I live at high altitude which immediately put me at high risk with twins. I went on medication to stop the contractions at about 28 weeks. My doc took me off the meds at 36 weeks and my water broke 4 days later. I would never have made it to 39 weeks!

[deleted account]

I was scheduled for a c-section at 39 weeks, but my water broke at 37 1/2 weeks. My twins were very good size, my girl was 6 lbs 10 oz, my boy was 7 lbs 9 oz, so I'm glad I went when I did!

I was told that I wouldn't be allowed to go over 38 weeks, as I was super huge. And my girls were on the larger size for twins (6lbs 3oz & 6lbs 6oz born plus heaps and heaps of fluid, my stars where did it all come from?!!) . My girls came at 36 weeks. Waters broke by themselves, but had a very long labour followed by an emergency c-section. My sister-in-law is also now pregnant with twins. She is 35 weeks tomorrow. If she makes it to her 36 week doctor's appointment they are going to book her in for a c-section at 38 weeks. She has gestational diabetes so they don't want to take any risks. She is in a lot of pain with the swelling and can hardly walk properly. She has to walk around the house using crutches too. And when it is really bad my brother pushes her around in a wheelchair. I know that it feels like forever at the moment, but take heart. The pain will be gone soon when your wonderful babies enter the world. And all the waiting and pain and stress will all fade away! Good luck.

Oh honey I feel your pain!!! I had my boy/girl twins in August at 35 weeks. I was retaining so much fluid my goodness. I had a pressure all the time and because of it and preeclampsia I was placed on modified bedrest. It hurt when I walked it felt as if they were falling out...lol I was scheduled for an inducement on 8/31 because of twin A's growth restriction. He was 15% smaller than her. I went in that night and had them natural. Went in at 10:20pm on 8/25 and He was born at 10:45pm and She was born at 10:53pm. Looking back , I would do it all over again.. but this time with my husband here instead of Iraq.. Good Luck

Hi, I had my twins induced at 38 weeks. Would have liked a lot sooner as i had bad pelvic pain too but the Doc told me just to be paitent. I had them natural and Ive got to say it was an easier birth than with my daughter. 2hours, no dramas! Loved it! Good luck, they will come when there ready. My sister had her twins at 30 weeks and Im so glad I lasted to 38. Her girls were in hospital for 2 months!

This is super encouraging! I am 36 weeks with twins and was feeling silly for not being able to walk and debated using crutches! I have had 4 previous pregnancies and were all a breeze compared to this twin pregnancy! Thank you for posting!

I went 3 weeks early but only after threatening the doctors' life. He wanted me to wait and I wanted them to come out NOW. Hang in there. You know you're ready when you can't touch your hands together because your belly's in the way.

I had my girls at 35 wk on the day. I had been on bed rest since 28 wk with 2 hospitalizations for early contractions. At 32 wk, the goal was to just make it one more week and then one more week and so on. Once I hit 34 and knew the odds of a long NICU stay were a lot lessened (I'm a Peds nurse), I stopped taking my meds and started walking around our house. We went in for a routine perinate appointment and I had dialated to 4 (I was dialating about a cm. a week), so the doctor told me to meet him upstairs in an hour. We went up, I hadn't dialated anymore, so they were going to give me some fluids and send me home...then of course I dialtaed to 5 and he broke my water. We had a 7 lb. 4oz baby 4 hours of super easy labor and 1 hour of pushing later at 11:36 p.m. and an hour and 14 minutes later (on the next day) at 12:50 a.m. we had our second 6 lb. 2 oz. baby born. They were healthy and we went home two days later. I also let them sleep in the nursery at the hospital. I was VERY thankful that my husband and I made that choice. You need all the rest you can get before you get home and feel real exhaustion.

I went to exactly 37 weeks, I had the boys by way of C-section. That's only because they estimated Landon weighing about a pound more then Alexander and Landon was the one that would be coming 2nd, they didn't think the birth canal would have gotten big enough for him to go through naturally. And he also was sideways with his head on his brothers tummy. If it wasn't for that i think i would have made it to my due date. I didnt really have any problems with the pregnancy, we found out that i couldn't have any dairy products when i was at 2 months. As soon as we figured that out, I felt great! Not everyone is like that though, I'm a rare case from what i hear. Good luck, you will do fine.

had emergency c-section jacob twin at top was ready and was trying to make a break...haha! had c-section scheduled for 37 weeks... was having c/sec due to the positon of top twin .{.....would of like to try natural. as i had my eldest by Unassisted birth and it was great and a magical experience...but twins are different and evn at nearly three Jacob is the one who say when to go....even though they're faternal...

I feel your pain...I was in a wheel chair at the end of my prego. I started going ino labor at 30 weeks and meds to stop it until I was 36 weeks! I was a scheduled c-section also, but labor blew that out the window. As long as the twins are healthy inside you and you are healthy......let them continue to grow inside ya! Having small babies early is NO fun! Mine were 4pounds and 5pounds.....so tiny and alot of restless nights! By the time I had my twins, my hubby was pushing me around in a wheel chair....be thankful you can still walk. Best of Luck!

I was 37 weeks 6 days went I went into labor with my boy/girl twins. I eventually had a c-section, but I did try to deliver for 12 hours before I had the c-section. My goal was always to make it to 38 weeks, but by week 37 I was ready to deliver. My twins were 5lbs 9 oz and 6 lbs 9 oz and completely healthy. They went home with me 3 days later. You have made it a very long way and are to be congratulated on carrying your babes to term. Almost there and your babies will thank you for carrying them so long. If your babies are developed enough I don't know why your doctor is making you wait til week 39 if you are having so much pain. Talk to your doctor, if you aren't happy with your scheduled c-section date.

They were in the NICU for 10 days but looking at them now you would never know. They will be 2 in February. Good luck and God bless you and your family. Please Rest!!!

I had mine at 36 weeks, and they were healthy as could be! We only stayed in the hospital an extra day because I ended up having a C-Section (cords around BOTH of their necks, so I am glad we did), and probably because I had two older children waiting for us at home. I started having "labor pains" (real ones, but I will explain) at 32 weeks, was admitted to the hospital, where they found that I had a bladder infection. As soon as the antibiotic started working (a few hours) my pains stopped, and I carried them another 4 weeks!

I went into labor right at 36 wks. They were 5 lb 12 oz and 4 lb 10 oz, fraternal boys. Both came home with me at 2 days old, though my OB wanted me to stay an extra day due to the c/s (VBAC turned into a c/s when twin A turned breech during labor), but we were all healthy and ready to go by 2 days.

[deleted account]

I was induced and had a c-section at 37 weeks exactly. My girls weighed 5lbs 4oz and 4lbs 11oz. My little one had a bit of trouble in the beginning due to being stuck in my ribs and inhaling a bunch of amniotic fluid right before they got her out. After 4 hours of monitoring she was finally keeping her oxygen level up high enough for them to bring her to me. She was fine after that.... They'll be EIGHT next weekend! :)

Good for you that you've made it this long! I had preclamsia (sp) so they had to take my girls at 32 weeks. They were in NICU for 10 days with feeding and minor breathing problems but they were pretty healthy. They are now almost 5 and very healthy and bright. Most of my twin friends went between 30-35 weeks so you are doing very well. Good luck!

The average gestation for twins is 36 weeks. The chances of avoiding the NICU are good once you've reached 37 weeks especially if you're having girls. Weird, I know, but girls are statistically stronger/healthier than boys born early. The longer the better for your babies' health. Good luck!

Also, I totally recommend letting them sleep in the nursery at night. You'll need to recover fast and getting a few good nights rest will really help. I took my boys back every night at 9 and I got them back when I got up. Take advantage of the trained nurses!

My doctors said they would induce me after 37 weeks because I was HUGE and so uncomfortable, but I only made it to 36.1 weeks. They were 5 lbs and 6.3 lbs and totally healthy and beautiful! They spent no time in NICU and got to go home with me 5 days later (c-section).
I had to quit work at about 30 weeks because I was so uncomfortable. Plus I had high blood pressure bordering on preeclampsia and gestational diabetes. I spent my days laying on my couch reading, watching tv and doing a ton of sleeping.
My doctors said they consider 37 weeks full term with twins so they were fine with inducing me then. If you hit 37 weeks I would talk to your doctors about getting it done asap. Good luck!

My boys were recently born in September. 35 weeks to the day. I think that I could have gone the whole way because I had no complications and was still up and moving but my doctor gave me a pelvic exam that mornng and caused my water to break. Baby A was 5lbs. 12ozs, and Baby B was 5lbs. 5oz. They weren't in the NICU at all. We were all discharged two days later. I allowed my boys to be in the nursery at night because I was exhausted and knew that at home there would be no help and I had to heal from the surgery and medications.

I was induced at 36 wks.. like someone else said, no pain, didn't feel the contractions! no epidural either. Too many braxton hicks throughout pregnancy and I guess I was used to the "pain". Your pain that you are in now, will soon be over dear. I was just like you, couldn't do a thing and in pain much of the pregnancy. You're almost there, good luck!

So, I was given the option to have my c-sect. early; due to timing of events and layoffs that were coming I needed the insurance and opted to go early!

Both very healthy and quiet personalities (at the time!)

Little Bit 7lbs. 1 oz, Hoss 6lbs. 3oz.

They were in NICU for 4 days, and then intermidiate care nursury for 8 days. They didnt need oxygen or any other major support, and they were only in the incubator for 7 days. Good Luck!

I went to 37 weeks, 2 days and delivered by C-Section. My doctor started out in the beginning saying we were going to go a long as we could! After I made it to 32 weeks I went in for sonograms every week. At 32 weeks I started asking, "when are we going to deliver these babies? He would say, "lets go another week." Finally, at 36 weeks he said "How about next week?" (I had gained 80 lbs with my pregnancy) My twins were born weighing: Son, 7 lbs, 1 oz, daughter, 6 lbs 12 oz. ~ 13 lbs and 13 ozs of babies! They came to me right after they were born, perfectly healthy.

Wow. I don't think I could have made it 39 weeks. I got to 37 weeks which was the time my OB told me in the beginning was as far as I was going. Every doctor has a preference. I had a C-section as well. If you make it to 39 weeks then your babies will be healthier statistically the longer the better. My guys had to stay in the NICU for 10 days. Also depends on the type of twin pregnancy (fraternal, identical and if the identical share the same placenta and or amniotic sac).
