HI there I am 30 weeks pregnant with identical boys I was wondering about the weights of them. I am not "overly huge" and have only put on 20 or so pounds. I am curious to know about other identical twins birth weights. I am having a c-section Mar 3rd. Any advice or info would be apperciated. Thanks :)

I have 6 children, 4 of which being 2 sets of identical twin boys! With my first set I gained around 30 pounds and they were born at 36 weeks and 5 days on April 26th 2003, Luke was born first at 5:48am weighing 5lb 3oz and Finley was born 3 minutes later at 5:51am weighing 4lb 8oz. They were both kept in the NICU for observation just to make sure they were feeding okay and that they had no complications from the birth but luckily they were very healthy little lads and were allowed home after 3 days. Now they're 10 years old, Finley is now about an inch taller than Luke but they both weigh around the same. Although they look similar, they have different personalities with Luke being very loud and confident and Fin being a little more shy and reserved. With my second set I gained around 35 pounds and they were born at 37 weeks and 3 days on October 18th 2008, Callum was born first at 3:36am weighing 5lb 6oz and Zack was born 7 minutes later at 3:43am weighing 5lb 11oz. Both weighing a good few ounces more than Luke and Fin, they were kept in NICU for just 24 hours before being allowed home. They are now big bouncing 4 year olds and again have very different personalities and apart from Callum recently being diagnosed with very mild asthma, both are extremely healthy. I feel very blessed to have had not just one set of twins, but two very healthy and happy sets of twin boys, god bless. x

My identical twins are now 3. When they were born at 38 weeks one was 6'11 and the other 7'2. They are still very close in weight to this day.

Believe me that identical boys can be so different. Mike and Joe are night and day. Even their need for braces is different. I love the fact that they have their own personalities and that they are so different.

Well I should have posted earlier (like 10 months earlier) but have been busy ;) The boys were born @ 34 weeks via emergency c-section I developed pre-eclempsia and was in danger of having seziures. Alex was 4lbs 14 oz and Brandon 5 lbs 7oz. They spent 3 weeks in the NICU. They look very similar but are totally different babies! Unbeleiveable that 2 human being with the exact same DNA can be that different. The past ten months have been interesting to say the least. But they are healthy and thats the main thing. Their 8 month neonatal follow up appointment was great they have them charted at 10 month old level which is great for preemies!

Hi i have 10 month old identical boys. I was induced at 35 weeks as my 1st born Kieran wasnt really growing the specialist wasnt overly worried but said they were better of out so they could grow as theres not alot of room for two in there i wasnt overly big but dont carry big anyway but usuly have quite big babys other than the twins. I gave birth naturally with no problems and no drugs and they were born 9 minutes apart Kieran was 4lbs 50zs and Daniel (who ended up bein born feet 1st after turning when Kieran came out lol he was no worse for wear) weighed 5lbs 3ozs. They spend 24hours in NNU monitering their temp and blood sugars but otherwise they were perfectly healthy. They were topped up via a feeding tube by formula while my milk was established then topped up with breastmilk just to keep up their blood sugar levels and energy. They are still small but happy and healthy. They slept side by side till 6 months then i changed them to top n tail they seem fine dont disturb each other at all. They have diffrent personalities and seem to do things 1 after the other ie crawling etc and seem to be doing things quite quickly considering i got told coz they were prem theyd be slower i dont think so. Enjoy your twins they grow really fast im sure faster than a single baby i have 3 other children. Good luck!!!

My identical twin boys were born by natural delivery at 37 weeks weighing 6 lbs. 4oz and 7 lbs. 4 oz.   - so they were big for twins & for being 3 weeks early.  But, I gained 75 lbs. They say babies gain their most weight in the last trimester especially last month.  So, if you can hold off delivery another couple of weeks, would help greatly.

I have 4 yr old boys. I gained quite a bit of weight while pregnant. The Dr. stopped weighing me near the end. Their birth weight was 7lbs 10oz and 7lbs 7oz. I had a section the first day of my 37 week of pregnancy. They were and still are big healthy boys.  I have to admit the last month of the pregnancy was very difficult. I couldn't walk very well...lol, but I had a very normal pregnancy.

I have identical twin boys that are going to turn eight years old next month. I carried them 40 weeks and they were born vaginally weighing 6.5 and 6.7. We were in the hospital three days.

Be sure to take notice of their movement and call your OB if you have any concerns in the weeks closer to your due date. Eat lots of protein -- peanut butter and chicken were good sources for me. Make sure to take your prenatal vitamins as well. Your OB will know what's best for you and your body. Best of luck to you! :)

I gained 45lbs!  My identical boy twins were born at 36w6d naturally, weighing in at 5.1 and 3.7.  There was a lot of concern that baby B was smaller so I went in for twice weekly NST's and also had unltrasounds every 2 weeks until they were born.  Don't be nervous...NST's are no big deal and are typically ordered with twins anyways.  They were going to induce me at 37 weeks so I went to Acupuncture to avoid a chemical induction.  I went into labor on the exact day he told me that I would.  I really believe that the fact that I had no drugs - induction or anesthethic - is what helped my boys do so well after birth (8 and 9 APGARs 1 minute after birth).  The bigger baby went home with me and the smaller one stayed for about a week.

My boys were induced at 37 weeks and were 6 pounds 7 oz and 7 lbs. 2 oz. I did gain almost 50 lbs during my pregnancy. Today they are almost 10 and stiull weigh within a pound of each other. I am alway amazed how identical twins can be so different. It is truly a great thing.

I have 10 month old twins, a bou and a girl. They were born at 34 weeks, girl weighed 4lbs 5oz and the boy was 4 lbs and 4 oz. by c-secton. They were as healthy as could be and came home 5 days later with me! I really didn't gain very much either. As for the c-secton it was not that big of a deal. I was able to do everything for them as soon as we came home. Well good luck!

I have identical twin boys as well.  They were born October of 2006.  I only gained 20 pounds as well.  The doctor told me it was because the babies were gaining the weight.  I lost it all at birth.

Anyways, Ryan was 6 pounds 11 ounces & Brandon was 7 pounds 2 oz.  They are still very close in weight.  Couple ounce difference.

My birth was natural with both.  40 minutes apart............huh  so you are lucky i think with the csection.  My boys were born at 38 1/2 weeks.  I asked to be induced:)

Recommendations: 1. join a twins club group, i did and the support was awesome:), 2. i would make sure right off the bat they are on the same feeding and nap schedules.  3. we did bassinets and separated the boys.  They did fine as they were in different beds in the hospital.  I know other people that used cribs right away.

If you need anything, please let me know.

I also have identical twin boys that were born at 33 weeks.  They shared the placenta, so by 33 weeks baby B had stopped growing.  They were only 5lbs 1oz(baby A) and 2lbs 12oz(baby B).  So, I can't imagine your twins are very big at 30 weeks.  I think it is the last couple of weeks when the babies can put on like a pound each week.  Needless to say, my boys were in the NICU for some time (17days--A and 35 days--B), but overall are now very healthy and thriving.  My only difference is that I was a HOUSE!!  I gained almost 60lbs!!

I put on about 35 lbs with my identical twins.  That weight was all in my stomach and the night they were born I lost 30 lbs!  They were born naturally at 39 weeks and 1 day.  Only 6 days early.  I really focused alot on nutrition and was eating protien shakes alot.  I ate like 6 little meals all through the day.  The protien shakes were made of bananas, nuts, rice protien, yogurt, juice and frozen fruit.  I also ate alot of green leafy veggies and whole grains.  My identical mirror image boys were 5 lb 14 oz each and 19 inches long each.  The last 10 weeks are important for weight gain.  This is when they gain the most weight.  Drink alot of water and eat even when you don't feel that hungry.  You are doing great!  Aloha

Mine are not identical, I have a boy and girl, but had the same type of concerns involvong weight. I was not large, from the back I didn't look pregnant,  and wondered if this was normal. I learned that unless the drs said so I need not worry and sure enough I had 2 healthy babies 4lb 7oz boy & 4lb 1oz girl at 34 wks & 4days. My babies were in the hospital for 2wks due to jaundice and other minor things, but overall were and are very healthy. For now I say relax, you must be at the point where you practically live in the drs office. If something were not right, they'd tell you.

My identical twin boys are now 5 months and i had the same issues. In total i think i only gained not even 30 pounds and was not big for a twin pregnancy. At 30 weeks they stopped growing and i really got concerned. I had to go in for fetal assessments every week and they were going to do an amniocentesis if the boys continued to stop growing to see if theyre lung maturity was enough to be delivered. Then in the next 2 weeks they started to gain weight again and at 36wks and 2d i was induced and able to deliver them vaginally (in the or and with lots of help and anesthesia). My twins weighed 4.7lbs and 5.2lbs. Although they were healthy they had to stay in the NICU for almost 2 weeks due to feeding issues.

HOpe this is of any help and I wish you all the best of luck.

God bless.
