How old was your child when you first took them to the beach? My daughter will be two in July. Is that too young?

My daughter was 14 months old when we first took her to the beach. She was petrified of the sand, ocean, and seagulls. She refused to walk on the sand. She freaked out when I carried her to the ocean. She kept pointing at the seagulls, crying, and yelling "Cats! Cats!" However, she loved the hotel pool, and enjoyed it immensely when I dunked her under the water.

My daughter was a year old when i first took her to the beach. She enjoyed herself. She ate a little sand but I made sure I let her know that that's not what people eat and she understood.

That age is just right. My daughter spent her first bday at our river and played on the beach. she had a blast too. just make sure you use good sunscreen like water babies it works great on her and doesnt leave an oily residue either. have fun and post pictures :-)

We took our daughter when she was 9 months. She hated the sand and would scream when any part of her body got one grain of sand on it. We took her again this summer when she was almost two and she loved it! She kept running towards the ocean, covering legs in the sand, and didn't want to get out of the pool. As the other moms said, just make sure to bring an umbrella and sun screen.

we took our daughter at about 8 months old and she loved it. What would make her too young to go???She'd have a ball!!

The first time my son went to the beach he was 10 months old and we were camping, for a week somewhere in New York State.

Just be prepared to be watching your daughter every moment she is near or in the water.
Bring sand toys, sunscreen and hat and have fun!

My first had his first visit and swim at 4months old. He loved it to bits and is now 5 and loves the out doors. All the others have loved the beach and have been at a reasonably early age.

I was living in Hawaii when my son was born so he visited the beach before he was 2 months. Not that he ever left his covered stroller. lol
His first real beach visit was 11 months but he didn't enjoy it a bunch because the sand REALLY bothered him. But now he's fine and love to play in it so who knows. Just make sure you are flexible and prepared to leave if your kiddo is miserable. There's always next time. Bring lots of toys, towels, snacks and baby wipes because we all know how nasty gritty sand feels after you leave the beach. Other than that take your baby into the water, build some castles, have fun!

We take our daughter for the first time when she was 6 months old (not a lot of fun) and then took her when she was 18 months. The second time was a lot of fun and she was so in awe of the ocean and sand!!! We haven't had the opportunity to go back yet, but it's coming soon! Hope you all have a wonderful time!

Thanks for all your input. I'm hoping to take her for her 2nd birthday. She hasn't had any pool experience, but she LOVES bath time. Splashes, doesn't mind the water in her face. I'm looking forward to it. Now to lose those pesky last 5 pounds. Ha ha.

No not at all! Our son went to the beach for the first time when he was only 9 months old. Now mind you we live in Seattle Washington so summer here is not super hot. We had an umbrella, sunscreen and lots of water to drink. We built his very first sand castle, waded in the water, looked for shells and just hung out. It was a blast!

I brought my children when they were 6 months old to the beach, you just bring items that help block out the sun or sit in shady areas and they have life jackets.. by the time they were one they were water babies..your daughter has been missing out get here out to the beach she will love it

NO, THAT'S NOT 2 YOUNG. MAKE SURE U USE SUNSCREEN ON HER, AS A MATTER OF FACT ASK HER PEDIATRICIAN IF IT'S OK FOR HER TO GO TO THE BEACH AND WHICH SUNSCREEN TO USE. HOPE THAT HELPED.
