Toys for the car ride for a Toddler

When we go to see my husband’s family they live 9 ½ hours from us. We also go visit his great aunt which is a 4 hour drive. I feel so bad for my son because we have been doing this drive for a long time at least one time a year to both or more. I feel like my son is super bored and we now leave at night to go out but on the way home we leave in the mornings. So I don’t know what types of toys, books, or music to get for him. My husband been doing the same drive but it was only 12 hour drive and he thinks our son shouldn’t need anything but when I look back at him he just looking out the window bored or he will scream because he wants to run around/has nothing to do. So I really would like some ideas to see how they go because in two months we are doing the 4 hour drive. (Ideas for toys) by the way my son likes to throw his toys we take for a short ride around where we live so I am not sure what to do. Thanks!

We travel a lot with our kids, we work in Japan, home is California and my family lives in Sweden. Our son is just over 5 months but our daughter who's now almost 3, is used to long flights across the world. And hands down, the best thing we ever bought her was an IPod touch 8GB. We got her that when she was 18 months, as we noticed how skilled she was playing with my husbands Ipod. She has her favorite shows on it, and there are tons of educational spelling, memory and counting applications you can down load to it. It keeps her busy on long flights and car rides and it takes no space in her back pack. And of course, she's learning a ton. We definitely got our moneys worth with that one.

Yeah I really wish my son would like to start his potty training but I had no idea what we would do when we travel.

We took our first trip with our 3 year in May about a 4 hour drive and she did very good. We have a DVD player in the car, and let her pick her favorite movies to take, I also packed a small cooler with her some snacks and drinks. I sit in the back seat with her and that helps to keep her entertained. Also, you will have to stop and let them stretch their legs and run around some. We were potty training at the time and it was a must for us to stop, (No accidents though) she needed to move around so her bowels would move. Hope this helps and you have a fun and safe trip.

Yeah his dad doesn't like to make stops thats the bad thing. I was thinkin about taking my laptop so he can watch videos.

I recommend books; your sons' favorite animals / toys; and a portable DVD player! Make sure that you make stops along the way for him to stretch and run around - adults have more tolerance for sitting in the car for long periods of time than kids do. I would also make sure that I have snacks and drinks available during the ride. Good luck!!

they have an over the seat thing to keep all toys and such in childs reach. I would take the fav. toy. if he likes to color the over the seat thing has a pull out lap table for him to pull out and color on ( use color wonder to save your car the stains).
