Hi, My b/g twins will be three in June and my husband and I are at our wits end. We don't know what else to do as they refuse to listen to us. I'm not talking just about little things I'm talking about everything like not running out into the street and stuff like that where they could get seriously hurt because they don't listen. We also have a son that will be one in July. At first we thought it was because of the new baby, but he's going to be seven months on the 12th so it can't be brushed off as that. Help please!

My three year old twins are in this stage as well! I kind of remember it with the boys (singletons), but I think it's just magnified because there are two of them and they often go different directions. :(

I have twin 3 year old boys and I am right there with you I think its a stage they are going through. I also have a soon to be 5 year old and I sort of remember this stage with him but not to the exstint that the twins are taking it too. They do not listen at all just look at dh and i and go right on doing what they no they are not supposed too be doing! It has gotten a little better lately not as bad so i'm hoping that they are growing out of it!

Hey Liz! I have an almost 7 year old boy and 6 mo old twin girls. I remember 3 being worse than the 2s everyone always talked about!! What worked for us in regards to listening was CONSISTANT time outs!! No matter what you do it has to be consistant! It is super hard to stay on top of the behavior because it requires you to be constantly following through. But I would pick one or two big rules to focus on (and of course the safety things have to be on the list) and be very cut and dry. You don't listen to mommy and daddy, you get a time out, or whatever your choice of consequence. Also, a reward or star chart may work, rewarding the positive behavior (i.e., listening to you) with a sticker they can place on the chart. Depending on the children, the sticker itself may be enough of a reward, or you can have then earn so many stickers or stars to get a bigger reward, but I think 2.5 may be on the young side for that. I am also a clinical social worker, and have used many of these behavioral modification techniques with clients of various ages. What ever you choose to do, consistancy and follow through are the key to success!! Good luck!!
