My boys first meat was meatballs. But I think they started with soft stuff like banana's and mashed up sweet potatoes. I don't like canned veggies, but they are softer than fresh and frozen and they love them. I get the low sodium varieties. Try giving her canned peas and see if she will pick them up and mash them with her gums. I would wait on the meat till you practice with soft stuff first.

As a pediatric Nurse I have to say please make sure you have a doctor examine your daughter to make sure there are no problems such as polyps in the throat or some kind of obstruction that could be developing. I think this is highly unlikely and I dont want to scare you but its always best to have a complete exam especially when one twin is having such a different experience. Once any physical issues are ruled out then the problem will correct itself over time. Good luck! :). Keep us posted

My son is almost 8 months old and he also gags sometimes when I give him slightly chunky food. I am slowly making him use to the new chunky food. I started with something soft like pumpkin that is a bit chunky, but it is a slow process for him.

I will not be worried she will start eating chunky food when she is ready.

My twin girls are 10 1/2 months and they they just started on stage three - the chunks made the gag and they woudl vomit. Their doctor said as long as they are drinking their milk, eating fruits and veggies, growing taller and gaining weight it doesn't matter. It takes a while for them to learn to use their tongue to move food around in their mouths. Just keep trying and make the chunks as much as possible without completely taking all the texture out. Their 9 month visit the doctor said not to worry about the meat - mine still will not eat meat unless it is mixed into their food - they will not eat the meat sticks even if I make it tiny pieces. I just kept trying every few days or so and now they are starting to eat stage 3. Good luck.

one of my boys choked a lot too. He had a harder time than his brother figuring out how to move food around in his mouth. I agree with heather.

I wouldn't be concerned at 8 months. Just let her eat the pureed food, and try to introduce the more chunky food once a week or so. Are they eating any cheerios or anything like that? It might help as well. The baby food jars at the store will have recommendations for ages of the babies that can eat them. I would check the meat jars and see what they say. I think 8 months is about right, but it might be 9...
