How long were your twins in the NICU?

Mine were born at 32 weeks, and stayed in the NICU for 17 days.



You'd never know it to look at them now -- they are juniors in high school and both my son and my daughter are taller than I am!

We were fortunate since ours were only in for 10 days. The only problem they had were eating from a bottle. Once they got that down we brought them home. I met one mom who had a baby in June and he was still in the NICU in Aug. That would be hard.

my daughters were born at 33+1 wks.they both weighed 3lb 14oz. they were in intensive care for 1 week and then in the special care unit for 10 days. they had problems with their breathing and one was on cpap.they also had difficulty with eatin,which meant it took a while for them to put weight on. althou they did a fantastic job there, it does make you think hard about wantin any more children. as another lady said you wouldnt wish your worst enemy goin thru what we have.but we have to be greatful to still have our lil ones with us.

I was very lucky and they only stayed 2 to 3 hours each. My girIs were born 7 days early and were 6 lbs 3 ozs and 5 lbs 9 ozs. I was on complete bed rest for the last 3 mths of my pregnancy and did as the doc said...thank goodness for an awesome husband and family, as are son was only 21 mth old.

My daughters were born at 36 weeks, at 5lbs 5 oz, and 5lbs 10 oz. The littler one had a problem nursing and breathing and got put in the NICU for 4 days so they could try to figure out if she had a medical problem. But it turned out to be nothing, so as soon as she was discharged back to maternity, all three of us went home. They are nearly 4 months old now, and fat little puddings!

Our twin girls were born at 32 weeks, weighed 4 lbs each and Lana was in NICU for 2 weeks and Lindsey was in for 3 weeks. They were only in there becuase could not maintain body temp. We were very blessed that to have them be so healthy. They both are doing fabulous now and will be 4 on sunday the 31st.

My Twins were born at 23 weeks and 5 days and were in the NICU Asa for 5 months Ethan for 6 months it was unbelievably hard having them there and when Asa came home and my husband had to go back to work and Ethan was there coordinating visits was just extremely hard. Thank God my mother was able to come and help me so she sat in the parents room with Asa while I watched over Ethan. We had all the preemie challenges. Breathing and the need for ventilators was our biggest challenge. Both boys had huge hernias repeat lung infections, PDAs, G tubes the works. Ethan came home on oxygen. But through a strong support system, prayer and extended family and friends standing with us, we have made it through the last 10 months. Ethan is no longer using the oxygen and me are moving on the an action plan to get then on solid foods and sippy cups we bypassed the bottle. Taylor only stayed in NICU for 18 days. Alexzandra stayed in for 33 days. Taylor was fine reached all the minestones that they set for her. Ally got really sick. She had an infection in her intestines that almost killed her. And after she was diagnosed with that she got bacterial meningitis. She was on IV antibiotics. And she had to be put on a breathing machine for two days, because she wouldn't keep her respiratory rate up. The doctors took her off all food for a week. It was so had to see her cry when she was hungry and I couldnt do anything about it. I couldnt hold her for 4 days it was so hard to see one of my daughters go through that and I couldnt help her at all. When she went to the childrens ICU me and her twins sister spent every night up their with her. Shes doing so good now.

My fraturnal boys were 5wk. & 2 days early and they had to pend 9 days in the NICU. They had the whole 9 yards, oxygen, feeding tube, jondis, IV's & heart motitors. Luckily everyday we had a possitive answer that they had something taken away everyday or everyother day. They were 5lbs.14oz; 5lbs. 11oz. & still to this day there only a couple oz. apart in weight and 1 inch apart. But it turns out that they are in the 12% chance range of being identical and they are. I thank god everyday that they are healthy because it is such a risk having multiples & you don't realize it till it happens to you.

My twins were in hospital for 6 weeks - three different hospitals that is. I was lucky and got to stay with them as I lived so far from an NICU but I was alone as my husband had to work and I was miles from friends and family and while the nurses were mostly great the system was not, it had very little time for explainantion and understanding as funds are low and nurses limited so I spent 6 wks in hell but at least I know have two healthy happy boys and as for risking going through it again, but this time with older siblings to worry about as well...I'm too raw to think about that yet. Although part of me wants to see if a next time could be better!

my twins were born at 29weeks and spent 9 weeks and 5 days in NICU.. 1 twin was ready for home earlier but we kept them together.. the other 2 needed surgery which put him behind for a bit..

with my girls, only one of them ended up in the NICU. She went under stress during labor and her intestines swelled so she couldn't eat. She came home within a week. They both were very healthy

We were very lucky and did not need the NICU. Our doctor was great and did everything he could to get them as far as he did. 38 almost 39 weeks EEEKKKSSS Kristen and Tyler were both over 7 pounds each. I wish everyone with twins could go that far.

My girls were born at 36 and a half weeks with no need for the NICU. Both strong at 5lbs 9oz and 5lbs 12oz. I had to do four and half weeks of bedrest to make it that long, though.

My twins were born at 35 weeks. I had to deliver them early due to IUGR (they stopped growing). Abigail was 3#12 and was in the NICU for 2.5 weeks and Emma was 2#10 and was in the NICU for 4 weeks. Neither of my girls needed oxygen and they did very well, they were just tiny! The nurses and doctors we worked with were excellent. I learned so much with our time there as well. I hope I never have to go back though!

hi my identicle twins were born at 32 weeks. Daniel came home at 4 weeks and oliver came home at 7 weeks. it was really hard leaving oliver i was so upset. I find it hard work but i wouldnt change it for the world! xx

My girls had to stay in the NICU for 8 days, then got moved to the regular nursery for 2 more days. We were so lucky! When they were born at 35.5 weeks, they told us that they would have to stay for at least 4 weeks if not more. They were 4lb 8.5oz and 3lb 14.25oz at birth but they lost some weight because they couldn't nurse or suck on a bottle so they were tube fed. One was on oxygen for about 12 hours; the other for about 24 hours. They had jaundice at about 5 days old but progressed quickly and everyone was amazed at how fast they got to go home! I was so blessed cause there was a set of twins that had been born the day before my girls were born and they were full term and one of them had to be flown to a larger hospital cause it wasn't doing good but ours got to stay in our hospital!

My boy were born @ 36 weeks and stayed in the NICU 10 & 11 days.Thank God they never needed oxygen and were in good health. They were 4.15 lbs and 4.lbs they needed to gain a little weight and learn to eat quicker. When one came home I convinced the hospital to let the other come home the next day. We were only less than 5 minutes from the hospital and I never even slept that night because I was so upset. He was only a little slower to eat than the other one. I knew in my heart he would be fine and he was.

My twin boys were in the NICU for 31 and 34 days. They were 6 weeks premature and had no health problems. Their only issue was that they wouldn't eat what the doctors wanted them to eat. A NICU nurse told me that on average, caucasion white boys have the longest NICU stay because they are the laziest when it comes to eating!

hi my b/g twins were born at 32wks at 3lb8 and 3lb5 both healthy stayed in nicu for only 3wks they only had problem with feeding and maintaining body temp and now both healthy 7mth old

My husband and I were blessed. They were born at 36 weeks and were both over 6.5 pounds and we didn't think they would have to be NICU at all but turned out they both had underdeveloped lungs and my boy had bleeding heart. Even with a few other complications and a few bad turns, they still only ended up in there for only ten days. My girl's (Aubree) condition began worse off than my boy's (Nicholas) but she was a little fighter and ended up pulling through much quicker than he did. The bleeding in his heart took almost a week to stop and the dr.'s were nervous about that but in the end, they were both ready to come home the same day. (we were blessed about that as well. I was nervous that we would only take one home and I wanted them to be together) Bless you all who endure longer struggles in the NICU even with one baby. So many people I talked to in the NICU during their time there who had been there for 3 moonths or more. 2 families had been there for over 6 months. One went home while we were there and the other was being transferred to another hospital. I still remember their beautiful babies and pray they are healthy now.

One of my identical boys was in for three weeks and the other for four weeks. It was so hard leaving them both behind at the hospital. Then it was even harder when one came home and the other didn't. It was really rough. I do have to say we were lucky that they didn't require a longer stay. Congratulations on you new baby boys!

My twins were born 5 weeks early and I was so lucky that they were able to come home with me. My sister has twins and they were born at 29 weeks and were in the hospital for a couple months. I don't know if I could do that. They thought they were going to need to keep my daughter because she had jaundice but decided to send a bili-light home with me to keep on her for the first few days.

My twins were born at 30 weeks and 1 day.. My son was born 3lb 9oz and my daughter was 4lb 1oz. They were born on Dec 11 and stayed in the NICU till Feb 2..It was very rough but thankfully they were just very small and needed to learn to feed..I now have two beautiful healthy babies

My girls were in the NICU for 21 days. 3lbs 6 oz and 3 lbs 8 1/4 oz and were luckily only on oxygen the first day then it was learning to eat and growing. That was really when my perspective on life changed. So many little ones with little hope of making it to the next day really helps you appreciate your little growing beings and let go of all the "small stuff" that is irritating. I too feel like the NICU is the scariest place on earth.

I had my twins 2 months early and they stayed in the NICU for a little over 1 month. A part of me thinks that's why I don't want any more kids, because the whole experience of having premature babies, that were sick and you couldn't take them home with you was horrible!! My son wasn't breathing when he was born and was put on a ventilator for 2 days, and then we couldn't even hold him for 4 days because his skin was like wet tissue paper. My daughter had most of her problems with eating and maintaining her breathing when she ate. I would never wish an NICU experience on anybody....but I do have to say that I had some really fantastic nurses that treated my babies as if they were their own!

Mine girls were in for two weeks. Same thing they were healthy but they couldnt maintain temp and eat well. I cried and cried when i had to go home without my babys. I dont wish that on anyone!
