My husband and I are getting ready for our annual 15 hour car drive from Illinois to Texas. With our new son who will be 6 months old during the trip and our 3 year old daughter, you can say we are not looking forward to the confided space. On top of that our daughter is car sick on long journeys. We give her some dramamine for the sickness but it knocks her out. By the time we get there she is bouncing off the walls cause she slept the whole time and the rest of us are dragging from driving sraight through. Any one have any ideas of other remedies I can try?

I have a nearly 4 year old and a 15mth old and travell long distances. I find with my 4 yr old, playing eye spy is a good game( i find with myself i get car sick when im not looking out the window, so this is a good way to prevent your kids from getting car sick) You can either have a race to spot something 1st, like a windmill or a tractor, or cows, or you could draw pictures of different things and she has to find them and cross them off. Good luck!

We travel every alternate weekends to our FIL's and its a 4 hour drive there. I place my 3 1/2 yr old's car seat in the middle so the she look forward and not turn her head so much. I also try to restrain her movement in the car by supplying her with videos, toys, books and snacks to keep her still. Usually she doze off within the first hour, which makes it easy for us.I also keep plenty of old towels and wet wipes handy, and some bags for throwing up.

My Husband and I travel regularly, 18 - 36 hour road trips. We have a 1 yr old son & 2 yr old daughter and find toys, lots of snacks and movies help. We always do most of our driving at night so the kids sleep, makes it way easier on us and most importantly on the kids. Good luck!

We too are traveling, from MN to TX (15 hours, north TX!)! We have a 7 year old, 4 year old and 8 month old. My are we both brave!

About what to do for fun, have her pick out some toys, then add some variety in their categories: coloring books, reading books, games, CDs, stuffed animals. I've never dealt with motion sickness, but be sure to have some antibacterial wipes for any vomitting, a large plastic bowl or garbage pail and paper towels. Crack the window just a 1/2 in or so helps too. Let me know how it goes when you get back!

Does she drink cold tea? a little peppermint tea cold in a sippy cup might do the trick. We travel regularly from MI, to NJ and are looking at about the same length of time..Our children are older, but what we found that works is books on tape..You can get age appropriate stories on CD that might keep her engaged and hopefully keep her settled without bouncing around too much when you get there. We love these because just like a book, you can pick it up right where you left off!

Good Luck and Congratulations on your beautiful family!!!
