Flying with a very active 16 Month Old

Help!! My husband and I are going on a family trip to Maui and will be taking my very active 16 month old on the plane for the first time. I hate flying and have to take Gravol to prevent getting air sick so I'm not a good person to travel with anyway, how do we keep our daughter entertained and happy when we can't even get her to sit and eat at a resturant?

I went UK to Singapore with my then 14 months old, I was on my own and slightly nervous about it. I bought a whole lot of small toys/gifts and wrapped them in wrapping paper. During the flight I took them out every hour or so, she enjoyed opening them more than playing with them though!
And what we mainly ended up doing though was walking round and round the plane for most of the flight. Tiring but this way she gave noone any problems.

We bought a bunch of toys from the dollar store. (If they have packaging even better) and once he started to get antsey we just started pulling them out and giving them to her and letting her open them. Lots of food and get ready to walk the plane about 1,000 times. DVD player worked once he got older.

I recently travelled from UK to Dubai (7.5hrs) with my very active 2.5 year old. I was also worried how she would be (this was her first flight). I took a rucksack full of things to do - coloring books, sticker books, portable DVD player, etc. Most airlines give you stuff as well. Fortunately Emirates have a great in flight entertainment system with lots for kids (little einsteins, mickey mouse, night garden, etc) so she loved that as well.



Friends said to me if she wants to get up, then let her have a walk (as long as it's not while they're serving a meal!) - so she can stretch her legs.



I can totally empathise re restaurants - my little girl is the same!

Bring lots of finger foods and a few small toys. My son enjoyed watching a video and looking at pictures on our laptop.
