Long days at work and traveling all around.
But when a phone call comes in from my kids,
it is not easy to decline the call because I know I need to be there despite the distance especially when they need me.
The problem most often comes when there is an important function at work that has same schedule with my child's school activity.

I can so identify. Nothing like braving the security line at LAX when one of your kids is crying because the other one took the last package of Ramen Noodles and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it.. I think kids need to have the boundary lines drawn about when it is okay to call; and it is hard, because you feel bad leaving them at home when you work. But I guarantee that if they called Dad at work, he would not feel the guilt we do at saying honey I can't talk right now. All you can do is try to compromise. I have missed my shares of assemblies and concerts because I travel. I just try to really be there when I am there. I hope this makes sense. I have been a Road Warrior since 93 with kids.
