Anyone out there with a Singleton after fraternal twins? Or twins again?

Hi, I have twin boys age 3 1/2 yrs old, and when my husband and I wanted to try for a girl , we were the same scared about having twins again, because I have the genes for the fraternal twins, lucky we jus have a singleton little baby girl, though the next time around I am afraid that if you want to have another it can possibly twins, anyways I ran across this web page if this will help ..

I have 11 year old twin girls, conceived another set when they were 19 months but lost them at 5 months, & now have a 21 month old son. He is a handful by himself, but no where near as much as the twins were....all naturally conceived.

I had a singleton after twins, both pregnancies were accidents...It was really scary after you have a set of twin the chances you will have another set goes up by 50%. My pregnancy went really well though

I have Boy/Girl twins and when they were 21 months old I had a singleton boy. They were fabulous with him and although the baby required more attention they were fine with the change and I believe it helped them too that they had each other. They are fabulous helpers! They are 3 now and my little guy is 19 months. They adore him and he just loves them too. No matter if you have twins or singleton I am sure it will be a wonderful experience :D

Hi I had my identical twin boys with my first pregnancy and was thrilled they are now 21. I had four more children after and all were singles,and only once did they suspect it may be twins again but I knew it wasn't. I would have welcomed twins again they were so much easier i hink . Well good luck to all who are atempting another baby. My youngest just turned 10 and I miss the baby days.

I have Fraternal twin boys (2.5yrs) and am hoping to start trying for another child with my husband again soon, but I am terrified of having twins again! I really dont think I could handle another set of twins!! *Fingers Crossed* I only have a singleton next, but I'll take what I get :) I didnt think I would be able to handle twins the first time either :)

I have fraternal twin daughters that are 5 and a singleton son that is 18 mo. It took us 8 years to get preg with the girls so we were shocked when we conceived our son. I really didn't worry much about having another set of twins. I can say that being preg with one and taking care of one is a breeze compared to the girls. Good luck,

hi jenn..my 1st pregnancy was fraternal twins....then i had singleton....then had 2nd set of twins but identicals...im now pregs again and so scared of my scan lol im not sure what to expect 1,2 or 3!! lol

fraternal twins through IVF after being told I could never get pregnant and then 14 months after they were born I got pregnant on my own with my son(SURPRISE) LOL. idk what the percentages are for the next pregnancy to be twins but it's not a concern that I would let hold you back from conceiving again. What's the difference between 3 or 4 kids anyway?? lol...you are outnumbered regardless!

I have 4 /12 year old boy/girl twins and a 4 month old singleton (girl). Our doctor told us there was a 45% chance that we would twins again, because ours were natural. We weren't planning on having any more kids so we were very surprised to find out we were pregnant. I have to say it's been wonderful, the pregnancy was great and just having her is so easy. Maybe because we had 2 at once the time. I say go for it! It's been such a joy!

I guess I got struck with a lighting bolt cause I had a singleton boy for my first child then identical twin girls then 8 years later identical twin girls again after a vascetomy. I know this is crazy and most twin parents could not emagine having 2 sets, including myself, but its great and I love them so much, twins are just awesome and I living proof that it can happen twice :-} it's very rare it's in book of records for 1 in 25 million chance and much more common to have faternal twins twice. Anythings possible,, God's plans are not your own.

I had a singleton after twins...but I was terrified it would be twins again! I made the dr do an ultrasound at my first appt to make sure I was only having one! And to answer your question about how it was... EASY! My twins were 8 wks early; my little guy was on time. The twins never slept ever! My little guy slept for 7 hrs the first night he was born and never quit. Easy, easy, easy after having twins!

i had 1 baby first then Fraternals and i am pregnant again but just with one and all pregnancys were all natural and no help from any IVF or anything. So i guess that would mean anything could happen. Good luck

It depends on what kind of twins you had. Identical: no increase in probability of having another set. Fraternal: definitely a higher probability. 1 in 12 cited below is about right.

I have 4 children all together, a 12 year old, 4 year old fraternal twins and a 2 year old. The twins were a result of IVF so we weren't so careful. I got pregnant again when they were 16 months old. It was very hard but well worth it.

I am a mother of four. I have a son who is 6 twin girls who are almost 5 and their sister who is almost 4. I always get my you have your hands full. Which is a true statement but not as hard as most people make it out to be. I think if you want more kids don't let the thought of having more multiples scare you. If you believe in God pray and tell him your worries. He will help you get through anything. Nothing is to big or small. As moms we always figure out a way to get through what ever comes we are built this way. If you live near family get them involved. and never let the negative attitudes prevail in your life. You may hear you are crazy to have more. But truth be told they are just scared they couldn't do it and if you do you are better than they are. I am tired a lot, but I think if you ask any mom they will also say they get tired. My kids are young and back to back. Most of the time I get asked if I have triplets. But in all honesty I am happy they are close in age because my girls are the best of friends. My son is amazing. Not going to lie it is a lot of work but if you are up fro it then go for it.

Identical twins are a lighting strike so you're chance to have more twins wont increase at all. Fraternals do increase your chances but not as much as you may think. I was told it's about 10% more likely on your next pregnancy, which is pretty much what Destiny said.

I had a singleton 13 months after I had spontaneous fraternal twins.

My twins (Aubree and Nicholas) are 14 months old and I am 21 weeks pregnant with a girl. They (the twins) will be 18 months old when Annabelle is born. I was nervous in the beginning that it would be twins again bc we were not planning to get pregnant so soon in the first place, but my doctor, who is a multiples specialist, said that your chances DO increase after having twins, but not for the next 2 pregnancies so much. He said it is very unlikely to have twins directly following twins. Also, a lot of people think that your chances of having twins go up to 40% but he also said that that number is not accurate. Your chances only go up to 1 in 12 which is about 8%. It is drastically more than the initial (I think it was) 1.3% everyone has in the beginning, but it is still not HIGHLY likely. Just MUCH MORE likely. But 8% is worth the risk, in my oppinion. If you have twins first, then after you have 2 single births, though, then your chances will increase to 40% and he said that is where that number comes from. Also, these statistics are for people who conceive fraternal twins ONLY and only conceiving them naturally. So if identicals are any part of it then your chances are still EXTREMELY low and if they were assisted reproduction of any sort, then they are counted differently as well.

my twin girls are turning 3yrs old this sept and we're now contemplating on getting pregnant again. i absolutely enjoy having my twins however challenging it has been but wouldn't mind having another set. just hoping to have boys this time around. although having a singleton would be absolutely delightful!

Thanks for the replies! I have not spoke to my doctor yet, but I think we are going to give it a try anyway, we will see what happens. One more month of pills and then we start again!

oh dear, i have twin boys and didnt think that next time round there would be a very good chance of having twins.. maybe i am wrong. Not preggas yet so i guess we will see.

I have a singleton after twins (but the twins were IVF), and the singleton was a surprise since we had such trouble the first time around. If I recall correctly, your chances of twins again are pretty high if you had conceived them naturally (vs IVF) as you probably release more than one egg each cycle.

Hi Jenn, I had twins with my first pregnancy and after 6 years I got twins again. The doctor told me that every time that I will fall pregnant it will be twins. I will never carry a singleton only might have triplets if I try again.

I've got twins after twins. =D But, we weren't trying for any more kids at all. In fact, we had such a hard time getting pg the first time that we just didn't take any precautions at all. Surprise!



Our first twins were IVF (after 6 years)... and the 2nd set are an identical surprise.



I absolutely love it -- and you would, too. So, no need to fear!
