when i was growing up i would always think to myself i want a twin and if i can't have a twin i want to have twins when i grow up. well i am 21 years old and met my husband online 2 years ago and we have a beautiful little girl who will be turning 1 in august and i remembered him telling me that his family has twins running through it and i didn't think much of it. but now his sister Lizzy refuses to have another child for the fear it will be twins and i asked her why do you think your next one will be twins she says because its James and my generation to be having twins i ask my husband what she means and i guess right now his generation has 6 sets of twins so far and he tells me that in his family he has one set of triplets as well but they are like his great aunts so i am a little scared because we decided to wait until our daughter is 5 years old to have another and that would put me at 27 years old i wouldn't mind but i am wondering if it is possible that i could have twins i am 5ft 5in tall and only 140 lb and i am under the age of 30 and my daughter was considered a preemie for the only reason she was under 7 lbs i am a little worried it can happen but scared if it does happen i won't be able to financially take care of them and we want a total of 3 kids but want a 5 years difference between them all

No, the husband has no influence on your chances of twinning. Though, some men can carry the gene and pass it on to his daughters. Identical twins are thought to have no genetic component.

For example, if his mom had the hyperovulation gene, she could pass it to him. He could theoretically pass it to his daughter.

http://multiples.about.com/od/funfacts/t...
"Fraternal twins occur when more than one egg is fertilized. Normally, one egg is released from the ovaries each month, but sometimes there is more than one. Some women release multiple eggs in every cycle, a condition called hyperovulation. Women who hyperovulate are more likely to have fraternal twins. A tendency towards hyperovulation can be a genetic trait. In this way, fraternal twinning can be hereditary. A woman who has the gene for hyperovulation can pass it down to her daughter. Then the daughter's chances of having twins is increased. Because men carry both X (female) and Y (male) chromosomes, they can also hold the trait for hyperovulation and pass it along to their daughters, increasing their daughter's chances of having fraternal twins. However, having the gene for hyperovulation does not increase a man's chances of fathering fraternal twins. (Men carry the gene, but they don't ovulate!) That is why twins are sometimes assumed to "skip a generation.""

"Contrary to widespread belief, twinning doesn't skip a generation, although it may sometimes appear to when a son inherits the gene and passes it on to his daughter. A man who carries the gene doesn't have a greater chance of having twins himself because his genes don't affect his partner's ovulation."

Who knows! I don't have any history of fraternal twins but I have twin boys (and my first pregnancy was a twin but the other didn't make it)

it just scares me a little because we are not well off for that to happen. and the fact his whole family keeps saying its our turn i kind of feel like i am being jinxed lol if you know what i mean i have been told that either male or female can a multiple pregnancy but helps more if the woman has twins or more of the kind going on her side and i have been told that a man can cause it is he has higher estergine and or twins going on his side so i don't really know what to think on who can cause it but hope that no matter what happens in the future my husband and i are prepared for it lol

Yeah, fraternal twins can be genetic (hyperovulation) but on the *woman's* side because frat twins are from two eggs, and the woman is the one who ovulates the egg(s). So your husband would have nothing to do with twinning. Skipping generations is also a myth.

It depends really if it is the female side that has the twins releasing two eggs a month or the mans side that has super strong sperm! I dont see you having twins just by generation gaps. I have twins on my side of the family and none of my siblings or I had twins. I did have a triplet pregnancy though but that was because I was conceiving late in life and women who are close to menopause release more eggs a month. Nothing to do with twins in the family.
