Just curious, how far along were you when you found out you were having twins? My husband and I had the first ultrasound at 6 weeks and specifically asked if we were having twins because they run in my family nad the doctor said there was just one. At 11 weeks we had a second ultrasound because we had a new doctor and the ultrasound stll showed one although it was a really quick one and she had no reason to look for a second baby. Then at our 21 week appt. to find out the sex a third doctor who does the 3D ultrasounds flicked on the machine and said "well it's twins" and we were shocked. I told myself not to get too excited b/c I thought he was joking, but he wasn't and we were thrilled! I just wondered if anyone else had a similar situation.

I found out at 18 weeks during an ultrasound. We were sent to someone who specialized in high risk pregnancies because my HCG levels were high which they said meant I was either having twins or there might be a problem with the baby. I knew it was twins because when I took the pregnancy test it lit up immediately and I was in maternity clothes by 2 months. I also felt movement at 13 weeks and hadn't felt that until 18 weeks with my first pregnancy. The moment they put the ultrasound instrument on my belly it was quite clear when there were 2 heads moving in seperate directions. I thought my husband was going to faint!

Cynthia Breland- I found out at 19 weeks almost the same as you. People think it is crazy we didn't know till then but that's how it worked out. Some weird way I am glad I didn't know till then, less time to worry about all that could go wrong I guess and what a surprise!

I was 12 weeks when I found out. It was funny, I had my first appointment with my OB-GYN that day and when he found a heartbeat I asked him to listen for a second because my sister had twins and they only heard one heartbeat but found out on an ultrasound later there were twins and I had a lot of people telling me I was having twins because of how much I was showing. He just laughed at me but I had an ultrasound after he did his exam and there were twins! They knew right away they were fraternal and at 19 weeks I found out I was having a boy and a girl, and we had a feeling there was one of each from the get-go. I already started buying clothes for each before we found out the sexes for sure :-) Oh, and my twins ended up being born 3 days before my sister's identical boys turned 12.

I was 6 weeks pregnant when I found out that I was having twins. Having said that though, I conceived while using birth control, and didn't believe I could be pregnant. My 3 year old daughter kissed me on the belly one morning and said "Hello babies" I explained to her that I wasn't having any more babies and she replied with "yes! 2 babies!" I did a test the next morning and lo and behold it was positive! I should have been a little wary as when I did the test i would have conceived no more that a week previous and wasn't due for a period for 15 days. The first words out of my mouth when I seen those 2 little flickers on the monitor were "Abigail was right!"

I found out I was pregnant with twins at 13w2d. My OB only heard one heart beat on the Doppler when he did the ultrasound exam he discovered there were two babies in there. He said C...O...N...G...R...A...T...W...O...L...A...T...I...O...N...S!!! He turned the monitor and I couldn't believe my eyes! Now I know why I was starving every time after consuming large portion meals and the rapid weight gain every week. Can't wait to hold my munchkins what a surprise they will be come December 4th.

i was 6 weeks and 6 days. i did a home preg test and my mother in law was told a few weeks later i was pregnant. she automatically jinxed me and said i bet u have twins at my scan it was confirmed. there were twins. it took me an hour and a half to ring my partner and tell him coz i couldnt speak for so long. my mother in law was next to have a call and she laughed for like half an hour before sayin i told u so. still waiting to find the sexes out. but hopefully fingers crossed at the next scan we will know. now im used to the idea of having twins its kind of exciting. bit worrieds as im still only young with a 5 yr old already. but roll on july when the new bubs come. it will surely be a new learning curve. cant wait.

WRONG!!!! lol. i thought that i would be so sad if i really was having twins, but they are now 5 months old and i couldnt be happier!!! my friend ( who has 3 sets of twins) said something to me i will never forget! she said God only gives twins to people he knows could handle it! that is why not everyone has twins!!! so true!!!!!

I felt like I knew this pregnancy was different from the moment I peed on the stick! We only tried for two months and we were leaving for New York City for our 1st visit ever. The PG test was positive that morning and I was nauseous shortly after that for about three months. While in NY, I barely ate anything - dry bread sticks and water - ugh! But I gained 8 lbs in that five day period!!! Then I had another kidney stone attack and my doctor did an ultrasound - @ about 8 weeks. I couldn't believe it AND neither could my husband!! The boys will turn 11 years old on 2/12.

I knew at 16 or 17 weeks, from the movement I felt, but I didn't say anything to anyone. It was confirmed at 20 weeks, when my doctor did the first ultrasound.

I was 18 weeks along. We almost didn't find out. At the end of my scan the Tech wanted another picture of the head. As she was scanning a second circle popped up, I thought my husband was going to flip. The tech would not tell us what the second circle was until she got her supervisor because this was her first scan on her own. 12 years later they are doing great.

I had an ultrasound done at about 8 weeks because we thought I was having a miscarriage ( I had just had one before I got pregnant again) and the tech left the room saying she needed to go get another person to look at the ultrasound. at first she wouldn't tell me why because she said it was up to the doctor, but I was in tears thinking my baby had died......next thing you kn ow she is telling me that they are BOTh fine. that is how I found out.

I was about 16 wks when I found out that it was twins. My paternal grandfather's brother had 2 or 3 sets(18 children)of twins. The ultrasound tech informed me that even if that were not the case, they have to start somewhere. Imagine where I thought that they should start. LOL

At my 20 week ultrasound. I went without my husband and as soon as she placed the wand on my belly I swore I saw two heads. She removed it really quickly, adjusted a few things and the did it again. "Hmm, there's two of them," She said. "Excuse me?" "Yep, Twins!" I couldn't think. I called my husband and he thought I was kidding. Everyone in our family was shocked and excited. I was a little scared at first. I always thought it would be fun to have twins, but at this point, my son had just turned 1 and the thought of two little ones was already stressing me out- now there would be 3 under two?!?!? The identical boys were born 6 weeks early, but happy and healthy. Joshua was 4 lbs 5 ozs and Jason was 4lbs 12 ozs. They are such a blessing in our life!

I also had an ultra sound at 6 weeks because of sign of a miscarriage and they only saw 1 baby. Had another at 8 weeks and to our surprise there were 2 babies. Very shocked about the whole thing!!! My husband was standing there watching and good thing he had a wall to lean on or he would have fallen right over!! My twins are fraternal boy/girl and there are no twins on my side so very surprised!!!

I had my first scan at 8 weeks and then we saw it was twins. At 13 weeks we found out that Christiaan will be a boy with Down sindrome. Elana and Christiaan is now 2 years and 7 months and were born 6 weeks prem.

I had an ultra sound at 10 weeks to confirm pregnancy. The nurse just calmly stated, "Well, there's one, and here's another one." I was so shocked I almost passed out lying down. My sister had to sit down real quick lol. We had no idea twins were in our family but when I told my dad he was just like "well, I guess they do run in our family" Thanks for warning us dad!!

The next day I was cramping/bleeding and went into the er for an US and they showed us the two heartbeats!! My heart sunk into my stomach I was so excited! Now I have 10mo old boy girl twins:):)

I was 7 weeks and never more surprised in all my life. I don't have twins in my family and never expected to have them myself. I laugh that I started crying when the doctor told me I was having twins and haven't stopped since. That was 9 years ago.

[deleted account]

I was 7 weeks pregnant when I found out we were having twins. I had had some spotting & my OB had me come in for a vaginal ultrasound just to make sure everything was o.k. We just wanted to hear that our baby was fine....but what we heard was the technician saying "Oh! What's this????" and pointing to the screen. When I saw the 2 sacs I just couldn't believe it! My husband just laughed hysterically b/c he had joked while we were trying that we'd have twins. But I never dreamed that we really would...I didn't even know they ran in our families...We found out they were both boys around 14 weeks. They're 3 now & such a blessing!

We found out at our first ultrasound at 7 weeks, but my husband wasn't surprised as we had done IVF. I, on the other hand, was in shock. We could see from the screen they were fraternal. Didn't find out genders until they were born (one of each), and they are now 3.5 years old.

I found out at my first ultrasound to see what the sex was 22 1/2weeks. The guy had me turning this way and that way...I finally said if you can't tell what it is don't worry, just say there is one in there and we are good to go! I said that in a smarty pants way since I never dreamed that there would be 2! He said well I am looking at 2 heads I said NO SERIOUSLY NO JOKING! He said yes I am then when I started to cry he looked at me and said "YOU REALLY DIDNT HAVE A CLUE?" UMMM NOOOO! I yelled, then I said now be serious with me he flipped the screen around and said well I was going to wait until all of the measurments were done but yeah this is a boy and 99% sure this is a girl! So I cried and cried! My husband was on the road when I found out and just like when I found out I was pregnant and freaked I called him and couldnt say the words my friend had to tell him. She said do I need to call him and tell him you are having twins? I did that one myself and prayed he wouldnt wreck the truck! But we are happy as can be with the Twins!!

I didn't know it was twins until 22 weeks (at my second ultrasound). The first ultrasound, the doctor only saw one baby, and only heard one heartbeat. Come 22 weeks when I went to find out the sex, the u/s tech turned on the screen for like 15 seconds and shut it off real quick, me & my mom & my sister were wondering what was going on and then the u/s tech was like, "Uh..did the doctors in Virginia tell you that you were having one or two babies?" and I was like, "...one..." and then she was like, "Well, there's definately two in here." I was speechless. But that was the funniest (i know that's not a word) moment of my pregnancy, lol.

I suspected immediately as I wore regular clothes until the sixth month of my previous two pregnancies but the morning after the positive result I had to dig out maternity jeans as I already had a bump. Scan confirmed a week later. Doc asked if I was surprised and I said no, but I knew a lot of people who would be! Later, a week before they were born, an inexperienced young doc palpated my bump and announced it was triplets! He was wrong, he had confused a head with a bottom but it was a shock for a couple of hours! They are almost 26 now so survival is possible!

I was 12 weeks along, at my first ultrasound. I was completely shocked, but looking back I did have signs. One was when my Dr. first did a pregnancy test and said, "Congratulations. You're very pregnant." Another was that I always called the baby Rosebud, and one night had a dream featuring the baby, whose name was Snowflake! I also started showing pretty quickly and was in maternity pants full time at about 11 weeks. I just dismissed all of these things and didn't think much about them, but there was no mistaking it when the ultrasound technician said, "Hey, there's another one!"

I found out when I was about 11 weeks. I had started bleeding. I was thinking miscarriage. So the following morning, I called the doctor to get an appt. I go to the appt. and the doctor couldn't find a heartbeat, but said that didn't necessarily mean anything, but that the baby could still be to low to hear a heartbeat and sent me for an ultrasound. Thats when I found out that there were two babies and heard both heartbeats.

We were originally told we were only having one....but that was at four weeks, and at 6 we were told it was "at least two" (which had me having flashes to John and Kate!). Anyway, turned out to be "just" two, and they are now 7 months bundles of fun. Oddly enough, when we were told it was a singleton, I didn't get that "that seems right" feeling I got when they told us it was twins. I also just "felt" it was a boy and girl, and that's what we had. I had had a conversation with my mom just a few months before we concieved talking about how wouldn't it be nice to have boy/girl twins =) LOVE LOVE LOVE having twins.
