I have 9 month old boy/girl twins and was curious as to how other twins compared on the growth chart percentages. Mine are currently 18 and 16 pounds and about 27.5 inches long. They are only 20% for weight but 50% for height. The doc says what's important is how much they've changed since birth and they have done well with that, but still they are lighter than most babies at this point. My babes were born one day shy of 38 weeks so they were not premature. Also I have never used formula. Now they are eating mostly baby food and cereal but they still nurse several times a day. I'd also be interested in knowing how much baby food and cereal your twins eat in a day as a reference.

My twins were born at 29.5 weeks (they weighed in at right 3 lbs each and were 18 inches long) and at 9 months, they weighed 18.4 lbs (20%tile) and 19.2 lbs (30%tile) and were 28 inches (40%tile) and 27.5 inches (25%tile). Their heads are a little bigger, but nothing compared to my first son (he was 10%tile for weight/height and his head circ was like 70%tile). They are growing very well considering that at the 6 month check up, they both right around the 5%tile.

As for feeding, they eat non-stop (or at least it feels that way to me). Daily, they get about 1/3 to 1/2 C baby oatmeal mixed with fruit, veggies (either chopped/steamed or jarred), fruit (either chopped/steamed or jarred), some yogurt, and formula (somewhere in the range of 20-25 ounces). There are days they eat it all and clammer for more. Then there are days when they don't finish anything. I usually just wing it and will probably change their schedule soon (as they self feed more).

Wow, your babies are growing great.  My babies eat a lot of baby food, but it just doesn't seem to be showing up in weight gain yet.  They just turned 10 months today.  I guess they are just little for the time being.  3 pounds in a couple of months, she is really grwoing fast.  Sounds like even though they came a bit early they have caught up really fast.  Great job mom.

My kids were 5 lbs 9 oz, 18.75 inches and 6 lbs 9 oz, 18 in when they were born.  All the babies on my side of the family have always been bigger - over 8 pounds at birth, so I guess I'm gauging them compared to that.  I have to remember that it might just take a little longer for my kids to catch up because they were smaller when they were born.

They probably don't like the texture of the 3rd stage foods!

You know it's so much about genetics, too. Me and my husband are both big boned and tall (I'm 5' 10'', or used to be before those darn babies) so our babies are big boned and tall.

It's all relative.

My kids love the gerber puffs as well.  They also really like those baby mum-mum snacks.  They don't want to eat stage 3 yet, they just spit it out whenever I try to give it to them.  Man your babies are growing great.  Thanks for the input.

Mine were born just over 37 weeks at 7lb 1 oz and 7lb 11 oz and both 20 inches long. They just turned 9 months and are both 22 lb 12 oz and 31 inches long.  So they're off the charts for height and 80 percentile for weight.

I've formula fed for the whole time, besides when I tried to supplement by pumping. I'll try better next time, breastfeeding is hard!

Otherwise they eat yogurt/cereal and fruit for breakfast, grain plus veg for lunch, stage 3 combo meal for dinner plus one fruit.  I offer them snack of those gerber puffs that they love.

They eat 4 bottles a day (btwn 6-8oz of formula).

It helped that I was able to leave work at 28 weeks and just relax then  :)

Thanks for the input.  I guess my babies are eating plenty for their age because they eat quite a bit more baby food than you mentioned in addition to all the other things.  I guess as long as they are healthy and growing it doesn't really matter if they are a bit smaller.  Man you carried your babies well and all the way to 39 weeks- what a strong woman you must be.

Can't help with the growth charts as my wins were born in Ireland, where they don't have those. From looking online though, my girl is slightly below average height but normal in weight, and my boy is way taller than average and about average weight. They were born at 39 weeks, the girl being 21 inches and 6.6 pounds and the boy 22 inches and 7.4 pounds (most of that head- he has a huuuge head and would probably be considered underweight in body even now).

Well done on the breastfeeding!  I only managed 6 months with my twins. They are a year old now but here is what they ate at 9 months:

Breeakfast of babycereal with a little bit of stewed fruit, equivalent of a small jar of baby food

Lunch of one banana, stewed apple, or rarely a yoghurt.

Dinner of a jar of stage 3 babyfood, or roughly mashed version of our dinner if suitable (not too salty etc)

Snack foods of half a slice of lightly toasted bread with a bit of butter, some cheerios, bits of mammy's lunch (broccoli spears, couple of spoons of mashed potato), rice cakes. Amount depended on the day/ what they wanted.

For drink, they had as much watered uice (1/3 apple, prune or grape juice/ 2/3 water) as they wanted, a bottle of formula first thing in the morning and last at night, and usually a third bottle to last them through the day,
