"Thank you Captain Obvious.", "Better me than you.", "Really?" I get it all the time still! We have 4 year old twins, one who is being looked at for Asperger's and we also have a 2 year old who has a genetic syndrome and PDD_NOS.

I walked into a little Chinese restaurant with both sets of twins and a woman told me good luck! I just smiled at her and went to our table.By the end of the dinner and as we were leaving the waiters, hostess, and other patrons told me what wonderful children I have and aren't they so well-behaved! What can I say, we can't eat at a place with a play area all the time! Also, the older twins were nine at the time and the younger set are four almost five.

I was grocery shopping with the kids. I put soe beer into my cart and a gentlemen said to me jokingly, "Drinking that leads to those." I responded with laughter, "Having those leads to drinking that!"

You have to keep your sense of humor!

I got told that EVERY DAY that I go out with them. I love these set of questions I get too: Are they twins? Are they boys (mind you I have PINK bundlemes for the stroller)? Why are they so different? Why is one fatter than the other? WHere is the father (as I am a single mom)?

I have grown tired of the questions. i have started answering them with very sarcastic answers such as; They look so different because they have two fathers! I love the reaction!

What's with all the sarcasm and rudeness? People are just genuinely interested in twins, and are eager to find out more & ask questions. We've all been blessed with these little miracles - let's share some of our joy around!

yep! (with a smile and keep walking.)

it's best not to let these folks bother you. be polite, but carry on with your day. I'm about to have my 4th (twins and two singletons), so I'm expecting lots of these comments in the near future. :)

Same here. Twins are a blessing and I wouldn't swap or change them for anything. This includes the pregnancy which was horrible. I really want to have twins again if I am blessed enough.

OMG that comment sooooo drives me insane, i only just had a conversation with my husband about this ! When people say it to me i always say " oh not at all they are very good and i also have 2 more at home " I usually just walk away loking rather smug at that point . I cant understand it , its almost like people are having pity in a kind of mean way on u but for us we embraced the whole twin thing and feel so fortunate to have them and i hate feeling like i have to jusify this at times, you know what i mean !

I have 2 1/2 yr. old triplets, and I get this all the time!! I usually say "Better full than empty!" It usually makes them think about what they said.

I hate when they ask me "are they twins?" I want to say no their triplets the other ones in the car. People ask the craziest questions. Most of the time I ack like i can't hear I got my hands full.

[deleted account]

I am at the point with that comment that I just laugh and say these are just two of them, the other 3 are at home.

i hear that alot... i thought it was because our twins are 9 yrs old that we are adopting but maybe they just meant that its two and not just one child at the age they are.

I'm glad to hear other people who get as annoyed as me at these comments!!! My most irritating ones are 'Double trouble?'. How do you manage?' 'Which one is older / came out first (what posesses people to ask this from complete strangers, and how could it matter which one is 5 minutes older???)?. They are all missing out though, because our 3 1/2 year old twins are great fun and i wouldn't change it for the world!!!

People are fascinated by multiples, and can't help but comment on them. My husband was out shopping with my twins and was told by an old lady that he was so brave being out all alone with them. I have also had people say well done to me and stuff like that and I don't know how you cope. I live in an area where the majority of people are elderly and they always come up to me if I am on my own with the twins. Once we had a lday follow us round a supermarket because she wanted to look at them. The best retort that I have heard to the question 'are they twins' is ' no they are triplets but I leave the ugly one at home'

I have boy/girl twins. One is blue eyed and light hair and the other brown eyed with dark hair and have been asked..."Are they identical?" WHAT? Are you blind? is what I want to say, but I am polite and say no.

It is hard to go anywhere with the twins...especially when they were much younger. Everyone stops you and tells you their twin stories; they were a twin, know twins. Ask if you aren't glad you aren't the Octomom...

My first thought is not printable when people say stupid things like that. I have come to the conclusion that most mean well. They just don't know how to start the conversation without sounding like an idiot.

I smile. I've said "Yes, and a lot of love." The worst comments are "Better you than me" and of course I agree...YES, better me than you.

my reply was always double trouble but triple the blessing you will never see a single hug her twin sister. I wish I had a penny for every time some said are they twins as I would be a very rich parent and my Girls would be going to what ever college they wanted. It is hard to tell you what to say to the silly person who says what beautiful boys you have when they are dressed in pink ruffle dress with white lace trim and white ruffle butt tight. Mine are 26 now and I still get asked are they twins when they see their pictures.

I have 5 kids under 5(two sets of twins) so I hear some version of this everywhere we go. It does not bother me at all. I am sure if I saw a mother of 10 I would think "she has her hands full" also. There is no need to answer back with a rude comment. Just smile and move on. I will say that most people tell me how blessed/lucky I am.

I get the "you got your hands full" statement all the time too. My twin boys just turned 1 and I have a daughter 12 and a son 11. I just say "that's the way I like it". I also hear "are they twins" alot. My husband's favorite response is " No = we had one and really liked him so we made a photo copy!" It usually makes them feel pretty stupid - which is the point! lol

i get that identical question too and i have boy/girl twins! i also get that..."i'm a twin too". ok but are you a twin mom????? a bit different! and how about the "how do you do it?" well gee...cuz they're my kids! i'll never forget when i was like 7 or 8 months pregnant ..comments i would get from strangers.."ya know there's protection for that" or "HOW MANY are you having". OMG!!! people sure are bold

i do get frustrated with that but realize the people are not meaning to be rude. i think how much it frustrates me is how frustrated i am at the time. :D what ticks me off more is when they say it seeing one run the opposite way and not help you by stopping that one until you can get there!! happened once then invested in those darn leashes! my response would depend on my mood at the time..." gee ya think" or "it's all good" or "God doesn't give us more than we can handle" or just smile :D

The other thing that bothers me is the comments made about their size - they are small for their age and people would make comments about how small they are. One is a little taller and heavier and people will make comments about the difference - WHY? would a grown adult think that is okay????

I used to hate the comments that were negative - "Oh my you must be exhausted," "I'm so sorry for you," "I guess you are done because you have two," "you poor thing," and so many more. My twins were very easy as babies and were very little trouble. Now that they are 10 and apparently have sworn to hate each other - life is much more difficult.

I've told people that I'd rather be busy than bored, and that "Idle hands are the devil's playthings". I get this comment a lot, especially with my twins being just over a year and being very noticably pregnant again! Makes me crazy sometimes!

What drives me crazy is "How do you do it?"
Ummmm..... What choice do I have? What kind of a question is that anyway?

[deleted account]

As babies I would agree and ask for help - if I needed it. Now that my twins understand what people say, I just turn it into a positive...."Good thing I've got great kids that make it easy!" or "I wouldn't have it any other way." "Not anymore than anyone else with kids." It's the negativity of the comment that annoys me (other than hearing it all the time).

I hear that alot, even now that the boys are older. I have 5 boys 14, 13,13,11 and 7. I usually consider who it is coming from. If its older folks, I figure that they are just looking to talk a moment ( and they tell me a bit about thier children and their eyes really light up!) Other people I just "Yes, but I like the craziness. Keeps me busy and we enjoy it."

I usually humour people with a "yes" , but the best comment i heard when my boy/girl twins were young , ( and we got lots of comments living in a small town..) was "you must have done it twice on one night to get two babies!" , OMG! and yes it was from a man...also the "are they identical?" question , (boy/girl people!) but on the whole i enjoyed answeringpeoples questions as often they were the only people i had spoken too for the entire day! anything for a chat!

Many times these comments come from the older folks. Your children may well be the only joy they see that day . Enjoy the comments ! They are only trying to be nice and friendly ! You might be the only people they talk to that day, and if that encounter brings joy to them,,,,,, then go with it .

As a mom 0f 9, twins in the middle, I got the LOOK all the time ! I was always asked, "Are they all yours " and "do they all have the same Dad". JUST LOOK at all of them ! They all look ALIKE !!!!!
