Just wondering if anyone else celebrates "Gotcha Day". It is a holiday we celebrate in addition to our son's birthday every year... We celebrate on the day we got him! It is a holiday for just Mommy, Daddy, and Noah. We try to plan some fun family day and reflect on how blessed we are to have each other! Does anyone else do this or celebrate your adoptions yearly in a different way?

We celebrate the day our adoption of Lucas was finalized. He was six months old. The celebration focuses on the day we completed our family. It celebrates my daughter, Amelia just as much as it celebrates Lucas, because we are all equal in importance to our blessed family.

In our family August 1st is a very special day, the first time we saw our Daughter when we went to China. We keep it to just our family, it is a day we will never forget. Every year Lily wants to hear the whole story of how she came into our family, how she made us a family.

I believe we'll at least have a small celebration each year (our adoption is still in the works). Probably not with a gift but a celebration of us becoming a family. We try to do something special (a special dinner and maybe a balloon or something) on the day my husband met our son (he was deployed to Iraq when our son was born) so I think we'll celebrate similarly. I feel a little bad that our daughter doesn't have a special day other than the fact that it was special that both of us were present for her birth and the other two that isn't the case for. I welcome all suggestions. I love hearing how other people celebrate this special day.

Our son joined our family in Dec 2004 and our daughter in Dec 2006 - we celebrate each of their Gotcha Days every year. Now that they are getting a little older, it is becoming even more special because they are understanding it so much more - they know that this is the way our family became a family!!! We tell them every year that they are the greatest gifts in all the world!!

We have 2 boys adopted from Guatemala, we celebrate both of their 'gotch days' every year. They love to hear their own adoption story over and over. It is great fun, and just for our family, very special day.

We got our son the day he was born - we were able to be at the hospital. But his adoption finalization is coming up, and we plan to celebrate his Adoption Day each year. This year will be a BIG celebration, but then it will just be his special day with a family celebration.

We brought our first daughter home when she was 4 days old and she was officially adopted 4 months later. We celebrate "Adoption Day". Our second daughter came to us at 2 1/2 yrs old and is the biological sister of our first daughter. She lived with us for several months before she was officially adopted. What we do is every year on the day they were each adopted we let them pick out where they want to go for dinner and they also get a small present (under $20). Just our families little way of celebrating the day they officially became part of our forever family!! They love it!!! They know it is their own special day!!

We celebrated our first adoption day this year by serving as a family on a mission trip! We decided to celebrate by sharing some act of service every year on adoption day. My son was in the NICU his first two months of life and we were able to share 1 month of that with him, so the day he came home is his NICU graduation day, which we actually celebrate Mother's Day weekend by participateing in the March of Dimes March for Babies.

We also brought our daughter home at 2 days old.  So we celebrate Gotcha Day on the day that the judge finalized the adoption.  We also wanted to keep her birthday a separate and special day of it's own.  We always celebrate with a special homecooked dinner of her choice, a cake and a small gift.  We also invite friends and family to send her a note to express a special memory or just to say we love you.

I have adopted two children. They were both placed with me very early the first week or two. They are still quite young (1 and 2) and it appears that one day just runs into another for them. On a regular basis I tell them about their adoption stories. On a more formal basis what we do is celebrate National Adoption month. During November we celebrate all families, including birth families, that have experienced adoption.

We celebrate gotcha day on the day we finalized his adoption...kinda like we "gotch" for good LOL! We brought him home from the hospital at 48 hours old so we still like to celebrate his birthday too.

We celebrate gothca day by planting a tree each year. We let our daughter pick one out and then she knows it  is hers. It is a very special day for us.
