Hi, I have ten month old boy/girl twins and I am so sick of the way the phrase "double trouble" just rolls off the tongues of complete strangers! Does anyone have any advice on what is best to say in this situation without losing your temper?

Kristy,i think you are sooooo right they dont deserve an answer, unless they are gunna say something that makes sense, well i do the same i ignore the ignorant...they eventually go away,my twins will be 8 in march and i still get the stupidest comments all the time, i have now learned to just keep walking as though people of that ignorance dont exsist in my space..

My Girl/Boy twins are only 2 months old and I'm already sick of that statement, along with several others - the best one would be 'are they identical?' though. They look completely different (my daughter has heaps of hair and my son is almost bald for a start) and are always dressed in boy and girl colours with boy and girl coloured blankets etc, so I pretty much just ignore people now, or say 'yes' and keep walking. Just accept that some people are stupid! Comments like 'Double Trouble' 'wow, I bet you have your hands full' and 'were they planned' really don't derserve an answer anyway in my book.

Another one I heard was " why did you want to go and do that?"   Although I am a first time mom going from no kids to my wonderful boy/ girl twins was hard to get used to at first I wouldn't trade it for anything.   I just smile and say " No double the fun and twice the love"   One of the things that really gets to me too is  when people ask if my children are boys or girls when clearly my son is in a blue carseat and my daughter is in a pink car seat with respective blue and pink blankets.

My girls are now 3yrs & I always get "you have your hand full"...yes full of joy & I wouldn't change a minute...well maybe a bit more help. When I went for my 1st scan the radiographer said "I'm really sorry but you are carrying 2"...she also said sorry again as we left....good job it was a joy to find out & I just thought of her as a stupid, inconsiderate old c**.

I still also get are they twins.....ummm yes their identical & are dressed the same...so why ask such a stupid question....I now just smile ...yes they are....

I think it will still carry on for years to come as people are so fascinated & unless you have twins or more yourself, just don't get it....

I had it from the moment I found out I was pregnant with twins, the lady outside waiting in line for her scan said it to me and it continued by virtually everyone I told after that. There was one old lady on a bus one day who asked how long I had left to go and as I told her I had quite a while left and was just big because I was carrying twins she placed her hand on my belly and called them "miracle babies" which I thought was lovely.

I like to say  with a smile NOT double trouble ...DOUBLE the JOY, smiles, coos, first steps,etc... double blessed... Very Lucky!!!!  People that don't have multiples just don't understand that what they say can end up being offensive....It"s the mama bear that comes out of us to protect our babies, even from words of stangers!  You will or have also heard my fav. " Glad it's you and not me"  that one hurts me the most, I feel I was choosen to do this... I didn't ask for this and I am glad it's me and not them.  I feel special for our girls to be twins and yes we get some attention from it, I have learned to not stop for every person that wants to look at them, I smile and just keep moving! Call it rude but I don't have all day to let people stare at my kids and ask questions!  Of course the questions are all the same!  I think once they are older it won't be so bad, after all who doesn't want to see a baby yet alone two!
