I am always asked questions by strangers when I am out and about and I wanted to know if this happens all over the world. I am in the UK. I am interested to know the strangest question that you have been asked rather than the usual 'are they twins' and what your answer was if any. My question was asked by a woman on the check out at a supermarket 'Do you feed them yourself?' No i get my next door neighbour to do it!

A waitress came over to our table when my twin boy and girl was almost 2 months old. She was saying how cute they were and proceded to ask questions. I could not believe what came out of her mouth. She said how did you get them so close in age. I had to look up at her before I could answer. I thought she was joking. She was serious. I said to her very slowly.... um, they are twins. What I wanted to say was, I got pregnant and then a minute later I got pregnant again.

I had someone at a depatment store not believe me that my boys are twins, they were just infants at the time, they look nothing alike, and one has always been quite a bit bigger than the other!!

I take pride in letting people know I have twins when they ask because they envy me. Twins are such a blessing and a joy. I even fear getting pregnant again because i might have a singleton. if somebody told me i would have twins again I would get pregnant this minute.

There are so many strange or silly questions asked by strangers and people you know when it comes to multiple births. I have boy/girl who are now 16 yrs. old and several of their teachers have just realized that they are twins even though they actually have several classes together. That's sort of funny since when I taught I always had my students' information and could easily tell if there were 2 kids with the same last name and the same birthdate in my class. When they were babies I decided to dress them often in pink & blue yet it never failed...someone would ask which one is the girl or which one is the boy? I also got the "Are they identical ?" many times and did on several occasions boldly tell them, "No, he has a penis & she doesn't." The strangest questions would probably be the ones where people would ask something along the lines of "How did that happen?" or "How did you concieve?" For some reason people (strangers) think that they can ask such personal questions. I could always blow their minds by telling them something like, "Well on two separate nights, my husband got a little amorous or frisky...and I managed to get pregnant on both nights" Of course then I would have to continue to explain that I did conceive my son first and then 2 weeks later conceived my daughter. It is not all that common but it does happen. At first the doctors thought there was a growth problem but as we took sonograms every week they came to realize that her development was consistenly 2 weeks behind his & even when they were born 8 wks early (10 for her) she just had to lay around and continue to develop.

When they were 15 months old, I had a nurse ask me of they were born 6 months apart. My daughter from 2 to 5 was consistently 3 inches shorter and 7 pounds lighter than her twin brother. My daughter was always considered to be one or two years younger than her brother since she was in the 1% for her age. She was 35 pounds in kindergarten and everyone always wanted to pick her up. When I was asked if they are identical, I would reply - No, they have different body parts. They are now 16 and best friends.

The two that annoy me are "are they good?" to which I usually reply "no" and "which is the naughty one?" as though there must be an evil twin or something!

I went to my a dinner for my friend's birthday, and we put my 1 yo twin girls between my friend and I. The girls were dressed alike and in their high chairs. The male waiter came up to the table and asked us if we planned on dressing them alike or if it was just a coincidence? I just looked at him, and told him that they were both mine. He just said, "Oh, are they twins?" I just smiled and said "yep"

Also, I had one of my coworkers tell a lady that I had twins and she rudely responded "I don't envy her at all!" Which of course I heard and I just walked over to her, smiled and said "I envy me!" I couldn't believe the nerve.

I also feel that only having the twins is no more stressful than having only a singleton. A new parent is a new parent...no matter of how many kids. We do the best we can and get thru our day the best way we can.

I agree with one these post that says dont make eye contact!!! I cant walk 2 feet in the grocery store without someone asking "are they twins". Ive let my sarcasm get the best of the situation many times.. Ive responded with "no, they met on the itnernet" "no, just very good friends." and when asked" are they identical I reply .."no their replicas."

i got a call the other day from an older woman who said she worked for the provincial government of BC (in Canada) and was calling to confirm info for programs or whatever. the conversation went something like this:
her-"...so do i have the correct info in front of me? are you expecting a baby this year?"
me-"no. i had twin babies last year"
her-"oh twins? i have twins too! course mine are 55 now, but they are a lot of fun! congratulations! so what was their birthdate?"
me-"july 30th '09"
her-"both of them?"

we both laughed, she said "oh, what a stupid question..i can't believe i just asked you that, of course both of them...oh i can't believe i just asked you that!" lol

* i know it can happen where they have different b-days, but it's pretty rare!

I have 2 sets of twins... Identical 10 yr old boys and fraternal 8 yr Boy/Girl.... I always get the are they twins question but my biggest pet peeve is "you must have your hands full." I also get are they natural which is rude and what are the chances of 2 sets happening. My response "Well my drs. told me after the second set its pretty common." Which all leads back to "are you having more?"

I get that one all the time and my favorite is when they have no comprehension as to why a boy and girl can't be idenical (dazed and confused looks). I swore to my husband that I would use the qoute the 5 year old from the Kindergarten Cop (movie with Arnold S.) and say, No, boys have a penis and girls have an vagina. Of course, I haven't gotten that quesitons since I swore that was how I was going to respond

NO my husband did you j----ass! Or awww what cute boys you have! And my girl is clearly wearing pink! And she sits in the front of the double stroller. People can be such ninnies.

I seem to get the inappropriate questions, like are they natural, but the do twins run in your family question gets old, I am at the point of saying, well yes, my 4 year old twins run all the time!!! And the I don't know how you do it, I normally answer with, "well, I get up in the morning, get going, and then fall into bed at night and I have never had a singleton, so don't know any different!"

I found that when people would stop me to ask about my identical twin boys they would stare at the boys for a while to try and find a difference. My boys became so used to this that as they got older and they would meet new people, they would stare intently at them for awhile. I guess they were thinking this is the normal way we greet people!

I have a 3yo and 9mth b/b twins of which one has extremely short hair and the other thick black curly hair and was also born with loads of hair so nothing much has changed. He has however had 3 hair cuts since birth though. I get the - are they twins and one is a boy and the other a girl? When I've deliberately dressed them both in blue - poor dad jumps to his defence a lot. So hair quantity was the conversation starter here - LOL

My favourite was "are they girls or boys?" when it was fairly obvious as they were (usually) dress in pink from head to toe!!! I often got stopped in the street by people blocking the footpath just so I couldn't get past and then they could lift hats and generally touch my twins even when I said "please don't touch them"!!! It was a never-ending source of frustration and I hated taking them out! Now they're 5 and because they look nothing alike I think people just think one of them has a friend over to play. So it will get easier for you too :-)

"Do they respond to their names?"

When my boys were about 18 months if you asked them what their name was, they both had the same response "JackandDavid" at that point I realized I needed to start calling them one at a time to dinner, or play or whatever :-)

Sometimes I just want to go to the store, get in and out without the paperazi following me!! I feel like "Bradgelina" on most outings! Maybe I should hire body gaurds. Wouldn't that be hularious!! LOL

My identical 7 week twin girls are never dressed the same, I refuse to dress them the same as they are two different little ladies, but I do dress them in obviously girly clothes though I'm still finding people coming up and saying how lovely my little boy and girl are and it's the same baby being mistaken for a wee boy each time and I'm constantly asked if they are twins, are they identical, and regardless of the fact that they are both the double of me and in a twin pram I'm still asked if they are mine and if they are sisters.

I'm thinking for getting a big sign to carry above my head pointing out that they are identical girls and if you call my wee girl a boy again I may have to reply very rudely or just ignore you altogether and walk on. It is the most frustrating and upsetting thing, especially when I'm trying to enjoy a rare day out with my girls.

We were paying to enter an off the highway amusement park. When I asked the lady at what age do we have to pay for the kids to get in, she pointed at one of my two year old twins and said "he's free", and then to the other, "you have to pay for him." When I laughed and asked again what the age was because they were twins and if one is young enough to be free, the other was as well. She never did tell me the age, she just grumpily ushered us all in.

I often get people argue as well that my boys are identical. They do look very alike and sometimes we get confused at a first glance. But I think I know that they aren't identical. Our daughter looked the same when she was their age. They are siblings of course. The one question I could not get over was "are they twins", "yes", "what both of them". What do some people think. I also dont get the ones who say "I always wanted/I want twins, just so I can dress them the same." Yep because you choose twins, and just for that reason. I am in Australia and there are really bizarre questions all the time.

I did cust service for 11 yrs and was always told, "It may be your 100th time answering that same question today, but it's that customer's first time." I look at these questions these people ask the same way. Yes, we may answer them a million times, but those people weren't around when the last person asked. And we only think they're stupid questions b/c we have twins and we know. I have g/b 3 yr old twins. Same questions, are they twins, boys/girls, identical? A favorite response of mine (trying to be funny w/people) is when they ask, "Who's older?". Our girl is older, but almost 2 inches shorter than our boy, so I say, "She is, by 2 minutes." People usually get a kick out of that. I know they're not trying to be rude, they're just curious, and I'd be asking the same things if I didn't have twins (and I actually sometimes do have to ask if they're identical - not for b/g twins of course). And we have 5 kids (almost 10, 6, 3, 3 and 1) and also get the "I don't know how you do it" a lot. I always just answer w/you just do what you have to do to get through the day. Just remember, they're asking b/c they don't have twins and don't know what it's like :)

But the best would have to have been a week or two before I had them when the person checking me out at the grocery store asked me if I was having twins, when I said yea, she said she just knew I was because it was either that or I was like 10.5 mos pregnant. This really shocked me cause up to that point everyone had been telling me that I was really small for twins.

My all-time favorite come-back to the "how do you tell them apart?" happened when I was at the mall with a friend with VERY different looking fraternal twins. Her answer, "Well, the boy weighs about 2 pounds more than the girl." The most unbelievable question I was asked was if I used fertility drugs! This was from a total stranger in the mall. Oh, my daughters were adopted from China! LOL

I had a woman ask if they are twins. When I said yes, she proceeded to argue with me for 10 minutes that there was no way possible they could be... lmao. I am pretty sure I'd know ! In the end.. she asked me how my daughter could be so much bigger if they are twins. I was so fed up, I told her that they were supposed to be triplets, and she ate the third baby.

That shut her up :)

Im from Australia,
A stranger was looking at my little men and she turns around and said "You had them a bit to close together didnt you?" My response to her was "3 mins apart is quiet fine i think for twins". She turned to her friend and said that i was rude for my reply. She didnt even know me and yet she made an assumption that I had 2 babies through 2 different pregnancies.
Another girl asked me "Are they both yours?" My reply "yes they are, why would i have a double pram for just one baby". Sometimes you have to wonder what posses people to come out with some of the things they say.
