He HATES it. Bad. He will cry until he is throwing up. And he doesn't just cry himself to sleep. NO. He will cry the ENTIRE 4 hours. I have done everything! His doc said it was ok to give him benadryl to help keep him calm, but all I'm reading is that it has the opposite effect than calm. Then someone suggested melatonin. I'm not wanting to drug my baby. I'm just wanting to keep him from getting too upset that he throws up. Ideas?

car rides got dramatically better for us when we were able to turn the car seat around (which didn't happen until DD was 2!). She could see a little better and got much chattier. She would play elaborate make-believe games from her car seat. I know it doesn't help now, but at least you know it will get better. in the mean time, the best you can do is time driving to coincide with naps/bedtime.
Though sometimes we found that first thing in the morning worked well. They're fresh and not tired and tolerate the boredom better (sometimes).

Thanks Stephanie. We did end up leaving late. He didn't sleep the whole ride and fussed some. But it was still dramatically better than previous experiences. :)

hopefully things went ok. I would suggest leaving about the time that he is ready to sleep. Maybe that would help him to fall asleep in the car rather than be upset the whole time.
