I have identical twins as well and the original author of this post happens to be my baby sis. :) I have four children total. My oldest is a girl age 11, now onto the boys. My twin (now) 8 year old twins are next in line and then 18 months younger than the twins is my baby. The most memorable thing about the twins that I will never forget is when my youngest was still in an infant carrier and people would ask me "O are they triplets?" LOL sometimes I just felt like telling them yep only I carried this lil one here an extra 18 months lol that would have raised some eyebrows. I never really had to worry about them being called girls however I did get alot of the "You have got your hands full" My answer to that was always that I loved my hands being full. I did not get the luxury of knowing that I was having twins from early on in my pregnancy because they were so in sync I did not find out until around 7 months and they were born about a month later. But my all time favorite memory would be when people would look at them after being told yes their twins they would say "Are they identical?" I mean seriously, come on just looking at them I was constantly scared that I would not remember who was who and they go and ask are they identical. They are 8 almost nine now and I still have trouble telling them apart thank goodness for the one little distinguishing mark on the youngest of the two.

I have 11 mo old B/G twins, and my favorite is:

"Are they identical?" I say, yea except one has a penis. lol Hello! Did you pass Biology class?



And if they ask if I had them naturally, I just ask them if they want to hear the conception story!



Oh, and I actually had someone comment that my son looks Hispanic! Um yea, one twin is the mailman's kid? Really people?



Ugh, if you're under the age of 70, you have no excuse to ask stupid questions!

My twins are 20. The questions will never stop. Folks love twins! Call it love, grin and bare it. Goes with all the upsides to the experience. (BTW, the answer to "Double Trouble" is, "Yes, and they are double the pleasure too."

Double trouble i get constantly - I just respond 'Nope double the fun'.
Also always get the are they two boys - I normally say nope one of each ( one in pink one in blue)
There are some occasions when i would love to say - yep two boys and then see the look of confusion when they ask - well why is one in pink?

Its a common question, people are curious, and do not always think. Most parents know how difficult it is with one child and dread the thought of 2 the same age. I don't really think they mean anything malicious by their comments. When someone asked my dad if they were twins when they were abt 2 his answer was---no they have different fathers.. :)

My boys are now 20 months old and do not look alike at all. So I often get asked if they are twins and I reply " yes, I got a bonus baby." I get the hands full comment a lot especially when I have my 6 year old daughter with me. I just smile and say yes, hoping it will get them away from me quicker. I have gotten a few people who say I aways wanted twins, to which I smile and reply it's a lot of work! I wouldn't change having my boys but I don't know that I would have said yeah I want two babies at the same time, no sleep, early delivery, twice the everything! It just happens and you love them!

I hate all of these comments and get them all the time and over and over again. The one that gets me most is my identical twin boys are born on different days. The classic response "Then they aren't twins right?"

@ sharon yes we do get the hows the twinnies or hows the boys alot but family know not to send just 1 card for both as i told them if they do i will just send 1 card back for there kids in 1 case my bro in law has 3 kids so dont have that problem lol xx

I don't mind the harmless questions but the real personal stuff is what gets me all in a huff.I think a lot of it is just curiosity and the real reason we get annoyed is because we are busy with our twins and other children and knowing that people feel the need to comment on our lives pisses me off. I say unless you are here to help me...Shut up and get out of my way! Especially if you are walking with the stroller other kid in tow as well and someone just stops right in front of where you are walking and proceeds to talk to the kids. I'm trying to get them to be cautious with strangers and this does not help! We once were out at a restaurant with the kids(that is a once in a blue moon thing ...you do what you can) and an old man stood directly behind my husband and stared at the twins for like a whole minute! Hubby looks over his shoulder and asks"you seeing double?" The man finally just walked away.

I have 13mth identical twin boys & hear all those things everytime we go out!!
Are they twins? Both wearing exact same clothing & hard to tell apart with hats on!!
I couldn't cope with twins, how do u? Didn't really have much option!
Are they boys? Dressed all in blue or dark colours!!!!

People don't think before they speak or observe & after getting asked the same questions over & over it does get so annoying but guess its something we need to live with!! xx

my kids are 19...and still remember some of the comments.

"are they twins?" YES "what sex are they?" BOY AND GIRL then...the funny part "Are they identical?"

Then...after finding out I had b/g twins, I'd sometimes get chewed out because I had my daughter in red!

Now, when I see a mom or dad with twins, I smile and say..."My twins are grown up, and it does get easier!"

The question I get tired of explaining is "who's side of the family do they run on?" I know it's an innocent question, but I explain that mine are identical and that they do not "run" in families. It is a random occurrence that just happens. But I get all that you have already mentioned. My husband gets way more annoyed than I. When they were newborns & babies we would get "What are they" questions, and even though they were dressed very frilly and such, my husband would say this is our daughter Ava and the other is our gay son Kyle. LOL. Very politically uncorrect, but it shut people up asap.

Been there same gap with my five but i used to get oh you have to sets of twins as child 2 is slight and on the short average size and child 3 is tall and solid but there is 2 years between them

Oh boy do I ever. I have finally gotten to the point that if I have to go to the store with all of my kids I trash the agenda and expext it to take forever. I think I get more questions than most people, and I am only saying that because I have 5 kids 2 red heads, 2 brunettes and 1 blonde, and only 2 out of 5 look anything like me. That and my twins have different car seats and are night and day when it comes down to appearance. People stop you to talk or just stare, the worst..."Are they ALL yours" questions are so frustrating. Then the kicker...DO THEY HAVE THE SAME DAD?? Ugh! uuuuhhh, yah! People are ridiculous. Don't they realize that my time is precious??? Going to the store with 5 month old twins, a 18 month old, and a 4 and 5 year old is no simple task...

YES! It gets so bad that I ignore people it might be rude but, I have shopping to do and I don't ask them questions about their life do I? No because it's none of my business. I had a friend tell me to say they are two weeks apart. I get are they boys or girls I have one of each. When we do get out of the house I wear pink/purple and blue/green. I had a girl ask recently how far apart they were and my husband was going to say about 3 feet. That's how far we were standing away from each other.

I have 10 month twins. I get " Are they twins?" or " A boy and a girl?!" ( they are wearing pink or dresses). When I went to the doctor's when they were about seven months. I have a pink double stroller. A man in the corner who hadnt even seen the girls but the PINK stroller asked if i had two boys! I commeted No twin girls. I figured out that if i speed walk through a store ppl just smile and say something to the person they are with But if i take my time through the store I get stopped ALOT! LOL And my favorite thing that ppl say is " WOW how do you do it" I just simple say I just do.

I have 17 month g/g fraternal twins. Still getting "oh, a boy and a girl" Another I hear a lot is, "well you just got it out of there in one shot, huh?
My all time favorites came on our first trip to the zoo when the girls were around 9 months:
First lady comes up and looks at them and says, "Wow, you were busy, huh? Had them awfully close together, didn't you?" After a quick shocked pause, I gathered myself and responded "Well yes I did actually, 7 minutes apart!!!" To which she responded, "Oh their twins, well that explains how they look so close in age!!!"
A second lady comes up and says "Wow, they are so cute! Are they twins?" To which I respond, "Yes they are." To which she responds, "Are they both yours?"

My greatest came at the grocery store when my twins were about 3 months old. (they are 5 now) The cashier saw them in the cart in their matching car seats and said "Oh are they twins" I said "No, we had this one and when we were leaving the hospital we found that one outside in a matching car seat so we just picked him up!" She was thoughtful for a moment then said "That was a stupid question wasn't it?" My response "Here's your sign? Sorry you just got the short straw. I get that question A LOT!" I smiled and we laughed together. The older they get they less I get 'the question' but now when I get it I think back to that sleepless, cranky, sharp tongued Mommy I was and smile to myself.

I think the only thing worse than "are they twins" is "what's the age difference?" or "How far apart are they?" "Whose older and by how much?" when you politely try to answer them and say "So and so is one minute older" you get "Oh twins!"

I get this every single day! I've learned to either smile and keep walking or give them the "why would you say that?" look to make them feel uncomfortable. Haha! I was so angry a few days ago.....I was in line at a Holiday store with my girls and the cashier is going on and on asking me the usual questions like: Are they twins? Which one is the bad one? (Arrgh! I hate the question), when she proceeds to tell me about her son. I tried to make light of the conversation even though she saw that I was obviously trying to hurry and get out of the store since my girls wanted to grab anything that sparkled, and in a Xmas store...that's like everything!! LOL So anywho, I asked her if the child she mentioned was a twin? (since she decided to compare her life with mine) and her response was "Oh God No, I wouldn't wish twin boys on anyone!!" Now...even though I have twin girls I was just as furious, because in my book TWINS are TWINS no matter if they are girls or boys! I politely said to her "Well I am so happy someone wished it on me!" and left the store.



People really need to think before they speak.

Happens to me everywhere I go. I have 13mth old girls.
Wow, are they twins ? and Oh boy, double trouble are the 2 I hear the most...
A boy and a girl?? I get asked often..I make sure they both wear something feminine like pink, or there is a frill, or a flower, etc very obvious on their clothes but it doesn't matter

Hey ! I too am a mother of fraternal twins....and guess what ....I too get to hear same things from people all the time :)....I am an Indian...and here twins are not a very common sight....It really pisses me off when people say the same discouraging words - * I'd Kill myself if I had twins* or *you have double trouble *....well how would they know that we as *mothers of twins* are lucky coz the love and joy are compounded. Double hugs, double kisses, mommy-in-the-middle "sandwich" cuddles on the couch... life just doesn't get any better than that. :)

Mine are 7 months B/B i get "oh my goodness you are brave" (when i take them out by myself) I REALLY want to reply "No its called parenting" One person asked my mom while she was babysitting "where did they come from" weird way of asking are they yours...

yeh i get all that all the time i have identical boys 2 years old my answers are
are they twins? no they were born 2 mins appart. (trust me it confuses enough u can get away ) or the othe 1 is no triplets *look down* oh bugger left him at home again (quick gettaway) loool
are they identical? no your halucinating theres only 1 there.
boy and girl? yeah but i wanted 2 boys
double trouble? no twice as nice
oh i dont no how u mannage i can barely cope with 1? its easy i just lock em in the cupboard if you sound proof it 1st it deadens the noise!
if you do use any of these i hope they work 4 ya i no they do 4 me lol
2 to wash, 2to clean, 2 to dress, 2 to scream 2 to annoy and 2 to muddle but best of all theres 2 to cuddle :D :D

I have fraternal B/G twins and people ALWAYS comment! "Oh are they identical" (ummmm no that ones a girl??) Are they both yours??? (Really?) "Oh he looks bigger he must be months older" ( how would that be possible??) "You must be exhausted!" (Only from listening to your comments) I think the problem is that a lot of people don't think before they speak or listen to how they sound when they ask ridiculos questions.

My all time favorite. When my youngest ( now almost four and a half months) was just a little over a month old we had all three in the stroller, him in his infant car seat. I was waiting with the kids while my husband paid for groceries someone asked " So which one are twins?"

I am only pregnant with twins but I get the comments about how people would never wish twins on their worst enemy (really, 'cuz it's not like they come with the plague or something!) and what kind of fertility treatment was I on...the good old fashioned way worked well enough for me thanks! How are your ovaries functioning btw?
As for asking the sexes, that's not just twins...that's ANY baby single, double, triple etc etc. I could have tattoed the words "I AM A BABY GIRL!" on my daughter's forehead while wearing a tiara, pink dress and false lashes and people would have asked if she was a boy!

Same questions but these are my replies... I have boys almost 23 months....

1. Are they twins.... No the one was born 21:58 and the other 21:59.
2. Is it a boy and a girl... Yes I so badly wanted two boys so I am dressing the one up to look like a boy...
3. How do you cope? I dont, but the anti depressents and calming tablets helps....
4. Terrible twos on the way? No terrible 4's!

My husband hates when people ask "are they twins" ..he politely and says in a joke "no..they were just born on the same day"..LOL.. I hate hate the "boy you got your hands full" "double trouble" and "i would kill myself if I had twins"... I know most people don't mean anything when they say it, it just annoys me.. I will save the best the last..........."Were they conceived naturally or with fertility medication?" That one really pisses me off..How dare someone ask u that? 1. double trouble - the girls get upset by this, and think they are bieng told off

My fraternal twin girls are now 22, but I remember very clearly the stupid things people would say. My best comeback line for the "I;d kill myself if I had twins" remark, was "we're all happy you don't have twins, if that's how you feel about children", that shut people up pretty fast!

Yeah, though it's gotten better as my twin boys have gotten older (they're 4 now).

I don't mind the "Are they twins?", especially as they've gotten older because sometimes it's so hard to tell. One has blonde hair while the other has darker hair, one's taller than the other one, they just look so different!

The thing that I despise are the looks of disgust or saying that they'd kill themselves if they had twins (Wow, thanks). When my boys were babies, we were at Target. This woman walks by and asks "Are they twins?" and we proudly say "Yes!" and she says "Ewww, no thanks". I said to her "That was very rude!" as she walked away. I had a neighbor tell me that she'd kill herself if she had twins and I told her that was a terrible thing to say. She finally quit saying it.

All the time! I have 14 month girl identical twins. I get the "are they twins" all the time
and in my case they always ask if they are boys or a boy and a girl, and both are dressed in pink or purple.
And another one I get is "you sure have your hands full".
I just smile and nod. Not a lot else you can do.
