Has anyone tried EC (Elimination Communication) with twins?

I am wondering if any mom's have tried Elimination Communication (Natural Infant Hygiene or Potty Whispering...whatever you choose to call it) where the infant does not wear diapers as a precursor to potty training. The idea is to become in-tune with your baby's elimination patterns so you can proactively put them on the potty when they need to go. I have read that some people actually start this before the baby can even hold its had up! This technique is supposed to potty train infants by 18 months or even earlier. See site for more info- http://www.diaperfreebaby.org

I use cloth diapers during the day at home. My girls are 11 months and I was wondering what is a good age to start going diaper-less (even if it is just at home and during the day)? Is there a reason NOT to do this with twins? Seems like a lot of work. Please share your experiences! I would love to hear from you! Thanks.

Aicha, what methods did you use to get her potty trained?

my daughter is a year old and she tells me when she has to pee she has her own potty and has been using it regularly since she was 9 1/2 months old

Hmmm? Am starting to think EC is really not for me. Still am considering potty training earlier than the average age here in the West. At least try to get them out of diapers during the day... FULL potty training including bedtime is another matter. I have read from numerous sources that it is easier to toilet train a child when she is 18-20 months old (but for boys it is better to wait even longer since they often lack the necessary language and fine motor skills). This time frame is supposed to be easier because of the child wanting to please his/her parents. Of course I may change my mind depending where my girls are developmentally at that time. We'll see. I might just be dreaming... certainly wouldn't be my first misconception about raising children! LOL!

On a side note I find it very interesting that most of the world has their babies potty trained by 18 months or by 24 months the very latest. Seems like potty training might be a cultural thing. Since here in the west we tend to be so "child focussed" I guess it shouldn't come as a surprise.

waiting to potty train until they can control it and tell me 24/7..as a therapist I know most kids are not ready to fully be potty trained no accidents until closer to 2.5 - 3, I do know approximatly when they go, but I feel like if I put them on the potty its training me not them lol!....the older they are I have heard the less time you actually spend on training..but each kid is different so if yours can do it , go for it!..we did cloth diapers and everyone thought we were crazy, but it was a great decsion.

I haven't tried it...it sounds interesteing but...my boys were 2 in June, and they are ALMOST potty trained. I went and bought regular toddler underwear for them, and grant it, they do still have accidents (rarely) but the only time they wear a diaper is nap time and bed time (we'll work on that later). I don't think I would have been able to do EC...not with 2. Good Luck with whatever you decide!

I've heard of it, too, but especially with twins - oy vei. I wouldn't have minded trying it with a singleton, but I just don't think personally I could handle it with our girls.

I am not sure if it is for me either... Am really curious what mom's who have tried it have to say.

I have heard of moms who did it, and thought of doing it... but never had the courage...
