I have a B/G set of twins and they are just smart as can be,they know what all the words are when we tell them to do something or go and get things but they just don't speak...Is this normal or should I be concerned.

My twin girls didn't talk at 18 months old either which did concern me because their 3 older sisters had. They are now just 2.5 and are speaking in full sentences so I wouldn't be concerned now at just 18 months. And I agree with everyone else on here--keep reading to them!

My first son didn't start talking until he was over 2 years old. My oldest daughter did all the talking for him. I had to make her stop doing that, but to this day my son is not much of a talker and he is 19years old. Now both of my girls (age 24 and 16) don't shut up.
My 7 year old twins (one boy, one girl) both are talkers. But neither one of them really started talking clearly until they were close to 2. Well they talked to each other all the time prior to that and seemed to know what each other was saying, but we couldn't fully understand them at the time.

18 months is a little young but if they are not talking by 2 get an evaluation. My b/g twins were admittedly wildly different in progress (she talked, he didn't) but my boy ended up getting diagnosed with a speech disorder called apraxia which is a motor planning disorder that interferes with the ability to talk. I didn't get him the speech therapy he needed until 3. I feel like we lost a whole year when he could have been getting better. Listen to your instincts and if you feel there is a problem don't let anyone brush you off with platitudes about they'll talk when their ready or 'you're just not making them talk' (grrrrrrr). Get an eval and put your mind to rest. Most states have an early childhood intervention program through either the county or the school district. Contact them.

MIne were that way too. If it would put your mind at ease, have them evaluated by the state health agency thru First Steps. Mine didn't really started talking a lot until they were about 2.5 yr old.

My twins were the same way!!! They are now 2 yrs and 8 mos and are talking but still maybe not like they should. They are so smart with everything else they just didnt wanna talk. I just kept trying and read to them alot more. we also let them watch more tv like dora and other learning shows and that helped too.

My daughter was like this too. The best thing we did for her was reading to her. We made a point to start reading to her multiple books during the day and it wasn't very long after that that she started talking. Give them time and they'll start soon.
