Same or separate bowls at feeding time

Hi Joady,
My name is Toni and I have identical twin boys whom are 2 in March. Both my boys have a great appetite, so I have always shared one big bowl between them. When they were sick, separate bowls and spoons. Now they feed themselves, YAY for me!!! but if one does nott eat as much as the other, maybe feed them with separate bowls to keep tabs on how much each is eating.

i feed my boys from the same bowl, i find that the seperate bowls are just too much and often i would forget whose bowl is whose so a single bowl is easier

Ours are 14 months and we mostly do finger foods but when we do use spoon feeding I use one bowl/one spoon. The only time I don't do it is when one just got sick but the other seems well...I figure they are passing everything back and forth anyway and are building up immunity to the same things.

I have 7 month old identical twin boys and I did that once and then thought the same thing so now I use seperate bowls and spoons, just to be on the safe side.

I have always fed my boys from the same plate and spoon. My little girl is only 16 months older than my twin boys and the first year was so crazy...I'm pretty sure they drank from each others bottle most of the time also. I was going to add that my boys steal each others sippy cups, or they lay them down and then the other picks it up...I don't see that feeding is much different.

Well I use the same bowl unless on of the twins is sick then I separate it out hoping the other doesn't get sick as well.....yeah right huh? They also eat after my husband and I unless again we are sick.

When they are healthy, yes they share the same bowl & spoon. But once one shows sickness I switch to two bowls & two spoons. Seems to work...mine are nearly 1yo.

If i'm feeding them same bowl , if there trying to eat on there own seperate bowls. my twins are 20 months old. whatever works best at the time.

I have wondered the same thing, my twins (turned 1 in November), are still sharing the same bowl, as like you, they are primarily being fed by me. I havent had any trouble with illness, but wondering if this is a good thing to be doing?

I feed them from the same bowl and same spoon - way easier! Anything to help keep your sanity I say :)

LOL! Here's how I look at it...my twins both suck on every toy in sight. My son steals his sister's pacifier from her about 20 times a day, sticks it in his mouth, and runs away. They steal eachother's sippy cups and drink from them. They share a room. They stick their fingers in eachother's eyes, noses, mouths...all day long. Sharing a spoon is nothing. LOL, they share everything else. Trust me when I say that even if they ate out of two bowls, unless you have them in seperate houses, they are going to share their germs, one way or another. ♥

I had lots of people telling me to feed them separately. The fact is, a person without twins cannot possibly understand the time constraints and the PITA it is to do things the same way as with a singleton. Frankly, the notion of preventing sickness by feeding them separately is crap. They will catch whatever each other has....if yours are anything like mine, they spend half the day swapping toys and pacifiers that are in their mouths. Feed them however is most convenient for you and them. You could start giving them pieces of regular food on a high chair tray. I started doing that with mine when they were about 11 months. And, if I put their chairs too close together, they steal pieces of each other's food, even if its already been chewed and spit back out. Take your time and do not worry.

I usually use the same bowl and spoon too. i started by trying to separate everything (sippy cups, binkys, bowls, spoons, etc) but found it was just too much of a PITA. Of course if one is getting sick, I really do try but I also figure, if one gets sick it will be a miracle if the other doesn't as well. I mean they chew on the same toys all day and I cannot separate them. I say whatever works best for you and can keep your sanity.
