get a wireless keyboard and you can hide it on the shelf or in the drawer. Or move the computer to another room where they don't spend us much time, or put a latch lock on the top of the door and lock it up. You can turn off your computer when you are not using it. If you have windows you can lock the screen, log out without shutting down your computer. I am sorry if you were looking for ideas on how to keep your kids away from it but the best solution is prevention as kids are exploring and whatever is in front of them they will check it out. Buttons are wonderful especially when things happen after they press them... who can resist? Give them toys with buttons. There are a ton of "my first laptop" type toys. My kids loved them and I liked that they could learn to control the mouse with something that was break proof. They also practiced shapes and letters and all kinds of exercises when I did not have the time to do that.
You can also try to freecycle a computer for them if the adult toys are much more interesting and they won't touch the kid toys or computers. find your location on www.freecycle.org

My husband picked up a spare keyboard that belonged to the kids. We taught them that they were aloud to use theirs but not ours. We eventually picked up one of the computer toys for kids their age so it did something when they pushed the buttons...

Do you have an old keyboard and mouse that they can play with. We give our girls (2yr old twin girls) extra ones we have laying around and they are happy banging on those. Otherwise, we had to block off our computer room from them because there is too much stuff out there that is breakable.

Oh yeah, and the spare mouse and keyboard of their own? BRILLIANT idea. My boys love playing on "their" computer while mommy is working on hers. One of my sons even says, "I'm working," when he's "typing" on his computer. Too cute.
We found "real" laptops for kids (21mo b/g) at Target ($20) over the holidays and bought one for each of the twinnies. They are bi-lingual (English/Spanish) and have tons of games, some where they only have to push a button and it spells words, does math, etc. When mommy and daddy need to be on our computer, they can get theirs and play too!! This seems to help us most days. We also have a spare keyboard and mouse ready just in case it doesn't - lol

I have a wireless mouse and keyboard. I take those away when I am not using the computer. Then there is really nothing for them to "mess" with. Mine are also obsessed with the TV remote. I have to put that up and out of reach too. Annoying, but necessary.

1) got them a spare keyboard and mouse to play with...works on some days,
2) try to stay off the computer as much as possible during their awaken hours ...
3) move working keyboard and mouse out of reach
4) we sometimes watch their photos and videos together ..I use that time to ''teach'' them how to do it and what, when to click..

HA HA I'm just glad that we are not the only ones who have overly techie little ones. We tried giving ours the old mouse, their own little game things, and the big people toys are always better. We take away the chair from the PC, and I keep my laptop put up unless I'm using it. You can always make it where your computer goes into sleep mode when not in use after 5 minutes/close it, and change the settings to where you have to use a password to use it after it falls asleep. You can also tell it to go to sleep in the start menu as if you were shutting it off. That is what we have resorted to with our PC that can't be just simply taken out of reach.

my 2 yrold twins and my 3 yr old do that too, i put my mouse up on my fridge when i'm not on it and turn off my power cords / 6way what ever ya call it, it's the only thing that's keeps them from doing it = oh, and i happened to have a couple old keyboards that i cut the cords off of and let them play with those so they now leave my keyboard alone.
