I am 27 weeks pregnant and I've felt like I'm having twins from the start but no ultrasound so far and my midwife has never picked up 2 heart beats with doppler or fetoscope. I'm not growing ahead of schedule for the norm but for me I am. It is my 4 pregnancy though my first ended in miscarriage. My other 2 were perfectly healthy and good size babies but I measured 1-3 weeks behind the whole way and took forever gaining weight. I've had 4 times the symptoms this time, lots of vaginal swelling and discharge and more back pain, earlier movement and different kind of movement. I guess I'm wondering if I should fight for an ultrasound to be somehow covered by medi-cal just to make sure or if you guys think it would be obvious by this point that it's twins. I've probably only gained 16 pounds (net) because I lost about 5 pounds in the first trimester unable to keep anything down. I gained a total of 27 with both my full term pregnancies. I am a small person to begin with 5'3" and prepreg weight was 117. Plus I practice Bikram regularly.

For my second pregnancy, I had an ultrasound at 4 weeks and one at 9 weeks because I had taken clomid. Both times I was told I had one baby-we never heard two heartbeats. At my 23 week ultrasound, we were shocked to find out we were having twins. Our girls were born healthy and wonderful at 36 weeks. So, yes, it is possible to find out late!
