In my ultrasound to measure their anatomy and growth the doctors were alarmed at how much bigger Baby A is than Baby B, they said some difference is sometimes ok but my babies are measuring too far apart. Could this be TTTS? does anyone have any experience with this? I go for my Level 2 ultrasound and to see a perinatologist Monday. Im scared and stressing out. :/ I've made it so far and now it seems like things are taking a turn for the bad.

Do you know if the twins are sharing a placenta? I went through growth discordance at somewhere in my mid-20s for weeks (it's all so fuzzy now). Twin A was much smaller.. I think it was 22% or so. Anyway, we wound up having to go for weekly ultrasounds. Twin B was growing normally, I believe Twin A was lagging about three weeks behind. It came down to whether or not Twin A kept growing. As long as we saw growth, they were content to leave the babies in. They also checked the fluid levels and the blood flow in the brain and umbilical cord, looking for usual complications that develop. If we had one week of no growth, we had to see growth the following week or they would need to look into other measures. Thankfully it never came to that.

I was never put on bed rest, as Twin B was growing normally. In fact the consensus seemed to be there wasn't much I could do beyond the monitoring and getting enough rest. The thinking seemed to be Twin A had poor placenta placement and simply wasn't getting his share. That said, it was still pretty tough not to worry.

In the end, one week before our scheduled section, at the last ultrasound, they found a problem with Twin A's blood flow, and off to the hospital we went for a section. We made it 35w6d. Twin A was less than even the ultrasound estimate (3 lbs, 15 oz) and spent 5 days in the NICU. Twin B was 5 lbs, 1 oz and fine. Now they are nearly 17 months old and running everywhere. No health concerns at all. They've jumped into the 10-25 percentile for weight, and Twin A eats like a friggin horse (this kid will bankrupt me when he hits his teens). I often think he's making up for that lost time in the womb!

I don't know how much of this will help you. It's so scary, but just try to relax and make it week to week. The fact they're keeping an eye on you is very good!

I called today to get more info, and all they would tell me over the phone is that I have a growth discordance of 28%... I have a friend who is a nicu nurse so I asked her her opinion on all of this... and she said that 28% seems really high for how early I am. Anyone else had this high of a growth discordance this early? I'm really worried because everything I read says that usually when this happens they put you on hospital bedrest.. :/

My OB made it mandatory to get a Level 2 ultrasound. It will just allow them to see the babies measurements more clearly. I had to have 3 Level 2's done because my boys weren't cooperative. Relax for now, see what the doctors have to say. If you do have ttts, they will just watch your babies more closely and intervene if things get dangerous. Good luck! Things will work out fine.
