and you would never know how late she walked. She certainly isn't behind the other kids in gross motor co-ordination now!
