Is anybody else breastfeeding their twins?

I am a mother of 4 month old twin boys and everyone thought I was crazy to want to breastfeed my twins, but it's going great and I love it :) At first I used to breastfeed them at the same time in a football position, but now they are too big to breastfeed at the same time (I can't seem to fit them both in a comfortable position). Anyone have any advice? I have been feeding them separately for a few months now but it's obviously alot more time consuming.

We used pillows and a comfy chair, as they got older we didn't need so many pillows. I have 19 month ID Ladies. We just weaned do to tooooo many darn teeth:) We tandem nursed 90% of the time. As they got taller they liked to stradle a leg facing me and cuddle on in almost in a full recline ... worked well for me. Also just laying in bed they become more than self suffiecient getting comfy. Best Wishes and congrats. Way to go!

My girls are 9 months old now and I've been breastfeeding them mostly in the football hold, although now they sometimes get pinching or trying to pull the nipple out of the other ones mouth or poking each other in the eye so I try to keep them as far apart as I can, or sometimes I'll nurse them separately - for instance after nap time if one wakes up first.

Congrats to all the BF moms of twins. I pumped until mine were 7 1/2 mos. I just couldn't find a comfortable enough position to nurse.

My twins are 10 month's old now. During the day their so active now that I find I'm feeding them separately, one feeds while the other plays. They will become more and more efficient at BF so they won't take as long which helps. I still mostly feed football position though, they get used to laying on their side and curling their legs up so they fit. At night, I sit on the bed with two pillows on the bed beside me and then two pillows on each leg extending from my leg to resting on the pillow on the bed, that way they can stretch out. My husband is usually close by though in case they are really restless and I can't manage them together.

im breastfeeding my 4 month olds at the same time i put a little table on one side of my recliner chair and a dining chair on the side with a pillow on it. have both laying on a pillow on my lap in the football hold their legs resting on the dining chair and table. i use 3 normal pillows and 2 lil baby pillows to elevate their heads to the breast. sounds hard to do but is quite simple i even get on the internet on the same time by just pushing the chairs up to the computer...

I'm tandem nursing my 7 month old twins. All i use is my boppy pillow although I agree that it can be uncomfortable from time to time. Other times it's not a matter of comfort but a matter of keeping them safe from eachothers curious pinching hands. Nomatter how you do it the point is that you're nursing them. Good for you!!!

My twins just turned one this week and I'm still breastfeeding. They go through stages where it's harder to feed them together, but I agree with the other post that as they get older you can feed them together if you want to. I've started to feed them together occasionally, but since they only feed for about 10 minutes now, it's not so bad to feed them separately as well. Sounds like you are doing a great job. It's a lot of work, but worth all the effort in the end.

My 8 month old twin girls still tandem feed but it is more difficult than when they were newborn to do the football hold. They do like the position where one is laying crosswise, and the other in football hold a lot as long as the one crosswise isn't in the mood to kick her sister in the face. But I agree with the previous post that it does get easier as they get older because they can hold their heads up better and find the nipple on their own with less help from me so it is easier in that respect, but we still spend a good amount of time nursing separately, especially during the day. You just have to find what works for you and your boys! Good Luck and Congrats for making it this far,

I am new to this "circle of moms" but I just wanted to say how awesome it is to hear that there are other people out there breastfeeding twins.  I have 2 older children (8yr and 2yr).  I have to say that I started out feeding separate and now they are 8months and I am feeding them together in the football hold.

hi there, i'm still tandem breastfeeding my 10 month twins. i remember thinking they were getting too big to nurse at the same time when they were about the age of yours but as long as you have a good nursing pillow you can fold their little legs up behind you. i'm also pasting a bunch of websites with some great photos of different feeding positions to try. i tried a few of them but mine just seem to settle best in the football hold when i tandem nurse them.

keep going with the nursing! it just gets easier and easier the older they get! you are over the hardest first months now :) i used to nurse them separately on occasion, but it was nice to be able to tandem nurse them down when it was nap/bed time. i would keep trying to find a good position because, while it's nice to get one-on-one time with each child, the expediency of tandem nursing can make a big difference in the middle of the night or when you are pinched for time.

good luck

My twins are 10 months and still tandem nursing. I do the football on each side with a boppy. Sometimes I will be nursing one(so laying across) and the other one crawls over and wants to nurse so I put him in the football hold, but they don't really like it all that much, so we stick to mostly just the football for each.

Hey there, My girls turn 13 months tomorrow and I just weaned them.  I breast fed them tandem for the entire time.  I used a pillow , here's the link:   http://www.doubleblessings.com/servlet/D... .  That pillow saved my life and I am not kidding, I never could have done it without it.  Hope it helps.

Another idea for you is to lay one across your lap (normal feeding position for one baby) and then place the other in the football hold laying his head on the legs of the first.  It takes a little getting used to, but it might be more comfortable for your guys..Mine don't sit up to feed, they just lay down on the pillow and make themselves comfortable.  But each child if different.  A friend of mine here has 18 month olds that just sit down beside her and lift her shirt and nurse.  She says they have always prefered to sit up to nurse so they can see what's going on...so experiment a little and see what your guys prefer.

My son was 2.5 years when my daughters were born.   Having three children is definitely interesting...I will say it's challenge trying to get everyone ready to go and out the door.  We are always way early or way late...never on time.  Depending on when you are planning on having another getting a tripler stroller will save you A LOT of heartaches.  I've also heard that if you have twins to start with having a singleton after that seems like a piece of cake

Quoting Lien:

13 months, wow, that is great, good for you! :) I hope I last that long. So when they start to crawl, do they sit up to breastfeed at the same time?

I see on your profile that you have 3 kids. Did you have your twins first, or after your first child? I'm hoping to have a third one in a few years. How do you like having 3?

I've been thinkin' about havin' another in a few years also.  I want to try for a girl, not that I'd be upset if I had another boy.  Now, just gotta get the hubby to agree..hahaha

I am still breastfeeding my 13 month old twins and if I remember correctly around five months I was no longer able to breastfeed them at the same time...don't worry this is time consuming, but it soon passes and  as soon as they start crawling you can start feeding them at the same time again.  Now I'm to the point I just sit on the floor with my breastfeeding pillow and the girls will come up and lay themselves down and get comfy on their own.
