Post babies body?

[deleted account] ( 14 moms have responded )

I just delivered my second set of twins in April. I carried them to 40 weeks and 5 days and they had a combined weight of just under 16 pounds. I had a massive diastatsis with this pregnancy (a whole hand width), but gained the same amount of weight overall. I still have about 20 pounds to lose, but I have to say I'm pretty disgusted by how saggy my stomach looks at this point. I bounced back pretty quickly from the last pregnancy with no issues, but this time my stomach is a mess. I'm wondering if other twin moms were able to return to some semblance of their pre-pregnancy body, or is my body just gone forever? It's only been 3 1/2 months since the babies were born, but still -- my stomach tightened up much quicker the last time around. I'm particularly interested in hearing from twin moms who had bigger babies -- 14, 15, 16 pounds of baby. Thanks!!

I have six kids, two singulars and two sets of twins. I had the same concerns as you, especially since I had a c-section with my last two. But it's been nine months since I gave birth to my twins and I'm seeing a significant change in my stomach. My advice is to exercise whenever you can, even if you just do squats in your own home. If you can join a gym, go for it. Most gyms have day cares nowadays if you need someone to watch your baby. Also, eat healthy and try not to drink your calories. (Cutting soda and juice our of my diet made a huge difference in my weight.)

But all in all, don't stress over your body. You've brought life into this world, it's not surprising you have gained a little weight.

You need to eat healthy foods that are lean- vegetables, greens, rice, beans, etc. And you need to keep exercising to stay healthy too. Mummy magic tea helps with weight loss. It has lots of benefits for health and weight loss. You should drink 2-3 cups of this tea each day to improve your health and get close to lose weight.

I had two 40 week big boys and monster diastasis. In fact my bellybutton was herniated too, meaning it stuck out like a little beak. Because of this my insurance actually paid for about half of the repair surgery. I had to pay for the skin repair part, but insurance paid to repair the hernia and sew up the diastasis. So it wasn't too expensive and now people have finally stopped asking me if I am pregnant. My body is still really different than it was before the babies, but I'm learning to live happily with it. The tummy tuck is kinda weird in a lot of ways, and it hurt like all heck at first, but I'm basically glad I did it.

Hi Rebecca, I've had five children. #1 8lb 7oz, #2 10 lb 10oz. #3 10 lb 8oz. #4& #5 (twins) 7lb 1oz, 6 lb 13 oz. My stomach I'm afraid will never be the same. The twins are 5 now. So I think maybe surgery is my only option.

My twins were 7lbs 13oz and 7lbs 15oz..I had the same concerns as you. They are now 11 months and I see a significant change in my stomach. You can still see stretch marks and there is a bit of sagginess by my bellybutton, but the rest has tightened up significantly. And no, I didn't work out..I think the breastfeeding and carrying around huge babies did it:) don't worry, it'll go back! And two sets?? You go girl!

I would HIGHLY recommend that you consult with a physical therapist, there are pelvic floor PT's that are specially trained to work with moms ( and other ladies) anyhow after two sessions I was able to learn to exercise properly (tiny changes BIG difference) and heal my diastasis which my MD said would require surgery.

Although my twins were not as large as yours, I did have two sets of twins and a singleton in a 3.5 year time span. With the first set I had no problem losing all the weight. Within a month after birth I was had lost all but 10 of the 75 pounds that I gained. With my second set(a total of 12 pounds of baby), I only gained 50 pounds, but really struggled getting it off. After three months I still had 15 pounds to go and really hated the way that my body looked. Once I lost those last 15, I looked so much better. There is still excess skin and at some point I would love to get a tummy tuck just to fit better in my clothes, but overall I am happy with my body. I would give it some more time and wait until you are back to your "normal" weight. I am sure losing that last 20 pounds will help alot. For now, just enjoy those babies!!

I had 16lbs worth of twin girls and had a c-section which cut me from one side to the other, and my belly just hangs over my scar, my dr. told me the only way to really fix it was surgery. My twins are 5 now and it is still a horrible mess. I dont really have money for surgery, so I just have to live with it. My twins were my 4th and 5th children, and always before i bounced back within a year but not with the twins

Just so you know, the worst thing you can do with a diastisis is sit ups/crunches. I had a set of twin boys almost a year ago. They came to 17 lbs of baby so I know what you mean. They are my 3rd and 4th babies. I was told surgery might be the only remedy. So I searched and found this website http://www.maternalfitness.com/
It features the Tupler Technique , which you might have heard about already. It is belly breathing and when I did it for 2 weeks straight I noticed a huge difference in the diastisis which allowed for a 2 inch + loss around my waist. as for the loose skin, bah, it will probably always be there. I only gained 55 or so lbs with my twins. So if you have gained more then you might have more to lose? Check out the sight, I did order the diastisis splint and it certainly helps to close the gap and strengthens the core muscles.

I have 4 children. I always Joke about what body your gonna get after this baby. My body shape changed after each pregnancy. You can't compare yourself to others. Some women carry babies in thei backs and don't get very big at all and some get really big. We had our first young and getting back wasn't very hard. Although things werent where they used to be. Then waited amost 6 years to decide to have another. Here came our twins. Then when they turned almost 4 months I found out surprise your pregnant again. OMG. Anyway so than you Lord it's only one. After my last considering I was pregnant for or two years my stomach wasn't the same. My youngest will be 2 in October and things have tightened up but it will never be the same. Back to you. 2 sets if twins. You need to be fair to yourself and give yourself a soid year to be Able to start thinking the word normal. A far as surgery goes I a a for it. I plan have a tuck in may hen daddy can be home. I had a breast lift last year it was the best thing I ever did! I fee Ike a woman again. LOL kids are hard on us.

With my singletons I bounced back within 3 months, but after my twins it took just over a year. I had actually just given up and given away all of my pre-pregnancy clothes, and less than a month later I was out buying smaller clothes again! I would say that it's just because you had more in you body and stretched more. Give it more time. Every pregnancy is different, as is every recovery period.

Congratulations! My twins are now 4 1/2 and older child is 6 1/2. after 3 months with my single baby my body was back to pre-pregnancy shape and my stomach was flat and tight again. After my twin pregancy I had no problem with weight but I had really bad diastatsis and the skin on my tummy is shredded to pieces. I have been referred to surgery for the diastatsis and if I do it I will also have the skin tucked. However I have been told that I will not be able to do much for 4 weeks after the op so opted to wait until the boys were a bit older as I am SAHM and have no one around to help look after the kids. My intestines still stick out through the gap in my stomach muscles in the morning and at times I look as if I am 6 months pregant, but it has massively improved and the rest of my body looks pretty much like it did before. Exercise definitely helps but you have to be careful what stomach excersises you do as you could make it worse. Have you heard of the Tupler technique? She has a book - Get rid of your mummy tummy. Be patient, 3 1/2 months isn't long for a body to recover after a pregnancy without the added stress of a second twin pregnancy.

Two sets of twins! WOW! (Sorry I HAD to say it!)

I would guess that 3.5 months is still a bit early to worry but I totally know how you feel. I gave birth to over 14 lbs of babies 22 months ago (only once though!!!). This summer I started an exercise program and lost 3 inches around my tummy but I still need to lose about 10 more lbs (to be my wedding day weight) and my stomach is still a mess. Its saggy and I have stretch marks everywhere!!

I hope surgery isn't the only option. At this point I am not even sure if I am open to surgery. I am working pretty hard at it now that the girls are older, so if things improve I will keep you posted. I actually haven't targeted the stomach yet. I focussed on burning fat to shed those last lbs. I would love to hear what others have to say. Thanks for asking the question.
