Hidden twins - missing twins on early ultrasound

I'm new I had an ivf done on Dec 20 n I went to er room for some bleeding they did ultrasound n it showed I was 7 weeks but Dr SD not possible that I had the ivf done that it measured to 2 babies but only heard one hearr beat n one sac can it be 2????

I had a feeling that I was having twins from the very beginning, my morning sickness was awful the entire first trimester and I was gaining so much weight so quickly (all in my belly) even though I could hardly eat and was really relying on prenatal vitamins to provide the nutrition that I couldn't take in myself. I had an ultrasound at 6 weeks and there was one heartbeat and one baby. I went to the doctor every 4 weeks following and they always only heard one heartbeat and never even mentioned that there could be twins. When I went in for an ultrasound at 18 weeks to determine the gender I was shocked (and excited) to find out that there were twins in there. When I asked about it the ultrasound technician said that a lot of times that once one heartbeat or baby is spotted that they don't really look/listen for a second unless they suspect there might be a second. I am low income as well, and I wish you luck with your pregnancy (twins or singleton) :-)

Hi I'm 11 weeks 5 days pregnant and since I was 5 weeks I've had a strong feeling that i have twins but an ultrasound at 5 weeks 5 days only showed one till sac and one baby but even my todlers say its two and I didn't even tell them my husband says I'm crazy but my moms mom is an identical twin and my aunt had twins and I stoped fitting into my jeans at 6 weeks and at days I have the worst nausia and I have to sleep atleast an hour every day or I feel ran out all day so what do you guys think I have mi next ultrasound at 13 weeks I just can't wait nobody in my familly thinks I'm having twins except my mom who just made a joke out of it I hope they are oh and also I got pregnant like 2 weeks after a misscarriege I didn't even have a period in between and my tests were possitive and had symptoms really early on like at 3 weeks

I had two ultrasounds that only showed one baby...at 4 weeks and at 9 weeks. Went back for another ultrasound at 23 weeks and...surprise!.... Twins! So yes, its totally possible!

My 13 week US only showed one baby, not till my 20 week did we find out there was a "wombmate" in there. Very shocking to say the least.

My Aunty had problems conceiving and went through IVF to fall preggers... at her first US (this was 22 yrs ago) the sonographer gushed and pointed to the "three embryos"
They oohed and aahhed (and freaked out!! LOL) and then he brought in someone else to check it out - turns out he was just reading it wrong, lol.
You can never be sure of anything till they are out and screaming in your arms :)

I didn't have an 8 week us bc my doc didn't think she'd see much. The next month I was in the hospital with thyroid disease. Doctors always got two diff heart rates but didn't thinnk about it due to mine being 170. I didn't find out till 12 weeks pregnant that I was having twins. :D

I realized i was pregnant right at implantation. I felt like I was pregnant but kept getting false negatives. I waited about 2 weeks later and used a urine test and immediately the positive sign showed. I was admitted to the hospital for a threatened miscarriage when they found one sac with two fetal poles but could only see one heartbeat. They couldn't find either on the regullar abdominal fetal heart monitor. Each fetal pole had its own measurement (one 4.1 the other 5.8). We have had 3 US within days of eachother but my DR. is saying that there was only ever one fetus. We can't believe that when US said otherwise.
Sometimes doctors miss things. We had a friend recently (in last month, new technology my butt) tell us that he found his twins at 20 weeks cause the doctors kept missing them and his girl felt like she was having twins. We as women know our bodies and we know our family history. I was told with my 4th to abort because she would have spina bifida but today she a healthy baby girl. My mate and I believe that there are stilll twins in there because there has been no sign of miscarriage and all my symptoms came on much earlier then my other 5.
Remain hopeful but also deal with the reality so if doesn't happen you won't take it so hard. Trust that voice cause all things are possible. My Doctor did an ultrasound at 7 weeks and we could see both babies.

I am 12 weeks pregnant with twins...before I even had a us my stomach seemed as if it was getting bigger and bigger by the day...looking at the ultrasound one of my twins are way smaller than the other one but they tell me that they only see one heart beat...yet alone I feel so much movement in my belly...right now I don't know what to think but im thinking about going to see another doctor...

I'm still nervous at 17 weeks that it's twins. When I went in for my ultrasound at 8 weeks the nurse said she saw two at first and it definitely looked like two on the screen. She looked around some more and said it was probably a reflection. Has anyone else had reflections on an ultrasound? I swear it was the scariest moment of my life. Lol. But when they checked the heartbeat it only sounded like one. Is this a good enough indication that it"s only one? Little things like feeling STRONG movements early on and being on the pill when I got pregnant is what makes me so concerned. Hopefully my next ultrasound in a couple of weeks will assure me.

I had a scan at 7 weeks and there was only 1 baby but I knew there was 2 in there, my parents and husband shared my feelings. The doctor did say though that he would of liked to see more for a 7 weeks. At 14 weeks 2 showed up straight away and they were identical. One was hiding behind the other up until then. They are now 2 and half years old and extremely close. Where every 1 is the other will be and do not like being apart. Everything is done together, I have there cots next to each other becuase they like touching the other twin.

they thought they saw 2 heartbeats on the belly ultrasound, and when they did the vaginal one its was hard to even find a baby...so they gave me a pic of the ultrasound and showed me what was the baby..but today i showed my mother in law the pic and she found a baby..totally differen then what the doc ofice showed me..u got a fb or a email i can send u the pic to see what u think..thank u

I was 5 weeks pregnant when I had my first US and they made me come back 4 weeks later to double check the twins.

They saw 2 sacks in the first sonogram but one was more developed than the other one and that is why they made me come back.

At 9 weeks we saw 2 sacks and 2 heart beats.

ok im new at this...im not sure how i post my question..but i had a ultrasound today and they thought they saw 2 flickers(heartbeats) so they switched to a vaginal ultrasound and still couldnt rule it out if it was twins or not...Anyone have this happen to them too?

I was 6 weeks along when I had my first ultrasound, because of a previous miscarriage. The tech couldn't see things completely so she did a prob and found both heart beats.

I went for my first ultrasound yesterday but I was told only one can be seen and once she found the baby she stuck to the left hand side and didn't bother checking the right side but when I came in later to pick up the film in the letter they said they could see two sacks but one of them is empty, but they told me that I should wait until I'm atleast 20 weeks to see, but what made ne so confused was that I was told multiple times that I'm 15-16 weeks pregnant but during the ultrasound I was only told the size of the fetus is only 10 weeks so I'm questioning on whether or not it started out as twins but I lost one and it has continued to grow as if it's a twin.

I was 5 weeks when they saw 2 sacs and confirmed at 9 weeks when we saw 2 babies :)

Sariah, Thank you so very much for asking this question. I joined this community because I have thought that there may be 2 and not 1 growing. My cousin's wife had twins 5 months ago and was able to confirm everything that I have been feeling. Right down to the VERY large belly and double movements that are not from 1 baby. I had an u/s at 19w 4d and they only want to look for 1 even through my concerns. They just keep telling me that the baby is doing acrobats....ok. So I am headed with a friend to a midwife that I hope will be able to give me some answers.

I was 10w 3d when I found out we were having twins. It is possible for one to hide behind the other but at 8 weeks, they should have been able to clearly see another baby.

we found out we were having twins at 16 week us. Had first us at 12 weeks, but doctor said there was only one baby although I had a gut feeling I was having twins because all the symptoms seem to be twice as heavy (I have a 4 year old girl and 2 year old twin boys) and I looked about 4,5 months pregnant instead of 3. I did see a lot of movement on the 12 week us and asked if it wasn't twins but they said no. so the doctor could also be missing something because 2 weeks later there where definitely 2.

I had an ultrasound to confirm pregnancy - one baby, then an ultrasound at 19 wks - one baby, then 2 days later mono mono twins - turns out the techs saw one and didn't look for anything else it was only because the last tech heard an extra heartbeat

i had a 12 week scan and was only 1 but at 20 weeks i found out it was twins. stacy lay on my spine but we also found out stacy was concived 2 weeks after rebecca. but i had a feeling at around 13/14 weeks for i started to show and when i lay down i had head buts and bum poking out at the same time so i new i was having twins before they told me

I founf out I was having twins at 3 weeks.. Fraternals are easier to see there is 2 of.. goodluck And I Hope its twins! Its soo much fun and amazing!!! xxx

When I had my 12 week us she found just the one, but she didnt look very hard if you ask me. i didnt find out until i went to find out the sex and they told me : two girls!

Actually they told me at only 6 wks.....I knew that I must have the flu....that is what I always say....but I was only 4 to 5 weeks pregnant when I found out I was pregnant and tested pos for pregnancy....didnt put two and two together....it was all the extra hormones....I had a really bad miscarriage about 6 months prior to that so when I went in for my first appt they did a sono and the doctor saw two hearts beating....well the rest is history now they will be 8 in Jan....good luck to you ....weather it is one or two....as long as you have a healthy baby is what counts!

I had my us at 6 weeks. The tech did a regular us and she said that she could see enough. Then she changed to the probe and she said that's what I thought. There is one heart beat and there is the other. I thought my husband was going to climb over the top of her to make sure she wasn't joking.

I went to have our first ultrasound and they told ME I was only having one baby boy. Then I went to a better ultrasound place and they saw two heads instantly.

Hi Sariah, I had my first US at 8 weeks to rule out twins and was told by the doctor, I wasn't pregnant with twins. At 16 weeks I had some spotting and went to the clinic to, where there was also only 1 baby. When I went for my big US at 20 weeks, I was told that I was having identical twins - 1 placenta, 2 sacks. Ask for an independant scan - they cost abit but they are very thorough. All the best. My girls are 4 now :)

I had my first ultrasound at 13 weeks and both of my twins were found. They can be missed so early sometimes, so you might find out at the next ultrasound that is really is twins.

They only saw one the first time at 5 weeks, but did another at 7. At the second, at first you could only see one, but she turned the probe and another popped up from behind the first. I also had very high progesterone levels for so early in the pregnancy, which can apparently indicate twins better than HcG levels.

i got my first ultrasound done at about 8 weeks and they showed up almost immediately. it could have been because they were in seperate sacks. if u really feel like its twins talk to your doctor at your next ultrasound. by then it shouldnt be a problem knowing if there is one or two.

I knew right away I was having twins...I can't explain it, I just KNEW. There is not a single set of twins or any other multiples on either side of my family OR my husband's family, everyone said I was just delusional and paranoid. My midwife assured me there was only one heartbeat, my hcg levels were high, but said some women just had high levels, my uterus was measuring 4 weeks larger than it should have, she told me that my last period that I "claimed" was just spotting and not an actual period. I was extra sick and tired because not every pregnancy is the same. At my 15 weeks us, sure as sh*t, there were 2 babies! I walked into her office and said, "I told you there were two!!!" Sometimes, a woman just knows. I would request an extra thurough us exam and to know the results of my tests asap, I knew the same day with my hospital, it shouldn't take them weeks to get the results of an hcg test! Mine were identified at 7 weeks. They were fraternal, and like many of the other women have stated, it was quite obvious.

at that early stage it would be hard for one to 'hide' but it does sometimes happen that a heart beat is missed. I was 9 weeks when I found out it was twins, my levels were quite high and my normal doctor decided to send me for an ultrasound - don't normally have them here until 18 weeks - as he had a feeling it was twins. As soon as she turned on the wand you could see both heart beats strongly beating away.

I already had other children and right from the start the twin pregnancy felt different, I was sicker, more tired, more emotional etc.

I didn't find out about the twins until 19 weeks, but that was because I hadn't had an ultrasound done until then... lol :) Good luck! ;)
