Hi!
I'm writing a thesis on why multiple births occur and was wondering- does anyone have a set of unidentical triplets (all definately unidentical) that they concieved naturally without the use of any fertility treatments?
I'm just interested as I haven't come across any in my research so figure they must be really quite rare (or impossible?)

While I do note this post is old, some comments are not and therefore I post:
In actuality, all identical twins are much, much more unlikely than all fraternal or any combination. Most studies approximate a 1/15 chance of conceived triplets being all identical, whether spontaneous or in vitro.

My stepsons are unidentical naturally occurring triplets. :) I assume it's rare.

Yes I have now my sons are 17yrs my only daughter just found out she having a baby her tummy is a bit big I'm thinking is she or not we will no in few weeks

I'm currently pregnant with triplets. only four weeks along but they currently look like they have their own fetuses. Will know more in about two weeks.

i am 6 wks now and have naturally conceived fraternal triplets 1st pregnancy. I am not sure if they will make it but im rooting for them. I am 24 years old married 2 years and I have three yolk sacs attached in one gestational sac. It is quite rare to where they didnt know what they were looking at and i almost received a D&C. scary! but they are fighters... jut waiting to see improvement hopefully. I am very uncomfortable already, and my husband is wondering what he did. :) there are no triplets on either side of the families. I simply dropped three eggs and they all made it before the cervix closed, all in the same room.

Yup, me too! I have 7 month old triplets that were a total surprise. No treatments! And not identical. I produced 3 eggs, and got 3 lovely babies. Also there is history of triplets in my family.

Yes, that is my family. We have 2 girls and a boy almost 6. This is the 2nd set of spontaneous triplets in my family history.

I have a set of triplet boys that are unidentical! No fertiltiy treatments were used. They were born on 12/13/10. I also have a daughter whom is 20 months old. Please feel free to contact me I would be glad to answer any questions you may have!

I conceived triplets naturally with absolutely no fertility. I have one fraternal girl and two identical mirror image girls.

Alana- I'm just finishing a degree now and want to go into medicine after this, specializing in obstetrics and gynecology so wanted to do my thesis on something in that area. I happened to be reading about twins one day and thought it was really interesting how twinning rates vary across countries, so for instance in the Yoruba tribe in Africa, about 1 in every 22 births is a twin birth, whereas in Asia, only approximately 1 in 500 births are twins.
I decided that my thesis was going to try to work out why this might be and it turns out that there are all sorts of factors associated with multiple births- the mother's diet, her height and weight, how much coffee she drinks, whether or not there are multiples in the parents' families etc etc... I've decided to concentrate on twins specifically because otherwise the thesis is going to be huge.
I am intrigued that Jenn has natural all unidentical triplets- I can only find stuff on all identical or two identical and one not. Apart from the usual theories of identical multiples being due to eggs splitting, and fraternal twins being due to two eggs being released by the ovaries at the same time, there are some alternative theories, and I wonder whether the existence of all unidentical triplets can support one of these theories...

My triplets are very natural but my boys are identical. It think you might be looking for a needle in a hay stack but this is a good place to look. You just might get lucky.
What made you want to choose that for your thesis? Just a bit interested.
