Im 16 and have no history of twins in my family apart from my boyfriend he was supposed to be a twin but he got dissolved at 11 weeks and my bans cousins on my mum's side are twins, I conceived identical twin boys but lost them at 22 weeks in Feb and am wanting to try again in November what's the chances of me having twins again? I would love twins again! Ps, yes I may be young but im not supposed to be able to have kids as my ovaries dont produce eggs properly when I found out I was pregnant I was over the moon I've been with my boyfriend for three years and am soon to be engaged! I had to havs laser surgery at 18 weeks as one twin has severe growth restriction at 22 weeks the smaller twin passed away and I had to terminate my whole pregnancy because the larger twin was in danger and so was I im heart broken I had and have so much love for them! So yeah sorry about the huge paragraph just really want to know the chances :D xxxx

I thought i was going to have another set of twins after my set. I had 1 before my twins & they were a surprise! lol But then the hubby & i tried for our 4th & last baby & we got 1. so we got lucky. but my doc said its a very slim change i would of gotten twins again.

I FOUND IT HARDER TO CARRY THE SECOND SET OF TWINS HOWEVER I WAS 10 YEARS OLDER.. I'M SURE THAT MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE.

My first two kids where natural (faternal or maybe indentical) twin boys and I just found out two days ago that we are having natural identical twins this time. Also, we have no family history of twins and I am not of advanced maternal age. SO SUPRISE! But we are happy though!

I have two sets of twins back to back all natural all girls all identical... 8yrs apart. My chances were 75% with the 1st set being identical. Now I am at 90% after my 2nd set if I should go again (which I will not be). So once you've had a set your chances do increase throughtout the years. Hope that helped. :)

my twin sister had a set of twin boys a few years ago but sadly both died :( then 2 years later she had boy girl twins and they are identical and just 2 years ago she had twin boys again but only 1 survived :( and know she has 2 beautiful cheeky 4 year olds a beautiful 2 year old and a gorgeous boy/girl im not sure on the way and the doctor reckons they will also be twins

so i think yes once u have had twins they chances r higher although my 18 year old daughter had twin girls they so cheeky and then she had a boy so yea

and my twin bro (i said twin sis know twin bro cause were triplets) has 7 boys and 2 are identical twins, another 2 are fraternal twins and 1 was a twin but sadly the other 1 chocked on the umbilical cord when the mum was giving birth and the other 2 are just singletons and the ages r 19, 18, 18, 17, 17, 15 and 14 and the 1 who passed away would of been 15 now

I think it would be great to have another set of twins and am excited to try for another in a few years and see what happens. I don't have any known family history, conceived at 27 and never used fertility drugs so who knows?! I was sitting with family the other day and they were talking about twins and they said "well good thing you are done","Never again, right?!". I said calmly" I would love another set of twins but whatever God blesses me with" They all looked at me blankly like I was crazy or psychotic, LOL. Congrats to every multiple mom and moms of multiple multiples what a BLESSING!

I hear a few people on this post saying their Doctor told them they release two eggs EVERY ovulation. I was just curious as to how they confirm this, assuming hormone levels or something must confirm this anyways.....of course multiple multiples is a big hint but confirmation with lab results or something?

well Angie, my hubby still trying to convience me that we need a little girl. I told him we could end up with another set of boys, one never knows.. Im 37 as well and also have lots of love to give, but Im tired. My boys still dont sleep through the night, and if we go for another one I will never sleep again!!!LOL... good luck, keep us updated.. I have 2 sets of fraternal twin boys all most 17years apart. I release 2 eggs a month. Call me crazy but we are trying for a little girl. I know my chances are high. But I'm 37 & have lots of love to give.

so Donnelle do you already have a boy? I have a 9 year old boy and fraternal 15 month old boys as well. chances go up with age for identical not fraternal thats just in your genes, but yes once you have a set of FRATERNAL more than likely you will have multiples again because its in your genes...

I think about this all the time. I am only 23 years old and am 30 weeks pregnant with twin boys. They haven't been able to tell yet whether they are identical or fraternal. I have heard that once you have multiples, your chances of having another set go up. Plus, your chances go up with age. And fraternal twins run in my family. We get a set every generation. So all these factors together make me not want anymore kids, since I already have a 2 year old boy, and I don't know if I could do another set of twins.. If I do have more, I want to wait til all the other kids are in school. But yeah, it's frustrating. I would absolutely love to have a little girl one day. But that's the thing, I only want one. lol

I have a 9 year old, 5 year old and 2 year old id twins - all girls, all concieved naturally. We were told by my ob that its 80% chance of concieving another multiple birth and not just twins.
At my 6 week checkup after the twins were born and i was breast feeding them both and my ob told me i was about to ovulate again. I was in fairy land, twins were still in hospital and everything was up in the air as they came early so i thought my cycle would be all over the shop but to ovulate that quick dumbfounded me.

My doctor told me that there was a 90% chance of having twins after our first set 2 years ago. So when we found out we were pregnant with our 5th child, we panicked!! Well, the good Lord smiled upon us and we were blessed with a single birth, a daughter, born on the twins 2nd birthday.
However, my best friend was pregnant with twin girls, unfortunately, she lost them in the 2nd trimester, but two years later, she had twin girls...So, I guess its kind of hard to call...

I was told that when you have fraternal your chances are higher, because its in your genes!! we have a 9 year old boy and 15 month old fraternal twin boys, so when hubby said wanna try for the girl I said, I dont think so.... lol..

Hi I have 2 sets of identicial twins and both were concieved naturally in fact i was told i was the only one they could find with the two different types of identical twins. I was also told if i were to get pregnant again my chances of having another set would be probable.

I am an identical twin! I had identical twin girls in 2005,no fertilization, all natural, from god! My GYN doctor kept saying,"we see only one and we hear one heartbeat." I was huge! (The twin gene is on my mom's side and has never skipped a generation, she always said either my brother or my twin sister, or myself would have twins). I knew from 2 months along there were twins in me. My doctor said I had less than a 1% change of having twins as identical twins don't have the gene for having twins, only fraternal twins carry the trait. I guess I was in the less than 1%. He said now that I had a set, my chances grew to over 50% for having a second set. I had already had a one year old when my twins were born and now the chance of having a second set of twins in the future, I ended up having my tubes tied and daddy fixed to for double safety!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love all my girls, they are my angels, but I could not imagine 5 children under the age of 3. You are correct in the %, it does double. By the way, if you had fraternal twins, then the gene is somewhere on your side. The Fraternal gene is passed on the female side, and the fraternal percent is 60%. I did a research paper on the twin gene for curiousity in 2008 to see how rare it was for me to have twins. What I did was unheard of, or very very rare. Sounds to me you have a great chance of having a second set! Which I might ad, every child is definitely a blessing.

i have a 12 year old daughter, a set of fraternal twin boys aged 7 and a baby boy of 1. i was so scared the last pregnancy would be a twin pregnancy and was so relieved that it wasnt. even at 9 months my bump seemed so small compared to my bump with the twins (7lb and 6lb) and i felt so well after giving birth. One baby seems so easy!

Although the plus side of twins is that my boys are great friends and always have each other. so they always have someone to play with. i find my twins now at 7 are easier than when my daughter was 7 because she was always bored if she had no one to play with.

I last posted in 2009 that my husband and I were afraid to try again because we had 2 sets of twins, all girls and then decided we were done in 2011. I had my tubes tied and became pregnant after only 1 month. Single birth this time but also blessed with a boy.



Everyone tells me it was meant to be. ;) Let's hope the second tubal worked, my boy is 4 1/2 months old and no period yet. :(

I have a set of fraternal twin boys. I had a singleton boy almost exactly 3 years later. But, I was more than prepared for the possibility of twins again. I would love to try for a fourth but am not willing to have 5, so I think that's it for us...



You need to be prepared for the possibility that you could have twins again. if you don't feel you could handle it, then I would recommend not trying. Good luck!

I have 3yr old fraternal twins naturally and am currently pregnant with my second set of twins, naturally. This is only my second pregnancy. I have been told so many didnt stats on having 2 sets of fraternal twins its not even funny. I am thinking it is pretty rare though.. My OB doctor told him I am his first patient to have two set of twins.



So basically, I believe you might have a high chance of having twins then a random pregnant lady next to you.. its still very unlikely.

u have a higher chance of concieving fratenal twins again after havin fratenal twins prior, i had 3 children then a set of fraternal twins 2 and a half yr ago and am now expecting a singleton, which i keep thinking is going to be so easy lol.i personally would have loved to have twins again as i enjoyed having my last set so much but i also know how much more love and 1 to 1 time ill get with this baby as he is the only 1 :)

OMG! After reading all these posts my mind is finally made up....i won't b trying again! i have 8 month old identical twin boys & i was serously unwell after the birth due 2 pre-eclampsia, i haemmorraged & then my ureter was damaged! the boys were healthy but spent 2 wks in special care & were ready 4 home b4 me but all of us went home after 3 wks but i still had health issues! my OB says that the chances of twins again r slim but after reading these posts i will not tempt fate for fear i go thru the same again! feel so blessed tae b here the now with 2 gorgeous boys

I have a set of identical twin boys, who just turned 3 years old, and were a total surprise to my husband and I! We'd been trying for 2 years without success and once we did get pregnant, sadly we had a miscarriage. So we tried IUI, without any fertility medications and it worked on the 1st try! We found out we were pregnant with twins at our 8 week ultrasound and our Dr. was super surprised! She told us to expect the babies to be fraternal due to my "advanced maternal age" (all of 35) where I'd ovulated more than 1 egg. So after our boys were born, we all thought something was weird because they looked super-identical! We did a DNA swab test and found out they are in fact identical. Our Dr. says that having identical twins is a rare occurence, but it is possible to have another set, identical or fraternal. My husband and I are now looking to do IUI again in the fall and hope we'll be blessed with another healthy baby...although my husband is really nervous of having twins again! Our Dr. has reassured us that although we're at a higher 'risk' for a 2nd mutliple pregnancy, she feels as I do that we're strong and loving and if it happens again, how amazing would that be? I had a set of fraternal twins six years ago, my husband and I wanted more children and we had a single pregnancy four years ago. We just recently decided to try again for one more and found out that we were pregnant with triplets but lost one at seven weeks along. So I am currently pregnant with fraternal twins agian. I heard that once you have twins once your chances increase significantly.

I got pregnant with my almost 3 year old twin girls (faternal) when I was 25. I also have a family history of twins. I was religiously on the pill when I got pregnant. After the girls were born, we discussed the possibilty of having another set of twins or triplets. (My grandmother is an identical and mine are faternal.) My doctor told us that the possiblity of either was the same. We have four girls right now including my two stepdaughters. I am pretty sure that if we try and have another baby anytime soon my husband and my ongoing joke will come true...God will either give us another girl or laugh and give us three boys. Either way jokes on us. ;-)

It can happen. I misscarried twins 6 years ago and i have 2 year old twins girls now. I get asked all the time if i will go back for more and i say no way! Twins are great but it's hard work. I'd like to enjoy my little girls now that the hardest part is over.

Oh my word, you girls have scared me. My husband and I are currently trying for another baby, we already have b/g twins who will be 2 next month and the thought of having twins again terrifies me. My house, car, and especially me, couldn't cope with 4 children. There is a family history of twins, mine were conceived naturally and I am now 30 - all the things against me!!!! My husband doesn't mind either way but I don't know what I would do if we had another set of twins

I had the first set of fraternal twins in my family... but there are at least 15 sets of identical twins on my moms side from my generation up to my mom's aunt's generation... LOTS of twins! But, they've all been identical, up until mine... And what do you know, my cousin had b/g twins, like me, 3 months after I did!
Side note, I conceived my twins on my 22nd birthday, using no fertility (was actually on birth control...), and weighed about 120lbs. Which means I did not meet age, weight, or fertility drug risk factors... and twins TECHNICALLY didn't run in my family, since they were ALL identical girls!
I SO want another baby, but my husband is afraid to get another set of twins... I'm all for it, one way or the other!

I think it depends on how old you are as well. You have a higher chance of twin pregnancy the older you get and then again if you have already had a set. I had a single birth after my fraternal twins but I was scared for the first three monthes as very large (he was born 11.3pds after all that room to move). They are growing up now so would be very, very scared if I fell pregnant again

hmm makes u wonder doesnt it.....my father is an identical twin and i ended up with identical twin girls first pregnancy... finding out i was pregnant was shock enough but to find out it was twins....i am so scared to get pregnant again as i too have heard many people haivng 2 sets of twins

i would love to have a house full of kids but my husband is terrified to try to have another because of the raised chances of it being multiples again. I think a singleton would be cake but just don't know if i am the gambling type. my b/g twins just turned 4 and i am so happy to be done with diapers, bed wetting, sippy cups, etc that i am conflicted over having more or just being content as we are. the world is designed for 4 in a family, so i guess that means if i go for 1 more, i got to go on up to 4 more :)

I think that your chances of having twins again are higher than someone else, but I don't see that many parents that have more than one set of twins. I have a single, twins, and then I got pregnant with another single but lost her at 18 weeks. Good luck if you decide to try for another one!
