Not measuring more

4 weeks ago (at 20 weeks) I measured 29 weeks. Today I only measured 30 weeks. I had the nurse measure again and she said, "I'll give you 32, how's that?" I'm concerned that only gaining 3cm in 4 weeks with twins is not a good sign! My weight gain is...ahem...just fine (how embarassing) so the nurse is not concerned at all but I am worried. Thoughts?

Didnt read through all the replies, but NO, you dont need to worry. Many times during the last half of my twin pregnancy I did not gain, and sometimes even measured smaller in inches @ my belly. -- Your twins are moving around, shifting into new positions. As long as your weight is ok and heartbeats sound good, dont be concerned :)

Traci - My OB has not mentioned any more u/s. ?? I appreciate the encouragement and am trying to not worry about the small increase in size. I'm sure in another 10 weeks I'll be back on here lamenting about how huge I've suddenly gotten! :)

it is okay sweetie. If you are like I was, you are getting plenty of ultrasounds, which will show if there is a problem. If the babies had a good heart rate, there is really no reason for concern. You have to remember that your babies grow at a very rapid rate in the beginning, and then they slow down a bit. Then at the end, they grow like crazy again. It is just the stage. Also, one more thing to remember is that measurement can be off, and with twins - they twist and turn, sometimes causing you to measure inconsistently. Have a wonderful week!

I know for me, after a while I started growing more from side-to-side than sticking out the front. That measurement is not really useful in twin pregnancies, from what my doctor told me. They just do it sort of from habit, I think. It's better to have ultrasounds and make sure the babies are growing properly, and a healthy weight gain is a good sign too. Congratulations on your twins!

It could be that the twins shifted. I know that mine were transverse/transverse for a long time and when they shifted to breech/breech it seemed to affect my measurements. In a singleton pregnancy you are suppose to be 1 cm for each week pregnant you are, but twins don't have as much room and all that so they're not going to measure the same way on the outside. When all was said and done, at 36 weeks I measured 42 cm, but my OB said it didn't really matter, she just measured me because she was curious : ) But at 30 weeks I was measuring 40 cm, this was before the shift, so I technically only grew 2 cm in 6 weeks, but the babies were growing just fine. With twins I just don't think you can but much stock in that measurement. I agree with the other responses, as long as the ultrasound measurements are good, no worries.

I would say your first measurement is off. Measuring 29 at 20 sounds a bit off to me. Measuring 30 at 24 sounds normal.

At 30w I measured 10 weeks ahead, not at 20w. I think you are fine. If they were not worried (and they know what they are looking for when they check you), you should be OK with it too.

I gained only 35 lbs. and delivered at 32w1d.

I never got measured when i was pregnant. They only went by the measurements of the babies inside. How big you are with twins shouldn't matter. I gained 70lbs with my twins. I read how they are supposed to measure your stomach during pregnancy but none of my 4 doctors ever did. I wouldn't be concerned about the measurements but instead the weight of your babies inside of you.
