Anyone have advice?

At what I thought was my 7 week scan, showed twins, both with good heart rates, but one looked 8 weeks and 1 day, and the other 6 weeks and 4 days.

Doctors dont seem too positive, but Ive heard a few storys and ideas that give me some hope for the two

I had a scan at 5 & 7 weeks both showed the gestational sacs significantly different sizes. The babies themselves measured similar. They were concerned I may have twin-twin transfusion. But another ultrasound by a maternal fetal specialist confirmed they each had their own placentas and by 14 weeks everything had evened out and the babies were the same size. There are several things that could play a factor. If they are identical and share a placenta there could be a twin to twin transfusion going on where one baby is getting more of the nutrients that the other because blood vessels pass from one baby to the other through the placenta. They can check this on a detailed ultrasound and it is treatable. They have had good success with coderizing the blood vessels that pass from one baby to the other. ( This is probably the a scarier possibility that other causes but something to be aware of and watch for throughout your pregnancy if you have twins that share a placenta.) The other cause may be that your twins were concieved at slightly different times. As much as a week apart. which would cause them to be growing at their own rates and be different sizes. The best scenerio is you had a newer ultrasound tech who just didn't get a good measurement on one or both of the babies. Your still really early into your pregnancy and my best suggestion is not to worry about it. You have two amazing little lives growing away inside you. Stress just makes the situation harder and the first trimester with twins is hard enough with the extra hormones we are kicking out! Have confidence that if you are supposed to have twins you are going to have twins and God will give you the peace and strength you need to grow them big and strong in the meantime. I'm a FTM at 23 weeks with twins and its been an amazing journey so far and continues to be. I just keep putting my trust in God as things start to worry me knowing that he has my growing babies in his hands and knows what's best for the and for me. No matter what happens as my pregnancy goes on he's there to help me get through it. I'll be praying for you as your babies grow! Keep us posted on how your next ultrasound goes! They grow so fast its amazing! God Bless!

At 16 weeks my ultrasound showed that one baby was 5 ounces and the other was 4 ounces. My twins should be identical because they run on my husband's side, so I am also concerned I could have twin-twin transfusion. However, my sonographer told me since they were both within the range wehre they should be, I shouldn't worry at this point.

Well, I have a good story for you! The first thing I am going to say is take the ultrasounds light-heartedly. They are not perfect - Not Even Close! They use the ultrasound as way to help monitor. I had my last ultrasound of my twin boys at 36 weeks. One was measuring around 7lbs and the other was measuring around 6lbs. I was scheduled for a c-section at 28 weeks, but they took them 2 days early. When they took baby A out (estimated 7lbs) he weighed 8lbs 3oz. Baby B (estimated 6lbs) came out weighing 4lbs 13oz.

Today Baby A is 12lbs 15oz and Baby B is 9lbs 12oz. They were both very healthy and continue to be so. They tried very hard to find something wrong with my little one - but nothing! So, I wouldn't worry if they are different sizes. I'm sure they will both be healthy! And it makes it easier to tell them apart ;)

Just to update, Baby B didnt make it. Unfortunately it stopped growing at 6weeks 5 day, the day after the scan.
I am now 14 weeks pregnant with a singleton, which appears to be a boy!!! I already have t2o girls. Perhaps this is what we had to go thru to get our boy?
I never had any abnormal pains are any spotting. Baby B and its sac were still obvious at the 14 weeks scan, so should just come out with the placenta a Baby A's birth
