Have you had a hidden twin on ultrasound

Was just looking back at this post and just wanted to annouce that I DID indeed have only 1 baby and she is my perfectly healthy now 20 month old Annabelle Jayde! The twins just turned 3 in February so they are exactly 18months apart and all get along GREAT together so for the comments above about how far apart to have kids, I think it ended up working great. Honestly, I have not found it any harder than I can imagine only the twins being. (She was a 9 pounder too at 1 week early-drastically different than my 6 pounder twins!) Anyways, it was just interesting looking back at this comment and remembering my feelings (fears) at first finding out about being pregnant with her! I cannot imagine my life without my little BelleBelle!

IIs it.common for you to have one ultrasound and it show twins clear as day and the next time only show one, the second one hiding. I'm 12weeks and three days ago the doctor did an ultrasound sound two babys clear as day in two different sacs, and today I had the ultrasound for disorders testing and she only saw one baby, I'm co.fused she said to.go with the doctos.ultrasound. has.anyone experiences anything like this.

Yes. I went to the (highly respected) Dr. at top facility when I was about 6 weeks 6 days. The Dr. stated "there is definitely only one in there." We saw one baby. We heard one heartbeat. Because I had a previous miscarriage and over 35, she wanted to see me a few weeks later. I went in at 9 weeks, 6 days (early Nov.'11). This time she said "there are definitely two babies in there --identical." Hubby and I were shocked but happy. It still happens today.

my mother is a twin here twin sister has twin boys my boyfriend is a twin and my ultrasound att 5w 4 d showed one baby they didnt do transvaginal and when i look at the ultra sound from 5 wks i swear its two in one sac but i cant really tell so im left guessing till next ultrasound to find out if i have a hidden twin

Thanks Kristy that makes me feel better I really would like twins I of course will be happy with just one too. I guess I have to wait to find out if there's a hidden twin....

Danielle, I never had HCG levels done with any of my three pregnancies, although I would like to know what it was with my twins. They were pregnancy # 4 ( 1 miscarriage) and I was showing at 8 weeks with them. I have two friends with twins that were missed on early ultrasounds. First friend had her scan at 7 weeks, and they said one baby, then they saw her twins at the 12 week scan. Second friend didn't know it was twins until 22 weeks. She went on to have them at 25 weeks so she didn't have long to get used to the idea! Time will tell if you're having twins or not.

I am pregnant for the third time I have 1 two year old son and I had a miscarriage the 16th of March and now I'm pregnant again. I have had this strong feeling I'm pregnant with twins. At 4 weeks my hcg level was 587 and I'm already showing. They thought that I was 7 weeks 1 day along and today when I had an ultrasound they changed that to only 6 weeks 1 day. They said they only seen 1 baby on the ultrasound but I still have a feeling there is two. Twins run on my moms side of the family.

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether or not I could have a hidden twin?

i didnt know i was having twins till i was 7 months pregnant. i found out on the 17th of oct 2008 and i gave birth 08th dec2008 i only had 1 scan at 12 or 13 weeks it was 17 july and i only had 1 baby on the scan, i had a healthy pregnancy (thank god ) and it was only that my blood results were very low in iron and they couldnt understand even after been told to take 2 it was so low . in october then i had a scan and they told me there was a hidden twin on the ultra sound i nearly passed out from the fright

Michelle, my twins just turned 1 two weeks ago (February 10th) and I am 3 1/2 months pregnant. Was freaked out when i first found out about this little #3 but now I am ecstatic! Can't tell you how hard/easy yet but I can tell you that My sister has 3 babies under 2 1/2 (no twins) and she loves it! I figured if she can do that then mine won't be impossible! When you are ready you will know! GL!

Hi, I'm glad you have been reassured that it's one! I am thinking of having more now (mine are nearly 3 years old) but a little nervous it may be twins again. I love having twins, but one would be nice next time!!!! I found out I was having twins at 7.5 weeks as I had HG (severe sickness) and they were both clearly vissable. I was told at 16 weeks that I had lost one of them-I hadn't-one was hiding as he was quite high up (my twins were transverse and one above the other, not side by side).

I found out i was hvaing twins at 3 weeks!! crazy hey. they just stuck out.. Have any of you decided on when or what a good time gap is to leave before thinking about another baby.. My boys are only 6 months so im not thinking at all, i just dont want to leave it years. anyone have twins ad then a singular and find it too hard?

Well, I just had my 13 week ultrasound last week and indeed there is only one!!!!!!! That's 3 ultrasound's now (1 at 7 weeks, 1 at 8 weeks and 1 at 13 weeks) so I am CERTAIN we are only having one! (Praise Jesus!) (not that a second set wouldn't be great...but you all understand I am sure!) :) thank you everyone for your comments/input on the hidden twin ultrasound topic!

Yes it is true at 7 weeks I was told there might be twins but I had to come back at 9 weeks to make sure. Well, at 9 weeks they were totally sure it was twins the two sacs were very visable, but when they told me at 7 weeks that one might be hidding I kind of knew they was two. Good luck and enjoy

My first ultrasound was at 8 weeks 6 days and we only saw one baby. Turns out there was a hidden twin because at 17 weeks we found 2 babies!

When I was 13 weeks pregnant I finally got to see a doctor (military insurance!) When I went in the first thing I said was "please check for two heartbeats." Because my entire life I'd always wanted twins. Well the doctor (if that's what you want to call him) said he only heard one. I did my bloodwork to check for diseases in the babies and the test for Spina Bifida came back elevated. So of course I was freaking out and preparing for a baby with a handicap. When I got to see the doctor again it was a week later, and he did an ultrasound in which he only saw one baby. Two days later I went to go see an ultrasound tech to have her check me out, and the first thing she screamed was "I DON'T KNOW HOW HE DIDN'T SEE THIS!" It was very clear on the screen two little heads. Needless to say I dropped that doctor!!! And now I have my beautiful 11 month old boy and girl.

I had an external and an intrauterine ultra sound at 7 weeks & 2 days due to bleeding. I asked if there were twins...just a strange hunch. The tech said no and she had looked very carefully because I had asked (my dad is a twin, my great-grandma was a twin, dh's dad is a twin and I was in my 30's & alread had 4 kids which increased the likelihood I might have twins). So I got bigger & bigger. At around 4.5 months I had another ultrasound to make sure the placenta had healed back onto the uterus. It had and that is when we discovered there WERE hidden twins. My twins are now 9!!

I was told i was only having 1 baby at my 6,12 and 18 week scan, but i was huge so i pleeded with my doctor for another scan and he said no there is only one baby i said it must be going to be a really big baby, he it was of average size so i asked him if he could tell me what the sex was and he said its a boy then he said hang on no its a girl i was really confused, he left to go and get someone else to look at scan and it was only then that they discovered i was having twins! a boy and a girl!! she was a bit smaller than him and tucked right in behind him, to this day i am always searching for her she just loves to play hid and seek..

HI I HAD TWINS THAT ARE 7 NOW ,WHEN I WAS FIRST DIAGNOSED OF HAVING TWINS I WAS 4MONTHS GONE ONE WAS HIDDEN BEHIND THE OTHER SO IT IS VERY POSSIBLE ONE COULD BE HIDING.WAS YOU SICK ATALL WITH THE LAST SET BECAUSE YOU ALWAYS NO WHEN THERES TWO AS YOUR HORMONES ARE HIGHER AND YOUR SICK MORE .

I had my first (vaginal) ultra sound at 6 weeks and they could very clearly see two sacs... Was your first ultra sound an abdominal or vaginal?

It can happen. My sister had a baby a few years ago, and they could hear two heartbeats (obviously different) throughout the whole pregnancy. Both were quite fast and similar, but not an echo. They couldn't see two babies though, only one. They did several extra ultrasounds trying to find the other baby, and up until the day she delivered said that although they thought there were two, they weren't sure, and it was very possible one was just overlapping the other perfectly the entire time. She ended up having one baby, and the extra heartbeat was hers! We have genetic tachycardia the doctor forgot about so heart rate is quite fast, and even faster when pregnant (180s).
